Ive often wondered the same thing. People think the military is "protecting" them? say what? America is in a unique position geographically that pretty much makes a land invasion impossible as we could see it coming from weeks away. TBH the military should go back to its actual job of defending the United States, not policing the world, and give 75% of its budget to NASA.
They dont need GoFundMe. USA should drastically cut military budget. Russia has great army with budget of "just" 70 billion. USA has budget of 680 billion for military. that is crazy money waste.
Its funny how this was released a few days before NASA announced returning to the moon and having people stay for longer periods of time by 2024. I hope they actually give us some kind of second space race to mars against SpaceX or even better if they somehow merge into one.
going to the moon and staying is actually one of the biggest steps for going to mars, as a start from the moon might not sound very useful, but it is, it makes it easier to escape the gravitational pull of the earth, thus wasting less fuel going for mars
I bet most of the time engineers spend at NASA is finding out ways to make their projects cheaper rather than actually coming up with new ideas, that would be kinda sad :/
Making cheaper rockets is the same thing as coming up with new ideas. It's like when you play ksp in career mode rather than sandbox, you would make more efficient, cheap rockets that get you farther than the less efficient rockets.
Super Drip just look it up, read some books about, there’s so much, a lot of it so complicated, that it’d be too much for me to type out, but it’s out there, and it’s revolutionary. Research it yourself.
I would LOVE to see NASA's budget tripled to nearly $60 Billion. $20 billion to maintain its current projects including the ISS, $20 Billion for Gateway and Moon missions(Constructing permanent bases), and $20 billion for Mars and Beyond.
I would prefer to see NASA begin to consistently bring in programs on time and on budget. Remember that a lot of space exploration was cancelled to pay for the cost over-runs on the JWST. And a true commitment from NASA to go to the moon by 2025 would help. It's hard to grab peoples imaginations with: "We'll go to Mars in the late 2030's - maybe."
Colin Campbell Yes. One of the main reasons we were able to build the technology from the ground up, land people on the moon, and send them home safely was because of time constraints.
@@colincampbell767Cost overruns and delays would be solved with an increased budget. Limited budgets mean NASA can't properly fund projects, which means delays in work. And delays in work mean more money spent.
Nasa should open something like "you donate... we show you how we work" I would easily pay 25-50$ monthly just to see what they're doing and working on.
who's trying to kill each other all the time? you people look pathetic with your virtue signaling and supposed better plan for humans, absolutely clueless and naive.
Ironically we aren't really trying to kill each other that much anymore. We live in the most peaceful times in the whole human history but at the same time we invest most money in military. Is the peace maintained by the military spending or we could just remove 50% of that and give it to NASA. Probably no one knows what is the right answer. All I know that space agencies need more funding and public perception must be changed to support space exploration. If people are sold on this, the money will start to come naturally.
It's because of jobs. If people didn't have to work money wouldn't be a problem. However you can't live off the backs of others. Hence why we have money. Money motivates people to do jobs. If you want to sit at home with WiFi someone has to work at the wifi place in case it malfunctions. But why can't they be at home too like you?. Money wouldn't be a problem if we had robots though. If robots did our jobs then we could all quit our jobs and money wouldn't be an issue. The world would continue to work the same way but instead of humans working we'd all be home chilling. Make NASA build robots

@@izaicslinux6961 I thought there would conflicts like that. It doesn't have to patreon. I just suggest something that is easy to use. It can be an organization associated with NASA, have a donation/patreon website so that people can give money each month (or similar) and then at the end of each month (or period) the money will be donated to them. I think the problem is Accessibility. If people could just as easily donate money for them and in return they could, for example, share their advancements every so often, just as positive feedback so people feel encouraged and happy to provide (thinking that they are contributing and feeling empowered, "I'm actually doing good for the world") would be very cool and I'm sure they will get a lot of support. But then, maybe very few people will help. Who knows. I just think that there may be a high possibility that things could end up helping them. Exactly! I constantly think about what earth would be like if we explored space more. Most likely a moon and/or a mars colony. Probably a Dyson swarm, giving us unforseen amount of energy, allowing potential deep space colonies, probably a quicker discovery of exotic matter, allowing us to bend space and time into wormhole, allowing cross galaxy movement. If we give more money to NASA we will end up with a galactic civilization. I care way to much about this.

@jake black well they currently have a plan in place called ARTEMIS that will, you know, establish a space station around the moon within the next ten years, no biggie. It will take around 6 to 8 billion dollars a year extra to reach this goal, compared to NASAS general budget of 20.6 billion.
@jake black I think you have an unrealistic grasp on humanities progress in the space age. This is no movie. Not everything is gonna be successful, we still barely know what we're doing. Look at how successful it was when they were backed with money, before their budget was dropped to nothing. They are the only organization to land a man on the moon. And it was done in only 1 decade! What you are stating is the equivalent of telling a student to write an essay with a broken pencil, in order for them to sharpen the pencil.
Competition can only take you so far, when it comes to research and space exploration, all of us need to work together and we will progress at an unreal speed

