The HB sounds crisper and brighter in the clean section and rocks on the crunch & hi gain. I'll take the HB!!! Especially for the difference in price as well!!
Makes sense that the HB is brighter. The LAFs are wound to classic paf specs at 8.4 k on the bridge while the 498T is wound a lot hotter at around 14 k for more mids and output.
Both guitars sound great, that’s down to the skill of the guy doing the demo. You can do these comparisons with any piece of gear, people who think gear price is important are often deluded. A great singer with an sm58 wired mic or 30 dollar sm58 copy is always going to sound better than mr average and his 5 grand uhf digital receiver radio mic. Nice demo. Thanks.
Got a Strat copy from HB. Complete POS. Buy, if you enjoy finishing half made guitar. Out of the box it was unplayable. Low E touching frets, whammy bar too thin, buzzing like a hornets nest, doesn't stay in tune for even 24 hours, needs intonation and most probably some neck fiddling. The replacement neck tusq sent was too narrow to put in place, so I've made myself one from brass. I'll sell mine for 50%, IF I can. My first and assuredly LAST HB guitar. Luckily I got another great custom made, with humbuckers, but I wanted to hear how the Strat sounds. Will carefully select the original Strat model, because they actually appreciate with time, besides being a ton of fun to play. There has NEVER been a deal to good to be true. Buyer beware.
I own one and set it up with a pro-Luthier shop. There is nothing shoddy about this build. It's not a Private Stock PRS, but it beats most other guitars with much higher prices. I do own a couple of PRS's as well.
I don't see anything wrong with HB pick ups. If you have a Gibson, use it for that kind of sound, HB for that different sound and you are fine. If you don't have a Gibson and you want that fat Gibson sound then changing pu makes sense. I have both and I like that difference between them, why I would I want to have 2 guitars that sounds the same?
There is a certain point with guitars where there is literally nothing you could do to make them sound better and that point is below the thousand dollar mark, even with the expensive brands. Anything above that you're not paying for sound quality but for manufacturing quality, brand name, fancy materials etc. In the end, if the guitar is "good enough" it just comes down to to the player. Great comparison and proof that a 250$ guitar can easily keep up with a 1000$ guitar in the right hands!
Good comparison , I’m going to search for a similar video between a Gibson Les Paul and a Harley Benton SC Custom 550 ( I think they are a little closer in nature)
Sounds almost identical. Would not be able to tell if it were a blind test. But since I know which one is Gibson, I tend to think that that sounds better.
The Gibson is better. It’s easy to make clean sound via cheaper pickups. The Gibson have some secret magic warm tone , especially when you want the classic tone in those classic rock songs. But the difference is not huge. for me I will choose HB guitars.
Great playing and great review 🤘🏻 I prefer my new HB EX 76 Classic over my Gibson because sounds better..more sustain, more mids and bass. Build Quality is perfect. Gibson can't beat it and cost four Times more....ridiculous! And my HB CTS PRS Copy is as good as my PRS SE
Well done, really nice a-b comparison. I own a couple of harley benton, big brand guitars and have built some on my own. The HB vintage series has the exact body shape like jhs vintage guitars. I assume they come from the same factory in china. And these guys know their business well. In this respect, the value-add of the big brand certainly does not justify the enormous price difference. And Soundwise ... , the Roswell Pickups may lack a bit of clarity due to their S/N ratio. Some may call this muddyness. With overdriven single tone lines this won't count at all. But in other situations you may lack a bit tone separation. An upgrade to e.g. Seymour Duncan SH1 might be a godd choice if you go for that rather modern PAF sound (AlNiCo V), and it doen't cost a fortune at all. With then 350 - 360 EUR it is still a bargain compared to the Gibson price tag. Never-the-less, branding and labeling are huge factors. I know some educated players that will never use an HB on stage despite appreciating their quality for one simple reason. They don't want to be labeled as a "beginner". I guess, that's the true reason why big brands can sell at this price point.
Neck HB Middle Gibson Bridge Gibson Personally But, HB, what a sound for the price though 👌 Probably easier to play, & definitely more versatile than the Gibson This would sound the same as the older custom model, might try & 1 of the last if the stock on that Cheers dude
Sorry, I just deleted your other comment by mistake! Yeah, I know that it could anoying for some people. 🤣 I’m sorry, man! I promise to pay more atention next time! 🤘
I think HB it’s not better but it sounds really good. I think it’s a good choice for someone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money. Thanks for your comment! 🤘
Although i do not like the Roswell pickups on my SC-custom the HB sounded better than the Crapson, once again Gibson sells a brand name, not good premium guitars... Its kinda like Audi, you pay more for the brand & "image" even though you are driving a normal Volkswagen!!
I've starting 'tinkering' with Reaper and needed a bass, so picked up one of these before Christmas, the build quality is incredible: www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_bt_70vs.htm
all the comments of the Gibson being a bit "darker" or "fuller"or "thicker"....... buy a Boss GE-7..... and the HB becomes whatever you want it to tonally... for a ton less $$$$
I think that HB gives you much more for every euro (or dollar) paid than an excesively expensive gibson... Yea.. here you basically pay for the name. Maybe an expensive gibson or a fender has a more durable components as the machine heads, potentiometers, nut, bridge... but anyway.... 1000 vs 200... come on. With the money that you save buying a HB, you can upgrade it with the best of the best.

The HB is a great guitar with no doubt!! Thanks for the comment :)

HB sounds a little thin but still real good .
The thing is how will the HB sound in 10 years , will it have fallen apart. ?

Yeah, it’s a good guitar. I think you won’t regret it. Let me know you’re feedback than. 🤘
I'd be happy with either guitar. HB are getting better all the time. An indictment of Gibson, possibly
Yes, it’s true. Thanks for your comment 🤘
I liked the Gibson sound better. This video makes want a Harley Benton SC Custom and swap out the pickups.
You are right. This would be real comparison if both guitar have the same pick ups. The difference we hear comes from the pick ups 90%.

Thanks for your opinion! 🙏👊
Distribution from computer speakers eh?
no discernible difference in the sound imho. Just goes to show, most of the time, it's the amp that gives you the sound.
I agree, the amp has a lot of influence on the sound.
The G is more subdued and fuller sounding but it's also 4x the price and then some lol.Go Hb!
It’s true. HB sounds really great. I think no one’s going to get disappointed buying one. Thanks for your comment! 🤘
