Pretty alright paper so im happy - except for the semicircle question - I just realised it was like the 3 circles question we got in 2022 with the forming equilateral triangles in the circle only this one I forgot about it :( - paper 2 is gonna have so much vectors, and trig identity proof and much more integration for sure im guessing good luck for everyone for bio tomorrow im cooked
Yeah I think Paper 2 is likely to be challenging given the topics that haven't been touched yet.

@@XYZ-un7ct Still debatable, this paper had harder questions but they provided so much information they gave the substitution, show that questions, contradiction statement, and the part bs and cs didnt rely as much on the previous questions. I think this was a better paper
@db5094 maybe , but 2023 was too straight forward only 2-3 were hard , in this one 5-6 were hard.

@@evelynmed i remember it well because i lost 2 marks from just not stating what f(x+h) was in a practice mock which was very stupid since it's easy. Gladly didn't make the same mistake in the actual paper

I loved the 2022 GCSE Edexcel Paper 1 Maths Higher throwback. I could actually do the question this time :))
I was surprised how much differential equations came up on this paper. I think the proof by contradiction was a bit difficult, but overall I don't think it was that bad.

Only started studying 4 months ago for the test and worked from home so I’m just taking this test to get a good understanding but it feels like however much you revise it’s comparable to how much you put in you don’t get much out with a levels in general but all good head strong

I got basically everything except for some small mistakes like using 4.5 instead of 3.5 in that one rabbit question. I also somehow forgot QUOTIENT RULE AND I DROPPED ATLEAST 4 MARKS ON THAT 😭😭😭
Otherwise I'm expecting around 80, hopefully gonna do much better with less silly mistakes in paper 2 tomorrow

Yeah that was great overall for me, for once i actually had time at the end to double check so I'm quite confident I got enough for A*, unless grade boundaries go even higher than last year which i doubt

I’m a C grade student, maths is by far my worst subject (Bio,chem & maths) and I thought it was a pretty decent paper, towards the middle/end I wasn’t able to answer later parts of questions but I was expecting that tbh. Overall I’m pleased
That's great, I'm so pleased to hear this! I would encourage you not to label yourself as a particular grade of student - you certainly have the potential to reach higher grades, the sky is the limit! Keep on pushing, you can do this! Well done :)
It was so fun! The last question felt a bit confusing but the rest was a good challenge.
I felt like up to qs 10 everything was going amazingly .. but then the rest of the qs were all pretty weird and took a lot of time for me not just the semi circle and the substitution one 😭 anyone else?

Ah I am so pleased! I took a lot of thought and care preparing this - although I have been very privileged to make money doing something that I love, my primary aim has always been, and always will be, to provide high quality education for as many as possible. So this comment really means a lot to me, thank you :)
P.S. I'm not running an additional mech and stats one, as these have already taken place - there's also no specific predictions for this year, so they cover (nearly) all the course. I've just reduced the prices of the recordings to £15 in the hope of allowing more people to access them. They can be purchased from the same link in the description :)

Hey bicen! So for the semi circle question i drew rhe triangle inside and all that, but did not get √3 in my answer, so i think i got 2 marks for that (lost 2)
For modulus graph, i didnt do the last 2 mark part because i forgot. So lost 2 marks here for sure
Integration question, for part a i got pretty much all of it correct but forgot to change the limits, and got a² ourside the integral instead of 1/2 × a², so probably lost 2/4 marks aswell? How many do you think id get? Part b u got the correct answer of k= 1/8
So i know for sure i lost around 6 marks
Im not sure about the other questions - i know i got the differential Q questjon correct and the rabbits+foxes one, but the others i dont remmeber too well and could have made silly mistakes.
Do i have a good chance at A*? If boundsries were 72 like 2022, id be sure i got A* but if the boundaries are like last year with 81 for a*, im not 100% sure.
I think the boundaries will probably be the same tbh, this paper was easier than last year, but the next paper might be more difficult and balance it out. I think 81% is a good spot

For the Stats and Mechanics one tho it says its on the 23rd of june but my exam for edecel is on the 20th of June, would that happen to be a typo or is it actually on the 23rd? I have to set the date at the end of the exam period so that the event stays live - it has already taken place, and it's just the recording - as soon as you purchase it, you receive all the materials in the confirmation email and can use it right away!
I was able to get the semicircle question instantly but my adhd made me mess up the area of the triangle so I wasn’t able to get the right answer 😂

for the differential equation about the balloon, where part a was to identify the differential equation and part b was to separate variables and integrate to find it in a certain form, do I get any marks for error carried forward as I got the differential equation wrong (it was inversely proportional and I did 1/k (square root of h) rather that (k/square root of h) and I integrated it
uuu thats tricky one, the form of the equation is incorrect, error carried forward is in rgards to using a wrong answer in another part, so if you got the wrong answer, you may be able to get a mark or two working out constants and the radius
bought your in between session! anything to help me get an A* as this point!

