IN this video I was actually using the Lews Speed Spool 8 gear ratio. I have been using mostly Lews the past 4 years on my baitcaster but will be making a switch coming up.
You should have went below wheeler damn or Wilson damn down the road for them big small mouth either tailrace on Wilson lake or on Pickwick Lake at McFarland best smallmouth action nice video an some nice catches , right now below Wilson dam 25+ lb sacks smallmouth an largemouth
Your Ultrex steering cable laying across your graph like that doesn't bother you? I ask only because I'm dealing with the same issue after installing the ultrex. Need to figure out how to wrestle the cables into a better position. Hopefully without damage.
Both, I normally always use the blades...maybe a few times in ultra clear water with non aggressive fish I have tried with no blades at times but rarely.
whats your rod, reel, lines setup in this video? I'm no expert but id try going deeper...and where you are snagging, id throw a light bait and let it sit...good luck.
@@jakeorr23 Yes it is as a swimbait rod primarily, most Dobyns are sensitive, but for an a-rig you need more backbone and length for casting heavy baits and absorbing the aggressive strikes more than anything, just my opinion
@@jakeorr23 Are you referring to the Extasy line? If so, I do not, I have experience with the Champion series mostly and do own a Champ Extreme 745 which I love. To me for the money it is hard to beat the Champion series. I own many other rods from different companies and I have yet to find something that I like better in that price range.
SO I am just reeling down to it with the rod and pulling slightly.....I ended up going back there before I left and lost 2 rigs where this day I was able to get all of them back. It is tough fishing it around rocks....lots to go wrong
So the A rig is great year round. I look for what the fish are feeding on. So in the spring it is a great choose for smallmouth when they are up shallow pre spawn conditions. The summer I use it for schooling smallmouth and the fall is great for both largemout and smallies when they are chasing bait. Clear water certainly helps as well.
You where fishing the wrong Dam for Smallmouth Bass... You need to fish below Wheeler Dam for the Great Smallmouth Bass fishing. You fish the water between wheeler dam and Wilson dam… There are also smallmouth from Decatur to the west end, especially from Elk River down to wheeler dam. First and Second Creek and Shoal Creek... Great Smallmouth Bass Fishing in Alabama... You can catch 50 to 100 per day most days...
I watched all of 3:50 minutes of this video before stopping to comment. To all my fellow anglers....please stop treating our precious commodities like a piece of trash and throwing them overboard like a piece of trash....Travis...if you you can bend over to pick up a rod you can bend over to put a fish back in the water without the attitude and disdain just because its small. I've been an avid follower and learned a bunch, which i sincerely appreciate.....gotta call b.s on this kind of treatment though. Just my 2 cents...
Doesn't hurt the fish at all ??? Glad you are an expert on that.....how about we just agree to disagree on that. As for the "bitching" comment, not sure that commenting on something from my viewpoint constitutes bitching. We can all learn from each other and conversation/sharing of thoughts or viewpoints us good start. Just my opinion...
Always enjoy your video's ,thanks
Thanks James!
Great video Travis, area looks great.
Yes Rich it was a cool place!
looks like an old boat ramp that they tore out... makes a spot in the river off the bank, good to find, should hold fish all the time...
Good luck in the tournament...
Thanks Phillip

Hello again Travis..... I know that you are a Shamnio guy and was wondering what reel and what ratio you were using..... thanks

Best bait there is....always catches fish and usually Bigun’s!
I need to fish my A rig in a place like that to get some confidence in it. That seems like a Wing dam that your fishing too.
Yes sir!

It does....just got to move it out of the way. I am sure there is a better way I just haven't had time to explore
Do you use the bladed rig in sunny conditions or cloudy?
Both, I normally always use the blades...maybe a few times in ultra clear water with non aggressive fish I have tried with no blades at times but rarely.
What kind of rod are you using??? Sorry if you mentioned it and I missed it...
Dobyns Dc 795 SB

Kyle Foresman are they pretty sensitive

Kyle Foresman thank you sir. Do you have any experience with the new line of high end rods that dobyns offers

I appreciate your comment.....I honestly don't think about it when I am doing it. Certainly not ever trying to be extra aggressive with a fish.
Lol quit bitching. It doesn’t hurt the fish at all and that is much better than hitting a frying pan
