Thank You Sir. As a native Detroiter born in the late 50s and inheriting the Motown sound from my family hi fi stereo just brought fifty years of my life back into reflection. I so appreciate your life work.!!!

This music and this documentary will always stand the test of time. I grew up when Motown first started, and hit after hit just kept on coming. I thought that they’d never surpass the current song that was out at the time but they always did, one after the other. A true golden age of soul music. Thank you, Allan, for all of the hard work and extreme dedication you gave to this project, it will live forever. You’ve made everyone proud and I think that those great musicians finally got the recognition they so deserve. A million thanks to you, sir.

Thank you for what you did to make this project a success. I first saw the video on TV, I checked Amazon and purchased a DVD for less than $10.00, then to my surprise I found the DVD in the reduced price bin at Walmart. Whenever I find a DVD of Standing in the Shadows of Motown I buy a copy for a friend. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you did for the fellows and all the music lovers in the world. If they ever release it on Blu Ray, I’ll buy another copy.

I met Allen Slutsky in Philly in 1988 where I was playing a show with the pointer Sisters. He told me about the book he was writing about Jamerson, Told me he’d send me a copy when it’s ready, so I’m back home in LA and the book shows up in my mailbox, i gave Allen a call to thank him, and he spent a long time on the phone telling me stories about chasing down the various bass players, etc. I still have and use the book. It’s great! And I was able to obtain CDs to replace the cassettes the it cam with.

I grew up in Detroit's University District, a block south of 7 Mile Rd & 2 blocks east of Livenois. Within a mile or so many of the Motown stars lived. We seemed to know here they all lived & would pass by all the time hoping to see 1 of them. I don't know where any of the Funk Brothers lived but we heard about them. That was at the time they were recording on Grand Blvd & a couple other studios as well as playing at Jazz clubs around town. Baker's Keyboard Lounge is still a mile north on Livernois just south of 8 Mile Rd. Needless to say the movie "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" brought back memories of my childhood. I cry everytime I watch part of it.

One cannot put a price on the life lessons of this video. One cannot put a price on Alan Slutsky's experiences. If we humans understood what our real treasures are, Alan Slutsky is one of the richest humans on Earth.

Thank you for your work on Standing In The Shadows Of Motown. More importantly, thank you for helping debunk Carol Kaye's false claims of having played the original bass lines on the iconic hits with the Funk Brothers ɓack in Detroit.
Not only were they adjudicated false, but they set the record straight that the immortal James Jamerson was responsible for delivering the tracks that have become our greatest memories of the Golden Age of Motown before the move to L.A.

Such a great idea to seek out The Funk Brothers and get them the recognition they deserve. It's definitely one of my favorite documentaries.

Brilliant insight at every level. Motown was my teens and beyond, and paved the way for great music worldwide. Shame these guys weren't given the respect and credibility sooner. Respect to you Allan for your tenacity it delivering this emotional legacy.

Great Story inspired. Allan I appreciate your heartfelt honesty and you tell the story so down to earth no ego and very interesting. This was a great documentary and it's so good that The Funk Brothers got the credit they deserved.

Excellent. I grew up in Royal oak where they film the concert. From 1967 to 1972. Moved to Cincinnati when I was 13. Got to see a concert with Peter Gabriel, at that time my hero, at the Royal oak theater in 1978 love going up there.

Too bad many of the great musicians (The Funk Brothers) who were the sound of some of the greatest music known to man died off before receiving their just due. A big Thanks to Allen for caring and appreciating enough their musical contributions. The story of Robert White's attempt at recognition in the restaurant was sad. The legendary James Jamison had opening baseline on the same "my girl" track.

I enjoyed this, but was sad that he didn't share a story or mention Johnny Griffith once, he was precious! Also, I couldn't think of a better choice than Joan for What Becomes of the Brokenhearted!! Turned me on to that song!