It depends on the grades youve been getting throughout the year. All you could do now and practice exam papers and make sure you memorise the things you need. Dont worry about getting A* just try and attempt as many questions as possible and reread your answers

I don't think so, I am currently planning the 'in between' session and it is taking a long time to make it as best as it possibly can be!
For the foxes part did people get 200/3 is the time in months
it was 20/3 which is roughly 6.7, 200/3 would be 67 months which makes no sense as it was within 1 year

@@Ja-od1mh you form an equilateral triangle with each side being 5 cm bc of the radius (I got that part) ~~- bc it’s equilateral each angle is the same so pi/3 then you can use than to find areas of the sectors
@@Ja-od1mh since it’s a semi circle the total area is (pix5^2)/2 so if you find the area of the unshaded area you can minus that from the total area of the semi circle

Does anyone know how to improve your time management in exams I had to leave a lot out and im scared this will my grade cause I left some out that I sins understand
if you can't do a question basically as soon as you see it, or you get stuck and you don't know what to do, skip it and move on. that way you'll finish having got all of the marks for qs you can do and method marks for the rest, and then if you have time you can go back to try and redo some of the questions you couldn't get the first time

I advise this to everyone - if you are confident, you might get arrogant, and if you found it hard, it'll stop you reaching your potential in the next papers. You've got this, there's time!

The last question had me fuming. What does it mean by "show the calculations for the proof" when they were already written there?
you had to do it by doing 28= 7x4 and 28= 1x28 and then sub those values in and find values which were all not integers
I think you had to consider the possible factors for 28 so: 1&28, 7&4 (given) and 3&8

Except for some 1-2 markers and messing up with substituting the Newton Raphson equation into my calculator correctly I found it pretty easy quite satisfied 👍😌

You do amazing work but I wish you would stop predicting grade boundaries. Every year you along with lots of other social media helpers are very wrong in their predictions. Please instead tell students that there are too many variables to make any kind of reliable predictions.
Thank you! I totally appreciate what you’re saying - but I believe that I make it clear that it is speculation and I don’t ever give actual numerical boundaries. And ultimately, what I say (or anyone else says for that matter) doesn’t affect the grade outcome for anyone - the only thing that can affect that is how many marks someone scores. I feel like making any kind of speculation that could be wildly wrong (and often is) won't help anyone and so I don't see the point of it. There may be students who hear your predictions and decide to put their feet up because they think they're guaranteed the grade they need. Yes this won't be many students but if this happens to one student then it's just not worth it. Your predictions have been very inaccurate in the past but I want to be clear that I'm not singling you out I haven't found anyone who is able to make reliable predictions, especially over the last few years.

I would like also to add that as well as potential set backs, there are definitely benefits with knowing roughly what a boundary is for any exam. It can really help with exam strategy, I've found. @@BicenMaths I agree that there are advantages knowing roughly what grade boundaries will be and for the old spec you could often make decent guesses. My point is that for the last few years the predictions by yourself and many others online have been very wrong in some cases so it makes the predictions pointless and not worth the risk.

Honestly loved the paper. Didn't get the semicircle question, was iffy on the show that sine integration question (like max 3/8) and the final 4 mark proof by contradiction stumped me, but overall i reckon i got more than 70%. Grade A feels safe

as far as vectors go, are you expecting a harder question (or questions??) in paper 2? like 6-7 markers or lambda-mu?
also, do you think paper 2 will be easier or harder (or about the same)?
I think vectors will be straight-forward, however for my Zoom session I'm preparing with the more challenging type, just in case! I imagine P2 will be harder as the topics tend to be more difficult (parametric for example... if it comes up!)

Ffs I messed it up too I couldn’t get c to be 10 for some reason so I just left it I probs got around 2/3 marks
The first differential equation was nice I got 0.6 and 0.9

im slightly worried because when i checked my paper i caught so many mistakes, but i didnt have time to check everything and i had to skip the semicircle question and integration question bc of time constraints. also for the rabbits question i got that the population was 1032.6 so i just wrote it as 1032 bc i explained that you cant have a fraction of a rabbit but now everyone is saying its 1033 :(
I did 1032 as well, normally for those questions they allow either 1032 or 1033. They should definitely allow 1032 since you can't have 0.6 of a rabbit
What do you think the grade boundaries will be like? If they're higher than 2023 I'm not getting into my top uni choice

@phillipschofield3966 i disagree. But thats just me. Seems like the differential equations, semicircle, substituion, and contradiction were all done extremely poorly by the very much most

@@phillipschofield3966 oh yeah, tbf you might be right about the A* and maybe A boundary. But I think the B and below boundaries will be lower. It seems like the general consensus either understood it all entirely, or didnt understand about 5 questions and scored close to 0 on all 5.

I thought it was pretty good but I can never finish any papers, I missed about 1 and half questions which is probably nearly the best I've done but because I was so stressed (it was the first exam I've done since physics 2 weeks ago) I'm feeling like I might not have done too well
