    It concerns me that unless all religions together stand to defend religious freedom we could fall to the powers that want to remove it. May God bless each faith to stand tall and firm in this priceless right.

    I'm grateful for President Oaks addressing this Important Message on Religious Liberty as provided by the United States Constitution!
    🕊❤📜🖋🦅
    The beginning was a little hard to hear with the mic adjustments, so here's some of President Oak's words that stood out to me:
    Two decades ago, a report of the American Textbook Council observed:
    "The Strength of Religion in shaping human thought and action is not often explained. And its role as a motivating agent in Culture, Politics, and Ethics often remains under examined.
    Observer wrote that:
    'School Textbooks create the impression that Religion and Faith have little to do with the Development of the U.S. History.' "
    Even with the adjustment to the microphone, President Oaks continues:
    "What are the Religious Freedoms or Liberties that concern us? For Faith Communities, The United States Constitution Guarantees Freedom of Association, and the Right to Assemble.
    The Right to Determine New Members.
    The Right to select leaders and important employees- Including in Related to Organizations. And the Right to Function as an Organization.
    For Individual Believers, Essencial Rights Include: Religious Expression & Exercise. And Freedom from Religious Discrimination.
    In Defence of these Rights, We should be United!"
    Last year at this symposium, Elder Quintin L. Cook gave this Apostolic Challenge:
    " Catholics, Evangelicals, Jews, Mormons/Latter-day Saints and other Faiths, must be part of the Coalition of Faiths that Succor, and Act as a Sanctuary and Promulgate Religious Freedom, across the World!"

    It deserves so much more approval than simply my two 'thumbs up'.

    If we promote religious freedom we aren't forcing someone to adhere to our beliefs, but rather we are able to show people around the world by our Christlike examples, and at times with words, that we are all God's children, who are greatly valued, and loved by him! Because of us being God's offspring, and spiritual brothers and sisters, we should love God and each other. Even those who don't believe in God can benefit from religious freedom. For example if we just practice the teachings to love our enemies, praying for them, and doing good to them, which is one of Christ's fundamental teachings, people of all faiths, as well as those who don't believe in God, can benefit. That's just one example of many.
    Just think of how much kinder, loving, and non judgemental the world can be if we love those who love us, but especially our enemies!

    Religious liberty fine but not at the expense of personal liberty!

    • @gettopreacherman
      @gettopreacherman 2 роки тому +9

      Ummmm religious liberty IS a personal liberty. Your comment appears to distill religion to institution; however the discussion of religious liberty is more about the practice of one's religion vs setting up an institution to exploit. 24:00 in you'll see where he addresses even that religious liberty cannot be "absolute", that there are cases to limit that liberty at times, albeit in extreme cases only.

      Personal liberty is brought about by Religious liberty. One cannot have one without the other....at least for very long. If Religious liberty dies, Personal liberty will surely follow.

    It is an intriguing dichotomy of Catholics and LDS(Brighamites). They both claim to be the One True Church founded by Jesus Christ, they both claim apostolic succession, and the Melkezidek Priesthood. Though the Roman Catholic Church claims that Christ is the last and current Prophet and there shall be none after him and he has revealed all we need to know concerning salvation. The Church also teaches that there is still revelation and visions though they are private and do not foretell the return of Christ or any new teachings. All has been revealed according to the Church concerning the salvation of men. This President, the head apostle holds the same position the Pope holds. He is simply the leader of the Apostles. The Pope is the Bishop of Rome, the same bishopric held by St. Peter, the traditional head of the original 12 Apostles. The Bishops in Catholicism are seen as successors to the Apostles and aren’t limited to 12, there’s thousands. The Diocesan priest is the equivalent to the LDS bishop. The Ward is the equivalent to the Catholic Parish, and a Stake is like a Catholic Dioceses.

    When we say religious liberty, we are mistaken to to think it means individual spiritual conscience. What it really means is the right of an organization to bulldoze over individual freedom.

    • @nathanbanks2935
      @nathanbanks2935 2 роки тому +1

      Hi James,
      Having religious freedom doesn't mean that we should be robbed of life, personally liberty, and the persuit of happiness by organizations. If an organization is taking away another person's or religion's right to worship, or not worship, that organization is actually depriving that person of their own religious freedom. Religious freedom is both personal freedom of conscience, and collective freedom to worship how, where, and what we may. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helps millions of people around the world with food, shelter, farming, proper medical Care, "yellow shirt angels," who have helped with natural disasters, education, job training, in addition to teaching Christ's teachings, etc.
      Having religious freedom also gives us the opportunity to teach the world about how we are all very much loved by God, and very important to him, how he has a plan for each of us, and how he wants each of us to have joy. We can have joy by choosing to show love for him, and for everyone else around us.
      Jesus taught:
      "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;"
      -Matthew 5:44
      Just think of the impact we could have on each other, and really on the world, if we all would apply just this one profound teaching that Christ taught! That is just one of many amazing teachings that Jesus Christ taught, that if followed, can eliminate hatred, which would eliminate war, and promote peace on earth.
      The now popular doctrine of coexisting together isn't nearly good enough. We should instead go out of our way to bless humanity, which is why religious freedom is so vitally important.
      I hope this helps clarify some misunderstanding.
      God bless you brother!

      You make a good point. I think if they were to call out everyone involved in corruption by naming them (indeed the list is so long) it would put a target on the backs of members. So they call out sin but leave the sinners to their own conscience. The corruption is vast in the world but their agency is important. Just my opinion. ❤
