Wonderful video, Mike. You always seem to be able to explain so clearly. I knew the terms before but because you explained it well it makes sense. Everyone one on my side is doing well. I wish the same for you and your family. Stay safe and sane.

Thanks very much, I really appreciate your kind words! These older terms do seem weird and to younger photographers, they will probably wonder what they are and why they're called that. 😁👍

Hi Mike, subscribed to your channel a while ago and spent lockdown binge watching your vids. Only recently started to dip my toe in the world of editing and always wondered what dodge and burn meant, now I know thanks.

Appreciate the graphical illustration, Mike! Seldom shown for this topic on YT. I did my own (hobbyist) dodge & burn myself in makeshift darkroom. Hate to be nit-picky (but have to be consistent😁) - classical burning involved selectively passing light from the enlarger thru the negative onto the paper (generally by using a makeshift mask). The vid burning illustration, however, shows extra light from a “torch” falling onto the paper without having gone thru the negative. More like intense “schorching” that would darken the target without negative tonality. Wonder if other comments will chime in on this.

I was wondering who would pick up on that...🤔
My very limited After Effects animation skills wouldn't stretch as far as to be able to illustrate that properly...so I did a crude representation of the process...but you're right...that's definitely more of a scorching than a burn...

Wooow look at that studio ...we literally see the transformation per video released. Nicely done. Great quick explainer video as well. Can you cover your studio set up?

Haha!! It is a work in progress...studio setup will be coming soon...if only flights were up and running, then we could get Gerald Undone to fly over for a studio tour!! 😆😆😆
