I've always been fascinated by "The Zipper". I've ridden it twice in my life. Both times, while standing and watching it, I couldn't wait to get on it. But then, while riding it, I couldn't wait to get the hell off! Such is the magic of "The Zipper"! Excellent video!
Zipper update 2013! All the loud music on the ride has been turned OFF! So the operators can hear someone scream "Let me off"! What a drag! Ride the ZIPPER before our litigious nanny state outlaws it! Still the best ride ever!
This is the most enjoyable on-ride video of the Zipper on the internet. The music. Your enthusiasm. It's really great. Thanks for sharing this video of my favorite childhood ride.
This is a hybrid Zipper. It was made in the late 80s and it has the newer seats. The Zippers made from 1968 to 1970 had a spring latch and nothing else. The spring latch would expire and not be replaced and that's why the doors opened. Now this ride has the lighter seats that have the pin. The Zippers made from 1998 to 2005 have the heavier cages. Those have 2 spring loaded slider latches and the lap bar latch.
Like I said, most are of the portable 12-car variety, thus allowing the ride attendant to stow (lower hydraulically) the entire ride onto the attached trailer without having to remove the cars from their carriages whatsoever...The other types I spoke of had to be disattached completely from the trailer and assembled manually onto a stand, being that they were taller, and designed for more permanent season or year round applications...I've never seen the 20-car version. I think they came later...
I went to the fair with my grandpas girlfriends grandsons, and one of them and me went on it together, and I was wearing flip flops, and they fell out and hit him in the face while we were in the cart. And I screamed so loudly and one of them asked "Was that you who was screaming?!" And I'm like "Yeah." (: love this ride.
Its only fun if the operator knows how to properly run the ride...sometimes you run into newbie operators who dont get how to make the gondolas whip around the corners as the whole thing is turning.
This is the BEST ride at the carnival byfar... it is TERRIFYING! You get whipped and thrown around at what feels like 100 mph... the best part is when you are at the end of the arm, and you hit the spinning part that whips you around super fast... you know what I mean if you have ridden it!
Yes Michael Jackson did at one time own his own Zipper ride I remember seeing a documentary on television years ago where Oprah Winfrey visited him on his Neverland Ranch and they walked around his own personal Carnival and the Zipper was one of the rides that he had.
Its not really a forest. I go there every year and it just looks like that in the video. Just where this fair is, there is a lot of wildlife and trees but if you look at the trees on a ride or just standing you can see the road(s) and other stuff.
@WEBERisAbadCOACH Yea apparently some early model zippers have (had) lighter door and lock assemblies that spun easier, but were prone to opening while underway. The newer heavy doors are hard to spin.
Although few in number, Chance also made the "Super Zipper" and "Mega Zipper" (slightly taller 16-car or 20-car versions, respectively) designed for theme park applications where a less portable set-up was preferred...I've only seen the 16 car version in use at a theme park...
@andrewcroad just go up to the operator and tell him you're solo and he'll hook you up with another solo rider right away. That's exactly what happened here.
lol I remember when my friend rode a Zipper at my fair and he thought that you held your hands onto the lap bar instead of the bars on the inside of the cage. he was hanging for dear life till he found out u were supposed to hold on to the bars on the inside
The ones in Australia are not new. They are way more violent than that one!!! They are old and creaky and will flip with just a jolt. I was continuously flipping for the whole ride. One of my favourite carnival rides for sure!!
That's outstanding! The early models had the lighter doors and faster RPM on the chain drive...that's what I remembered from riding the Zipper in '78. Post us a video of it!
Your zipper is all colorful and friendly looking. The one at my town has a brownish color because of the rust, and the cars make about a thousand different noises when you're in them. Who cares...still riding it.
I went on one (first and last time) at the Melbourne show, it was the bad ass one, my friend and I both smashed our faces on the inside of the door and we constantly flipped until it finished. Never again
Wow super cool carnival in the woods like that. I'm scared of this ride, the one I rode was missing teeth on the main sprocket. I felt this was indicative of the overall maintenance. Not to mention it was manufactured by a company named "Chance Manufacturing" which natural leads to a weary eye. The whole thing is held together by large hitch pins...yikes...Still the greatest machine ever built 'in my opinion'. Always see which car flips at the top. Ride that car!.
my sister went on this when she was 4.... she went on jumping up and down all excited and smiling.... she came off crying! i cant remember if she puked on the other kid or the other kid puked on her.
So they have this for spring break down here in lake havasu, in a park where you pay 40 dollars, and you get everything free (not to mention free funnel cake and burgers). I love this ride, but I fucking hate doing front flips on this shit
my dad is sick and I told my mom when my dad is better me and her can go in the zipper she said ok and my sister does not want to go there she thinks it's scary I told my sister that the zipper is not scary
You cant actually not spin the car. Basically the car flips and spins whether you want it to or not. There are ways to make it spin a little more or less, but there is no stopping it or really controlling it.

