Animusic is an American company specializing in the 3D visualization of MIDI-based music. They produced three DVDs of computer-generated music videos featuring self-playing instruments.
This is Aquaharp, one of their first pieces (written in 1999), played on a real harp. In the original Animusic video, an imaginary 26-stringed harp connected to pan flutes, tubular bells, a violin and a cello is played by levitating tear-shaped picks. The harp sits in the middle of a room filled with a foot of water and opened to the night sky. The lighting of the scene changes as underwater lights react to the music and water gently ripples in the background.

Maia Darmé joue la musique d'une de leur premières vidéos, "Aquaharp", sur une vraie harpe. Dans la vidéo d'origine, une étrange harpe, à laquelle sont attachés des flutes de pan, des cloches tubulaires, un violon et un violoncelle, est jouée par des plectres en forme de gouttes d'eau qui se déplacent seuls. La harpe est placée au milieu d'une pièce remplie d'eau et ouverte sur un ciel nocturne où brillent la lune et des étoiles. De l'eau ruisselle doucement en fond et les lumières s'allument au fur et à mesure que la musique évolue.

Commenting again for the simple fact that this continues to be absolutely gorgeous, and I've listened to it at least weekly for years now.
Slow the video down to .75 and the song is almost exact.

You are so right Eric, regarding this soft, beautiful rendition of the Aqua Harp. This is real harp music. This modern generation is so in tune with computerization that they have lost touch with the real world, like movies that are totally CGI, not real, no need for real actors and directors. My hobby is collecting and fixing vintage clocks, wall clocks, mantle clocks and grandfather clocks. I really have a good selection of beautiful old clocks. My brother-in-law came into my man-cave one day and started picking at the clocks, "this one is off by 2 minutes, this one is a minute slow" etc. I told him that they are not electronic, they are mechanical, and if he wanted to stare at his electronic phone for the time, he was welcome to do that.
But the thing is, the original comes from a video album called Animusic A Computer Animation Visual Album. The idea with it is that the music was all created in software with MIDI synthesizers and the animation that accompanied the music was driven by the same MIDI files that the synthesizers played. Creator Wayne Lytle came up with the idea all the way back in the late '80s and first showed it off in 1990 with his animation More Bells And Whistles. So why should we not compare with how the original sounded?

waylon hockemier Waylon, there’s no supporting orchestra here as there was in the Animusic version. If she played more slowly, it wouldn’t sound right.
i like this version better to be honest. the tempo just sounds better in my opinion 🤷♀️
Thank you! It did feel quite 'empty' playing it at the original tempo on solo harp -- the melodic line's legato was getting a bit lost without the supporting instruments emphasizing it. That being said, if I were to record it again, I would probably try it a tad slower anyway; something in between :)

Animusic used to be a favorite pastime of me and my sister. She plays the harp, so after begging for a while, I convinced her to learn Aqua Harp. That was many years ago, and hearing this cover brought me back to that time in my life. Thank you for this brilliant rendition of the song and for the wonderful trip of nostalgia.

To me it actually sounds better with the faster tempo. Yes, you get more notes crowding together (same as if you extended the release on an ADSR synthesized harp by tweaking the instrument model), but that seems to be precisely *why* it works.

Why is MIDI out of all digital music...thingies the most realistic sounding. how did we go from spyro 1's guitar barley sounding like a guitar to 4K ULTRA HD SOUNDING HARP in Animusic

How did you play this with the varying sharps on a lever harp? I have a lever harp and have been wanting to play this
It’s been a very long time since I’ve played this actually, but from the top of my head I think I was playing a Db in the bass instead of C# to have one less lever change, and then it was just a matter of taking enough time on the fermata to lower the two G#. The lever changes aren’t showed in the video though, which I can imagine must be confusing if you were looking out for them! All in all, it is definitely playable on the lever harp without too much hassle. Go for it, it’s a lovely piece!
why don't you change their key by lever?
Err, sorry, I am not quite sure what you meant by that 🤔 I do have levers on the electric harp that I can use to raise the pitch of each string by a semi tone

decided, after watching many harp players on here, that I could never be one. I am too ugly. There must be a pre-selection to get into harp studies...
🤣🤣🤣 my personal theory is that harps have a magical cute factor that makes anyone standing next to them look more attractive (also works with kittens). Which is why I make sure to always have a harp in my pictures 😄 (I find it harder to source kittens)
