I'm aware that I'm 10 months 'late' to respond to your post but here goes anyway...admittedly, I've never been much of a true "Top 40 pop music" fan for the most part (I grew up loving Kraftwerk, New Order/Joy Division, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Pet Shop Boys, The Stone Roses - most of whom occasionally flirted with the charts but aren't/weren't conventional chart-toppers either) & as she's gotten older, she's certainly not done so gracefully of late, that's for sure...but only a complete nutter wouldn't say that she's not one of the most successful (even if not "one of the best", which is far more subjective) musical artists of all time, especially amongst female soloists, where she was, & probably still is the greatest of all-time, IMO...anyway, cheers & best wishes from sunny 'Down Under', my friend! As a ten year old in '85 I was dying for a 12" of this track, but there wasn't one. When YOU CAN DANCE was released in '87 with this mix on it, I was knocked on my ass! I'm pretty certain that was the first time in my life I ever blew a load! Seriously.
Yeah some years ago i think i spent about $20 on a copy of the promo vinyl. Never had an official release, really strange especially because the song is about um dancing you'd think the 12" mix would be more common. Though yeah I suppose it's been officially released on you can dance, not on its own, and it's already mixed on there iirc Fortunately not a problem anymore with everything ever made on UA-cam but still rather strange

According to the You Can Dance CD booklet it was engineer Andy Wallace that did the piano break. Apparently the others listening to it were dancing going nuts over it

This remix is awesome. When Rolling Stone mag released in 2021 it’s updated 500 Greatest Songs of All Time-three Madonna classics were in it: #55-Like A Prayer; #139-Vogue; and #161-Into The Groove. Appreciate this wonderful video.
This album came out the same year I left school. I remember listening to this song every day as I got dressed, its basically the studio version of the into the groove that's sung on the Whose that girl world tour. So good after all these years I still listen to it now.
You can't beat a Shep Pettibone remix, The mix's they do today can't compare, Dj's were mixing two 12" remixes back in the day..This is what I miss about back them, you'd be on the floor for half an hour lol
