I did know about Booker T. Sometimes when me and the expats feel like getting into the same space😊, we say we miss cricket. And then we hum the the theme tune
I think that there is an increasing lack of personality in pop music today. When was the last time you heard a modern pop record and exclaim the virtues of that particular drummer or bass player etc??
Unfortunately, they (UMG et al) have got wise to us now - actual new vinyl product is commonly £40-£50 now with the equivalent CD at one third of that.
Speaking of needing an editor, Ryan Adams released 5 albums in the first of January this year (4 of those 5 have unreleased material). Out of these 4, just one is really a proper album ("Star Sign"). There are two albums ("Heatwave" and "Sword and Stones") that could make a single album - which should only be released at a later date to be worth of listening. And there's one called "1985" (80's punk based), that he needed an editor so bad - it should be an 8 track EP, but turned out an uneven 20 plus songs opus (even though it's only 30 minutes long).
I was shocked to hear the Blue Nile name-checked, too. Then I was informed by my daughter that "Downtown Lights" was chosen because it was released in (wait for it ... ) 1989.
I've just listened to Jessica, first time for many years, and David is right to point out that the whole band are cookin'. I suppose I ought to give the latest Taylor Swift a brief listen but I'm confident she won't make as much of an impression as Susanne Sundfor has. Check her out, guys! 'Music For People In Trouble' is stunning.
Yes - you hear modern songs which are full of sounds, without being able to tell what they are, or whether they were played live or telephoned in or built with mouse-clicks etc. And the songs don't 'breathe' because they were built on click-tracks and there's no groove or swing or feel. Disclosure I detest a lot of modern music. But I can think of some good modern artists like - say Weyes Blood - where a live version on YT can be more satisfactory, when it's an actual band rendering the song in real time, and it seems to shake off the stiffness of the studio recording.
Yes, but i heard a live song that was added into a soundtrack of the television, not sure if it was Netflix, Big Little Lies, which is 'Nothing Arrived' via Spotify London, by Villagers. Not 'The because bands had recently given using 'The' in their band names - so last century. The song is not too bad, but it's really only a breather between Straight from The Heart, Irma Thomas, and Don't, Zoë Kravitz's version. The compilation year is 2017
"all their records consist of a lot of sounds and not necessarily a lot of instruments" Yes, the necessary conclusion of recording is for music to be replaced by mere sound.
Awww didn't know about Dicky Betts and was just listening to Fillmore on the 18th .....They had lots of tragedy - even when they tried to make a film of Gregg Allmans life story. Check it out if you don't know about it. Oh - and Butch Trucks killed himself in 2017.
I believe that Chuck Leavell's last name is pronounced like the word, "level". His naming a side project Sea Level may have been a way of gently nudging people towards the correct prononciation. From Wikipedia: "The trio added guitarist Jimmy Nalls and took their name from the phonetic pun of their new bandleader Chuck Leavell's name: 'C. Leavell.'"
I remember reading about Sea Level but didn't dawn on me about the pun on Chuck Leavell's name! I've heard it pronounced almost in a French style "Le Velle". He also played some great piano on Eric Clapton's Unplugged album. Fantastic player.
The Allman family revival band, they played the material pretty damn well too, sounded just like the Allmans, lol, it was actually a fair bit better than I expected and it's great to hear that music played live, hot band.

Re.Double Albums What about Guns & Roses Use Your Illusion I & II? Truly awful...

I think the remark about having insufficient time to write a short letter, hence the letter was long, is usually attributed to Pascal.

Surely, The Richard Hammond organ

Yeah I think CDs are too long, the old vinyl LP was about right
Depends who makes them. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti

Be careful not to overdose on The Blue Nile...brilliant band but can leave you with serious melancholy. 😭

Artists that constantly need(ed) an editor
1. Roger Waters
2. Prince
3. errrrr
4. That's it.
Jessica is absolutely a band arrangement and they all shine. It has the warmest piano sound ever recorded.
I just saw his son and Greg Allmans son play A few weeks ago
.. Duane Beyts
