@Dear Mary J. Jackson, i am sorry someone left a very hostile and negative comment, but I am in love with this song and it has been very helpful to me. There is so much I want to tell you; about my father who fought against the nazis in Europe and was ordered by Ike to view the death camps, about his love for Jazz and especially Satchmo, his favorite, about my faith journey and my struggle to understand the racial hatreds that plague all of us, about meeting Bryon Lewis, my first black friend, at the Woodstock music festival, and I'm sorry it's such a long story. I'm leaving a lot out. For me, an Italian-American, this song resonates so deeply and i did not know about the backstory until i watched your very good and important video this morning. My personal favorite version is by the Harmonizing Four out of Richmond, Va. Someone needs to make a film about them and their awesume carreer, and their role in our history. And also about Cassetta George. Ignorance and hatred are our enemies. This year, 2024, will be as revolutionary as 1964 in many ways. I hope most Americans will finally reject the godless ideas of a small but sizeable minority and replace it with a real regard for each other and the Creator. Thank you so much, Mary Jackson.
Also, thank you for explaining and adding some background, and adding some context to the story that might get otherwise lost in the confusion of too much information. Yes, we need to know our whole history. The truth will set us free, if we can imagine, and feel each other's hope for a better place, in spite of our own senseless creulty to one another and to ourselves. Lord, help us see the light..