A charming reply, if there ever was one. You've made a few logical leaps, though. Let me clear things up for you, even though this is all public record anyway... We submitted our proposals and preliminary research (43 pages of detailed planning focused on development of neuromorphic processing models in high earth orbit), as well as our funding request for $125,000. In that request, every single line item has to be fully accounted for, including salaries. My salary, as project leader, is set at minimum wage. That's about $7,000 for six months of work. As the lowest paid member of the research team, I don't think that "lining my pockets" is the right term. More importantly, though, is the fact that we've simply made the proposal... hoping to get our shot. My team is eagerly awaiting NASA's decision. Four years ago, I ran a vegetable farm. Now, because of SBIR grants, we have the chance to change the world. What's so wrong with that? What do you have to gain by making these kinds of assumptions, anyway?
Hobbyists, eh? Very kind of you to evaluate a team of 17 developers so brazenly. You're obviously upset here, but I really don't understand why... aside from maybe being incredibly bitter. I didn't do anything but say that I was grateful about having a chance to do something awesome. Whatever your life is like that makes you so hostile is your problem, not mine. Funding innovation, technology commercialization, and public private partnerships is exactly how we made it to the moon. Countless other inventions have come as a result of NASA's efforts and this funding. Did you... even watch the video? You're using the internet right now. Chances are, there's a Qualcomm chip in your phone, which were partly funded by SBIR grants with your (puts on tinfoil hat) STOLEN MONEY. Innovation is worth investing in, and the ROI data is incredibly abundant.
@All Things Everything ah, I see your edit now. You think $125k is all we go through in 6 months? You should learn to code if you think that's a lot of money, it could change your life! With so many devs on my team, that amount of cash doesn't cover the whole project. Also, it costs the same amount to run an F35 for 3 hours. 6 months of our team's work for the same cost? That's a bargain. Because I run a private company, my job is to mitigate risk to my employees and shareholders while growing our capabilities and revenues. We don't have the resources to spend on developing a cubesat implementation of our current technology without a NASA grant. So if we want to do that, and we really do, we apply for a grant like 650 other companies do every Spring.

Is the peace maintained by the military spending or we could just remove 50% of that and give it to NASA. Probably no one knows what is the right answer. All I know that space agencies need more funding and public perception must be changed to support space exploration. If people are sold on this, the money will start to come naturally.
It is sad that our world is ruled by a piece of paper
It's because of jobs. If people didn't have to work money wouldn't be a problem. However you can't live off the backs of others. Hence why we have money. Money motivates people to do jobs.
I just hope donations like that won't affect their relationship with the government, making them think "you don't need tax money anymore with all those donations." @@LukaTomato ... by selling things to NASA.
You kinda need to actually consider this one a little more closely, because spacex runs for profit by giving people a service, a service that is mainly required by groups like, yup, NASA. it's really not funding in that sense.
@@LukaTomato NASA provided the seed money out of desperation - they were looking at the Space Shuttle retiring and had nothing that they could replace it with for at least another decade.
However - SpaceX is making money by providing services to their customers. NASA is merely one of those customers. NASA needs to get out of the earth-to-orbit business entirely - the SLS is already obsolete. In fact - NASA should focus solely on payloads and contract out the getting those payloads to their destination.
@@colincampbell767 Actually you'll find that most of their money still does come from NASA, and the military. Your average commercial payload contract is nowhere near enough to sustain and grow a company like SpaceX. Also NASA aren't building SLS, Boeing and a few others are. Oh, and SLS? Obsolete? LOL
@@LukaTomato Looking at the SpaceX launch manifest it appears than only about 1/3rd of SpaceX launches are NASA and the US military.
And yes, the SLS is obsolete. At $1 billion (not counting the payload) per mission the money can be far better spent on payloads and simply hire somebody to get them into orbit. $1 billion would only make sense if the spacecraft were reusable. We don't even have anything resembling a firm launch date for it's first mission. The taxpayer would be better off shutting down the SLS and invest the money into modular and reusable spaceship components that can be assembled in orbit. And simply pay somebody to get them there.

By your logic, we should halt all funding that isn’t deemed as “important” as cancer research.

It would take less than 5% of the defense budget to double NASAs budget.
@jake black well they currently have a plan in place called ARTEMIS that will, you know, establish a space station around the moon within the next ten years, no biggie. It will take around 6 to 8 billion dollars a year extra to reach this goal, compared to NASAS general budget of 20.6 billion.
@jake black the Artemis program is already going through Congress and NASA has already partnered up with 14 other private companies.
@jake black "it will be the same until Reforms are made"! Opposes budget reform. You realize that NASA is run by different people now right
@jake black I think you have an unrealistic grasp on humanities progress in the space age. This is no movie. Not everything is gonna be successful, we still barely know what we're doing. However, 20 billion dollars is literally NO money. Adjusting for inflation, the Apollo project would take 144 billion dollars today. No shit they cant do anything, they are being starved of funds. Look at how successful it was when they were backed with money, before their budget was dropped to nothing. They are the only organization to land a man on the moon. And it was done in only 1 decade! What you are stating is the equivalent of telling a student to write an essay with a broken pencil, in order for them to sharpen the pencil.

My company just submitted our first SBIR proposal to NASA. I'm extremely grateful for the public private partnership that allowed for that.
People were skeptical that my team might not be ready... but the heat shield on the Apollo command module was completed by a few women in a warehouse.
I for one am extremely grateful and excited to have the opportunity to be part of something so much bigger than one person, or one company.
Ian Gerard You guy hiring?
Does that concept just grind your gears or is it autonomous mapping in particular that's got you riled?
@@saultzwtheking1955 not at the moment, but we're growing fast right now so its hard to say what we'll be doing in a few months. Pm me a link to a resume if you want, I'm happy to take a look.
