Classic 1970s car chase. Hawaii 5 - O, one of the best action series on TV. Unmatched performance of an Honest Police officer portrayed by Jack Lord. Film makers may re-make the series in present time but the professional standards of those artists in the classic original series is very difficult to beat.
I wrote these lyrics when I watched my favorite show, while I was in high school, and years afterward. Jack Lord was the BEST. He was the reason I watched the series.
Hawaii 1.) Mystic land of Hawaii Mystic land of Hawaii Blue seas in Hawaii Blue skies above Land where all your sorrows and fears disappear throughout the years in Hawaii, magic land of love, of love.
2.) Wind sings of Hawaii Happiness of love Wind sings of Hawaii Blue skies above Wind that is so soft and sweet Now you get the chance to meet in Hawaii, Hawaii’s song 3.) If you and a friend now get an early start then come to Hawaii land with a heart You’ll find you’re loved here all along You’ll be singing this magic song in Hawaii, Hawaii Five-O, Hawaii Five-O.
The best detective programme ever and no reboot can match, Jack and the cast members were perfect for it, the acting was better, and we didn't half of Honolulu killed of in the process as well as all the damage the high powered weapons did and what they used would have cut someone in half judging by the little I did see. Five 0 lives on with us truly loyal fans, and Jack lord with never be forgotten. I have posted a tribute vid for his 24th Anniversary. titled Jack's 24th anniversary of his death.
Apparently Jack Lord loved Mercury's. He used the same '68 Park Lane for many seasons (six, I think). As I recall, Ford Motor Company gave cars of all types to the show, even if they occasionally exploded.
Yet the Mercury crest is concealed in the closeups of the wheels! Talk about no respect! The production company gets all these complimentary cars, but the logo gets covered up!
As badly as that old Merc leaned, it probably has the heaviest-duty suspension L-M offered. Most likely the highest-capacity towing package since they didn't offer an actual police package on the Marquis.
This was all filmed right near the soundstage / studio that "Five-O" used in real life, and at speeds considerably slower that than the 50-60 miles per hour that was shown on the speedometer several times.
Look at that body roil and the squeal of those bias ply tires LOL LOL. and they covered he Mercury insignia's on the wheel covers with some orange type tape.
Haha, yes, those wheelcovers looked so fake. Almost as if done in the studio with models. Considering how Ford supplied cars to the show, and was essentially product placement, they were not getting their money's worth!
Lol..McGarrett's 68 made a cameo right before they took out the villian's car. Somewhere in the first or second season on DVD I actually saw them switch between 4-door and 2-door 68's with alternating black and red interiors. My favorite show though. God bless Jack Lord.
Those barges just did not handle...CONSUMER REPORTS tested a similar Mercury, and showed how the body leaned so much during turns like those, the edge of the fender gouged the sidewall of the front tire.
i guess they didn't have shoulder belts back then, LOL. FYI, the areas filmed on Diamond Head are still the same -- undeveloped after all these years. Because that area is owned by the military/government. The old bunkers where the car hid are still there. The only area that is different is the final scene where the car flips over, it is now paved with parking spots and is a visitor lookout point.
At 2:44, the parked white car blocks the camera's view of the ramp that the blue car uses to execute the stunt. This must be where "CHiPs" got the idea for their vehicle stunts.
I guess that was an early version of the pit maneuver. What happened to Steve's classic blue suit? Here he looks like the guy behind the counter at Avis Car Rental.
In this episode McGarret got shot in the arm and his coat was bloody so Danno brought him a spare red jacket to wear in the interim. And why he is being chauffered by the female officer. Its a good episode, especially with that officer giving him a piece of her mind.
Needed an old 5gal. COKE syrup canister pressurized but filled w/ old engine oil. Shortly B4 turning N2 a sharp curve Dispense the oil. Car following cannot help but lose control as it cannot negotiate curve w/out skidding out of control. Did this in days B4 radial tires. Spray attachments located immediately in front of rear bumper If you wanted to get fancy. Triggering device was handle from a canister fire extinguisher one sees in hotel hallways. The mid-'70's was the time of... innovation for my 10th grade bored mind. Guess I watched Agent 007 too many times!
When I was teenager, for some reason which I can’t remember (perhaps I deserved it) a man chased after me in his car. I drove let a bat out of hell on non- highway roads. I drove to our local police station (perhaps 5 miles) and the “bad man “ couldn’t catch me 😅
No, they didn't. They were heavy with mushy suspensions. They were for good cruising for long distance at high speed. Poor braking. Slow to accelerate. Sluggish to turn.
Although these large land barges didn't handle well, these units were probably equipped with police duty brakes, tires, steering and suspension. Most likely, these vehicles were equipped with Goodyear Blue Streak tires designed for high speed driving. I worked on few Ford's during the '70's, and those vehicles were world's apart from the usual Ford's and Mercury's sold at the consumer level.
If I was the governor of the Aloha State I'd be telling Steve-o that he's paying for the next set of tires! Or else just take away that Park Lane and give him a six cylinder Falcon !
The ultimate indignity for those hoodlums... having to walk back to their boss for all those miles. Maybe they would be wise to not show up at his door...
Note the basic 5-0 car scene guidelines: 1. Use hardtops if possible with all windows down for great visibility of characters. (Too bad they forgot the right-rear in the 74 Marquis) 2. Always chirp the tires at every start/stop. 3. Doors open before the car stops moving and usually slammed with authority. 3. Even though they used recycled cheater shots, with significant continuity issues, interior ones were done on location with real driven vehicles - and not on a trailer. Compare those to the in-studio babies of the remake and other modern shows.
The producers made a mistake in not having Amanda McBroom in more episodes as a recurring character and maybe making the Five-O team after Chin Ho and Danny left the show. Would love one of those black Mercury Marquis. Since I'm retired and don't drive more than 6000 miles a year the 10 miles per gallon wouldn't bother me that much. TV writers don't write great dialogue anymore such as in these scenes.
Did anybody notice at 1:29 Steve McGarrett tells Officer Sandra Wells "Not bad" for driving that car? The minimun that he could have told her is "Excellent job, Officer Wells." Please refrain from posting any rude or vulgar comments or remarks over here. Apr 18, 2020 @ 11:35 pm