I went to a fair last night and I went on the Zipper. It was so fun! I was sick 20 minutes later though...
Siobhan Godsil-Lehmann same
LOL
More like the WOODS fair, it's always nice to ride with someone who enjoys the ride.
This is the most enjoyable on-ride video of the Zipper on the internet. The music. Your enthusiasm. It's really great. Thanks for sharing this video of my favorite childhood ride.
Thanks! My favorite ride from my childhood...

Excellent Info!
These are the kind of details I like see.
I love how the Zipper sounds
Imagine if every cage had a stop button for the ride...
Something like that exists, it's the rock-o-plane ride.
JB, you're having WAAY too much fun. Ear to Ear Grin!!
I like the history... The Zipper is brutal!
I was there for my 25 year class reunion. NU Class of “86”!
Craziest ride ever! JB's definitely not afraid to take a ride on the wild side yeahhhh! 😎😁
First time I went on the ride was in 1985 in Birmingham England ... its was the most insane ride at our local funfair
is this safe the pin keeps you from deth and the first 20 unites?
I am watching from Elmira NY I rode the zipper quite a few times it is a lot of fun
Now that would be one rare Zipper!
Thanks for this bit of Zipper History!
wow this is the prettiest zipper ive ever seen its so colourful ,clean and shinny. it be sad if anyone threw up on this one.
I love that ride so much. ♥○♥

went on this ride 12 times in a row yesterday best day of my life :D
is it just a weird shaped farris wheel if you dont spin the car?
I wish Six Flags would build one of these but super sized! :D
when you talked about Michal Jacksons record my instant reaction was "Challange accepted"
I went to the fair with my grandpas girlfriends grandsons, and one of them and me went on it together, and I was wearing flip flops, and they fell out and hit him in the face while we were in the cart. That ride was so fun! But the one this man is on looks nice and new! The one I went on was so rusty and creaky!! It scared me!
I've been on this 3 times and I don't get sick. But its a AWESOME RIDE!
Best ride ever for a Midway!
Im so scared! Im gonna try it at billy barker days. Does it go fast?
Destiny Watson A little bit fast...and just scary enough...
+XxRaven Unicornxx msp Excellent!

And. In. A. Butifuuuul
And. I. Love it and. It awsome
That ride is so damn fun
@TallRobby - there is a seat and the door has a lap bar that pushes against your legs when the door closes.
Yes Michael Jackson did at one time own his own Zipper ride I remember seeing a documentary on television years ago where Oprah Winfrey visited him on his Neverland Ranch and they walked around his own personal Carnival and the Zipper was one of the rides that he had.
Have you rode the hurricane
I love this ride. It doesn't scare me, I just love when I flip. My record is only 4 flips in a row. Imma beat that today
rock-o-planes are far better for getting spinning can easily spin the entire time of ride if you know how to time it, I lost count after 14 !!!!
If you didn't have a go pro do you think it would be hard to hold a phone on this ride
Hannah Donnell No, but it will be a very shaky video...this ride ROCKS!
YES ITS HARD
Well you would also have to have a very good grip on it. Don't want to drop it.
Yep! The Carnies love it! Pennies from Heaven.
does anyone else feel slightly un easy that there is a carnival in a middle of a forest? (If ur a slender fan like me you'll get it)
Its not really a forest. I go there every year and it just looks like that in the video. Just where this fair is, there is a lot of wildlife and trees but if you look at the trees on a ride or just standing you can see the road(s) and other stuff.
Thanks, I'm going to listen to some more B.O.C. now!
@WEBERisAbadCOACH Yea apparently some early model zippers have (had) lighter door and lock assemblies that spun easier, but were prone to opening while underway. The newer heavy doors are hard to spin.
If u where to buy one where would u get it and how much is it

