  • Taking a look at this affordable yet iconic fragrance from the the early 2000s.
    This fragrance is deep, rich, and dense with a variety of unique wood notes including sequoia and redwood. Coupled with warmth from a combination of nutmeg, cardamom, and mace, contrasted a bit of briskness from juniper and violet leaf, this high quality cheapie is great for the spring and autumn season. One of my favorites!

    Yeah man, I was VERY, VERY unpleasantly surprised about the new bottle presentation, dis NOT know it used to be an edt and it changed to an edp. Great review

    Reminds me of a store in the mountains from 70s .....that sold pottery and cedar boxes in the spring time with all that wet brightness as you said

    I just got it, and I must say, for my personal taste this is amazing. City’s, woody, slight green, dry but has some sweetness. Can be casual (but don’t dress bummy), and can be formal, perfect for spring, fall, and summer. It’s subdued but not weak at all. Quality is incredible.

    Lalique Equus and Lalique Pour Homme are both incredibly beautiful.
    Although they don't last on my skin the way they do on most people.
    Oh... Also, and not to nitpick, but "Equus" is pronounced 'Eck-Wuss'.
    Great review and description.
    Cheers!

    The horse head is definitely symbolic because I definitely get that horsy/ hay type of vibe. Great review

    Equus had instantly become my favourite fragrance when i first tested it. It was a challenge to find a bottle with a horse head imprinted in it, but i did find it in EDP version.
    As for the fragrance, it is warm, spicy and woody and really smells more expensive than it really costs. I also get prunes vibes when applying it on, this note, to my nose, kinda makes it sound more "solid" and noble.

      Noblie is a great adjective for this one! Should've used i tin the review! Also didn't know they were putting the EDP out in the embossed bottles! Glad you got yourself one!

      I have a vintage bottle of this to sell if anyone is interested. Eastern Canada. One with engraved glass

    Wrong mace, mate. The mace in the fragrance is another component of the nutmeg plant, with a similar scent profile. The "mace" you are referring to is completely unrelated - that's a branding term for the capsaicin/chemical distillation of chili peppers used in police work. Same word; VERY different scents.
    EDIT: liked the review, btw. The description of the "personas" that might suit the fragrance was a nice touch. Definitely agree wth that mold, pleasant barnyard effect.

      Appreciate pointing that out! I'll correct it moving forward! Was surprising though to hear as you mentioned does have quite a similar scent profile!

      @@tzfragrance no worries. :). To be clear: mace has a similar scent profile to nutmeg, not to chili/pepper spray. You can actually use mace somewhat interchangeably with nutmeg in cooking as well. It's a bit milder and less bitter than its cousin.

    Thanks very much for this review...The only one between the two that I see online reviews of is the lion head. Getting Equus edt as soon as I find it.

      My pleasure! And yeah would definitely say worth looking for the nicer bottle. I slightly prefer the juice in the EDT with its added colder feel but scent profile is almost identical and splitting hairs between the two. Appreciate you watching! Let me know how this one works for you!

    Basically it's less harsh version of Moschino Toy Boy / V&R Spicebomb. I know that both of them came out much later than Lalique, but they are hyped much more in the community, while Equus is kinda overshadowed by them.

    • @soakedbearrd
      @soakedbearrd 8 місяців тому

      I can see why people would say spicebomb, because it does has some pepper, but SB is heavy vanilla and this is more woody and drier. I love both, and they are different enough not to make it redundant.

    It has almost nothing in common with Bentley Absolute.

    • @tzfragrance
      @tzfragrance  Рік тому

      You’re right almost no overlapping notes! To my nose though they both give me a pencil shaving accord and slight sweetness! Overlapping woody, fresh spicy, and warm spicy too. Though the Bentley is much less aromatic and outdoorsy!

    It smells similar to Creed Bois Du Portugal.

      Sadly missed the boat on the Gucci Pour Hommes! All were discontinued before I got into the hobby but will try to hunt down some mini's or samples or full bottles if my bank account ever recoveres lol! And can get some more feedback from there!

    Great review Trevor. Only have the old version myself. Actually remember getting it around the same time as Lomani's Body and Soul, a wonderful sweet cheapie from back in the day that smells like a mix of Spicebomb and just a touch of Royal Oud. Quite a synthetic fragrance off the rip, but after so many years of settling, it's so much better now. The atomizer could be better though. One of the few fragrances that got me legit compliments when I was starting out. And there's a USA site still selling it for like $15 with only 1 left. 😄 Could be one of the last cheap bottles in North America. Another underappreciated frag gone before its time. 🪦

      Thanks Doni! And great feedback might try and see if I can't grab that Lomani. I don't have anything from the house yet, have been holding back on exploring them as they seemed somewhat of a clone house but I'll have to try and score that body and soul. A handful of fairly affordable under $40 available on ebay and some discounters yet! Thanks for the heads up on it!

      @@tzfragrance As far as I know, they sorta are a clone brand (at least now), and one of the first since the original cloned Drakkar Noir. Very few from the brand that I've tried, probably because they were never known for their quality, but AB Spirit Silver was the third ever Aventus clone from what I remember. Just after Insurrection Pure II and Fresco. They actually updated it with L'Aventurier. But their latest from what I've seen is a clone of Black Orchid. Just be careful with those curved bottles. They don't stand well and the atomizer is crap. 😆