Jack lord would be 100 in 2022
Love those old boats, like my great uncles Lincoln Mark 5, pure luggery
im just looking at those BIG LAND barges trying to make sharp turns and go fast. pushing 60 uphill! wow
Amanda Mc Broom ( Officer Sandi Wells) composed the song "THE ROSE " ( from the same named movie) for Bette Midler circa 1980.
Oh yeah....classic 70's cop show car chase....bad guys roll their car and get out without a scratch....just a little dirt on the face! LOVE IT!!!!!
460 turning a C6 transmission. Best power team Ford ever had.

"Loose Ends Get Hit," from the 8th season. Amanda McBroom (Officer Sandi Wells) would appear in three more episodes the following season.
Apparently Jack Lord loved Mercury's. He used the same '68 Park Lane for many seasons (six, I think). As I recall, Ford Motor Company gave cars of all types to the show, even if they occasionally exploded.

it was three cars, just read an article about them and what happened to the last one he gave to John Nordlam.
As badly as that old Merc leaned, it probably has the heaviest-duty suspension L-M offered. Most likely the highest-capacity towing package since they didn't offer an actual police package on the Marquis.
The old & beautiful times. And of course the nice Mercury! :-)
Nothing like driving your living room down the road, couch and all....
love jack lord

Haha, yes, those wheelcovers looked so fake. Almost as if done in the studio with models. Considering how Ford supplied cars to the show, and was essentially product placement, they were not getting their money's worth!
@@manofthehour6856 Looked more like a Lincoln wheel cover.
1:43 Mounting that curb looked painful.
2:50 Damn, Concierge back in the 70s really took their jobs seriously.
Interesting, I noticed 3 black Mercurys used here: a 74 Marquis, a 72 Marquis, and a 68 Park Lane.
Me too. The editing guys must not be car guys. This happened a lot in this show (and other TV show chase scenes).
Lol..McGarrett's 68 made a cameo right before they took out the villian's car. Somewhere in the first or second season on DVD I actually saw them switch between 4-door and 2-door 68's with alternating black and red interiors. My favorite show though. God bless Jack Lord.
@@Cynastriene the 2 door with red interior is a 67,,not 68
Technically, there are even more cars in the shoot here. The dash shots are from a 70s Lincoln Continental.
@@merc-ni7hytrue, and it’s a Marquis, not a Park Lane.
That female cop was so adorable. I would prefer a 1965 Mercury Comet. A lotta nice Mercury,s.
The cars of the past, they had heart, and gives off a charm the newer cars lack.
(Muscle power and not fuel injection)
Love it, no suspension, land yachts
Those barges just did not handle...CONSUMER REPORTS tested a similar Mercury, and showed how the body leaned so much during turns like those, the edge of the fender gouged the sidewall of the front tire.
They were fine for gliding over open roads at high speeds, but only in a straight line.
@CF William Except for that, they gave it the highest rating of seven full-sized cars they tested.
@CF William I wouldn't autocross a Marquis...but if I have to make an emergency maneuver, I don't want to have to deal with something like that.
1:04, they edited the scene right before it got too embarrassing 🤣
i guess they didn't have shoulder belts back then, LOL.
The '68 Mercury Park Lane that McGarrett rode in didn't have shoulder belts. They weren't required until '69.
A couple of sub compacts of that time.
1:00 she was understeering like crazy.
The car was, clearly, though she needed to push the car to get ahead in the car chase.
At 2:44, the parked white car blocks the camera's view of the ramp that the blue car uses to execute the stunt. This must be where "CHiPs" got the idea for their vehicle stunts.
Also, McGarret and Wells nearly get a civilian bystander killed when they force the two hit men off the road. Not very professional police work.
@John: I imagine he had just set up the ramp in time for that sequence to play out as it did.
didnt even lose a hubcap and those bologna skins held up good too
HAHAHA!!! Bologna! Che Fong's boys in the lab must have been sloppy with their work and left their lunch on McGarrett's car without cleaning up!
good editing.
Really?
I've never seen her before.
thanks you watching this.
I guess that was an early version of the pit maneuver. What happened to Steve's classic blue suit? Here he looks like the guy behind the counter at Avis Car Rental.

Those cruise liners handled pretty well back in the early 70's.
No, they didn't. They were heavy with mushy suspensions. They were for good cruising for long distance at high speed. Poor braking. Slow to accelerate. Sluggish to turn.
If you are comparing cars from the 70s to the cars now, then you are comparing apples to oranges.
@@mr.commonense8177 They were boats back then, too. Comfy, heavy, clumsy, but good for a long trip.
At 2:44 you get a glimpse of the 68 Park lane. To me the car that defines Hawai'i 5-0

That should have been me driving Steve Mc Garrett's car .. I am sure that Jack Lord would have been
nervous during my driving skills too
Big square 70s MERCURYS as all car makes were BIG SQUARE BRICKS from 1971 tru 1978 then were downsized*
And no matter what speed you drove the hood was always in a different zipcode 🤣🤣🤣 on a serious note i would still drive one daily if I had one 🤙❤✌