Damn this zipper is really fast they probably put new motors in them
the boy in the yellow shirt riding with that guy in the red shirt is cute :) *hearts fly out of head*
Wow That makes me woozy just watching Juan bang his head back and forth making that thing spin!
Yea, man!
I remember the year that our fair "steele county fair got 2 zippers a new one and an old one everyone liked the old one!
@andrewcroad just go up to the operator and tell him you're solo and he'll hook you up with another solo rider right away. That's exactly what happened here.
Fair yesterday loved it zipper is a must do :)
Love it! Yeehaaaw!
lol I remember when my friend rode a Zipper at my fair and he thought that you held your hands onto the lap bar instead of the bars on the inside of the cage. he was hanging for dear life till he found out u were supposed to hold on to the bars on the inside

Terrifying YES!

I love this one
i been on that ride like 10 times the first time i cries thou but its fun after a while but super scary at times
Your zipper is all colorful and friendly looking. The one at my town has a brownish color because of the rust, and the cars make about a thousand different noises when you're in them. Who cares...still riding it.
Wish they would bring this ride to my towns carnival
Not even! It's like riding in a giant chainsaw being juggled by a Venice Beach chainsaw juggler!
this rides is amazing .. to bad i havent been on in 2 weeks.
In SD ours is CRAZY!❤
Maria Nelson true I'm from SD!
The Australian ones are insane compared to this OMG. You always walk out with some sort of injury, hahah.
Yes! you still have the original Zippers which were much faster and more violent!
Brooke Anderson I wish Yarmouth had one of the original zippers
I went on one (first and last time) at the Melbourne show, it was the bad ass one, my friend and I both smashed our faces on the inside of the door and we constantly flipped until it finished. Never again
I first ride the zipper when I was 6!😂
One Of the scariest rides iv'e ridden.
Wow super cool carnival in the woods like that. I'm scared of this ride, the one I rode was missing teeth on the main sprocket. I felt this was indicative of the overall maintenance. THE ZIPPER IS FUCKING FAST AND FUN ALL MY COINS FELL OUT LOL
I rode one last night, rough ride but it was fun. My brother is super skinny and he was literally be tossed around inside next to me. Lol
that was in 1994 or 1995!
this went to my fair
I went on the zipper with my friend and we had to ask the guy to let us out of the ride bc we were so scared
Zipper recently and I blacked out then when I open my eyes backup we were at the top
Coming to my town wednesday
my sister went on this when she was 4.... she went on jumping up and down all excited and smiling.... she came off crying! i cant remember if she puked on the other kid or the other kid puked on her.
I was on here for an hour... so I have the record..
Well I've been on this and it was scary at the first time but then u get used to it
Michael Jackson did have this ride at his Neverland Valley Ranch!
yo the zipper in my county fair has no cushions at all wth😂
Yeowww!
I went on there with one of my friends and are cart was spinning like crazy
Yeah the Zipper cost $38,000 in 1968 and as of 2011 it cost $575,000
That looks scary the only intents ride will go on is the umbrella ride
The first time I went on this, when he started the ride, and we looked down and saw dried puke :S
So they have this for spring break down here in lake havasu, in a park where you pay 40 dollars, and you get everything free (not to mention free funnel cake and burgers).
I love this ride, but I fucking hate doing front flips on this shit
the first time i went on this i thought it was going to make me sick or soemthing but it looks worth than it is
