Welcome to where I'm training for my PPL (never too late at 73!). I've been told that learning to land here means I should be able to land just about anywhere. For anyone else thinking of visiting this wonderful establishment, the power lines mean that 35 is not licensed for take-off and 17 is not licensed for landing. The scariest trees (for me anyway) are on the way in to 23. The trees on 35, and 05, are far enough away from the threshold to not be an issue on a nicely controlled approach. We usually fly the downwind leg between the A38 and the railway line to the east, which means base isn't as tight as yours was. Hope you come again sometime.

Hi Colin, thanks for watching and commenting. As you say - it is never too late to start flying, I keep my fingers crossed for you ;) Derby is quite specific place to fly to. I took off from RWY23. In case of aborted landing or engine failure after take off there would not be many options you could explore really. At the top of that there was no cafe (2021) 😅. It was nice to visit anyway.
