2024 Election Hustings in Warrenpoint, South Down

  • Rotten to the Point held an Election Hustings in the town, on Thursday 27 June and members of the public were invited to attend with an opportunity to question the candidates. Kicking off at 7pm all nine South Down Election candidates have been invited.
    The group has raised severe issues from concerned residents and Businesses in Warrenpoint and the Carlingford Lough area concerning a foul smell and flies emanating from Warrenpoint Harbour Authority and Re Gen Waste over the past 2 years.
    All nine election candidates have been invited to the hustings taking place Thursday 27 June at The Skylite Room No7 Duke Street Warrenpoint starting at 7pm. TUV's Jim Wells, Green Party NI candidate Declan Walsh and UUP South Down candidate Michael O'Loan took questions from the community.
    A Rotten to the Point spokesperson said the community "needs action now once and for all, over this issue that affects so many that has severe health issues for many in the community and has a hit on businesses in the town that rely upon this summer season with the community and visitors to the area and also festivals in the town that can well do without the foul smell and flies.
    "The waste bales are at levels again that are of great concern to the community with lorry loads of waste coming to Warrenpoint Harbour Authority at an alarming rate from Re Gen Waste."
