Youth Work Matters 2018

Victoria should be a place where all young people feel they belong. Every young Victorian deserves to enjoy good health, education, the opportunity to work and the chance to connect with culture, family and friends.
Increasing the number of youth workers supports more young people in more communities, building stronger, safer, more supportive neighbourhoods. That’s great news for all Victorians.
By helping young people stay in education, find work and lead healthy lives, youth workers help reduce public spending on policing, welfare or crisis support services.
All Victorian communities deserve more youth workers.
We’ll achieve this with:
A plan to put youth workers where they’re most needed: a state-wide youth work strategy so every young person can access the right support, whether they live in rural, regional or metropolitan Victoria.
A new initiative to recruit, train and employ youth workers from diverse communities, focused on those where young people experience high levels of disadvantage, exclusion or crime.
More youth workers employed to help address our state’s priority issues, such as employment, mental health, youth justice and education.
