- The redevelopment of the Jordan Downs Housing Development in Watts has begun! We are doubling the amount of housing from 700-units to 1,400 units without displacing any of the current residents. We are creating 115,000 square feet of retail, extending Century Boulevard through the development, adding park space, and a 50,000 squre foot community center!
KEYWORD: no displaced residence. The brothas in jordan downs need to make the most of this effort and go to the city explaining that they want job training programs for their youth

WAIT until the REAL costs of construction ( with over runs) comes out!! Then we will SEE if Buscaino can TALK his way out that!! SOME TAXPAYERS are GOING to GET a BIGGER BILL than Buscaino WANTS to say; or he WILL figure out how to bury those costs in some other form of taxation!! ( Grants are ALSO taxpayer money!! Some other groups budget IS getting a haircut)

I'm glad to see this actually come to fruition. So many "promises" have been broken. Let's just see if they can keep their promise. Creating a good neighborhood can happen without gentrification. First, make sure that the residents of Jordan Downs have a right to return. Secondly, make sure that most of the businesses in that community are Mom-and-Pop/locally owned and locally employed businesses. Not a lot of chain businesses. Prioritize those who really need housing, versus those where, say, priced out of West Los Angeles. It's important for black folks also, to own their own homes.
No one is being displaced! Jobs are opening up on the construction sites and 60 Residents was employed on the first phase. which i am the Local hire Administrator for the first Phase.
