    There’s some big time offensive play shown here, especially for that era.

    this is a fantastic rareity!! nfl films used some of the film over the years and acquired just about every thing available, but to see the original broadcast without them touching it is just great!! if you have anymore it would be great to see by any nfl team in the 1950's!!

      This is true, but I also believe the NFL has tight control over the old games and doesn't allow certain games. They had a tv show the NFL greatest games which had 90 minute versions of some of the best games in NFL history. They had players, coaches, referees, and announcers comment on different parts of each game. These used to be on Hulu, but then were taken off, (I don't know if they were added back but I suspect not). They showcased games like the '58 championship between the Colts and Giants, the ice bowl between the Packers and Cowboys, Super bowl 3 between the Jets and Colts, the '82 playoff between San Diego and Miami, and the '86 and '87 playoff games between the Broncos and Browns among others. I don't know how many of these are available in other collections, but the only one I found is the Ice Bowl which is included in the dvd series The Complete History of the Green Bay Packers. I didn't see either of the Bronco's wins in any of the Bronco's greatest games series. It makes me think they are really promoting the more recent games and ignoring many of the older games.
      One game that wasn't a part of this tv series was the'48 Championship in the blizzard, Eagles 7, Chicago Cardinals 0. It had all the plays or pretty much all the plays in kind of a condensed form and it was on youtube. It was maybe 30-40 minutes or so but the last time I looked there were only parts of this game on youtube. I'm not an Eagles fan, (I'm a Packers fan), but the '48 and '60 championships are two great games in NFL history which I'd really like to see in their entirety if the telecasts still exist.

    I never heard the Eagles referred to as the "birds" before. My first NFL memory was the Eagles winning the 1960 title. My dad's 1st cousin was married to a cousin of Paul Horning. I remember my father consoling him after the upset victory. I have always loved the Eagles winged helmets and the mainly green jerseys.

    The Packers' win was their only win of the season, and their only win under Scooter McLean as head coach. Howie Ferguson and Billy Howton were among the first players let go by Vince Lombardi when he took over in 1959.

    • @howardcosell2022

      Billy Howton belongs in the Hall of Fame and maybe Lombardi cutting him may have had influence on why he's not in

    That fake punt by the Cardinals was quite the bone headed play, with about a minute to go, deep in their own territory with a 21-14 lead. Bet the writers in Chicago had a field day with that call.

    Everytime I tell my kids the NFL Cardinals played in Chicago (1920-1959) they don't believe me and I have to pull out my copy of "Total Football" to show 'em! By the way...watching Eagles vs Cleveland, I remembered that the year of these highilghts (1958) was Jim Brown's second year-he was great already...

      King Bee absolutely right, Jim Brown is the greatest running back of all time, bar none. had he not retired at 29, he would have set career records backs of today would still be chasing,

      King Bee BTW, I agree with the poster that 1960 (to be specific, Friday, Sept.9, 1960) starts the Modern Era of pro football, NOT 1970. It was the date that the AFL actually fielded teams and started their first regular season (Denver 13, Boston 10).

      Tell your kids that I was born and raised in Chicago in the forties and fifties and it took me years to get use to the Cardinals NOT being in Chicago. I grew up on the Near North Side being a Bear fan and how I hated the Cardnials ! They were always a bad team, back in their Chicago days, but they would some how find a way to beat the Bears ?

    • @Fruth37
      @Fruth37 8 років тому +1

      +thecuckookid If you are referring to the black players, most had to wait for the formation of the American Football League to get a fair chance to play professional football. That league really opened the door for ALL talented men to show their stuff on the gridiron.

    • @3243_
      @3243_ 8 років тому +2

      +Fruth37 There were African-American players on every NFL team (except the Washington Redskins who would be the last to integrate, in 1962) but usually only two or four on a team. The AFL did give a lot more chances to black players. The AFL would also be the first league to have black starting middle linebackers (Willie Lanier of the Kansas City Chiefs and Garland Boyette of the Houston Oilers in 1967) and a starting black quarterback (the Denver Broncos' Marlin Briscoe in 1968).
