Awesome video and insight! Colin Greenwood is probably my favorite bassist and I don't say that lightly. He's incredibly underrated. You do a great job of describing why he's got such a great style. Thank you!
Paul's point on him appearing and doing the right things at the right time is spot on. He's INCREDIBLY 'un-motoric', 'slow' player, yet so innovative in the same time.
I'm "old school" (Jamerson, George Porter Jr. with the Meters, Billy Cox , etc), but I like this guy! He knows Space. Thank you for spotlighting this Bass player.!
HOLY CRAP, YOU ACTUALLY DID IT!!!. Paul, I want to say thank you for all your hard work. Since I became a Radiohead fan recently, I've wanted you to do this video. It is one of your most detailed Bass Habits videos, and I can't imagine how tough it was to narrow down examples. I will be rewatching this one for sure!
Honestly I was a Radiohead fan for a very long time before I paid any attention to the bass, unless it was very obvious like on Nude for example. I feel like the most legendary songs have basslines that you don't necessarily pay attention to as an average listener, but that's because it's so perfectly crafted and played so that it becomes a part of the song and lifts the entire song to another level. Dancing Queen by ABBA is another example of a song that has an amazing bass part, but I didn't really notice it until someone pointed it out to me.
Great video, dude!! Been a Radiohead fan for over a decade, and watching your explanations detailing the importance of Colin's role to their tracks is very well done 😊
True. He wrote the bass line when he was 16, way before Pablo Honey. And on the Ok Computer mini disc leaks the band had a more rock version of the song.
Fantastic! Thanks Paul. Radiohead is always pushing the bounds of rock/alternative music and it's cool to see how the bass plays a role in that. Every bass player can pick up something from someone. This is such a good series! Speaking of which, I would like to recommend a Bass Habits on David J of Love and Rockets, I love his creative bass lines and how he uses the fretless bass.
Nice video and insight! I know they're not as well known globally, but I think Stuart Morrows bass habits on the first 2 New Model Army albums would make a great video in this series. NMA in the early days was basically a Power Trio with Stuart taking on traditional bass duties, with melodic and rythymic flare across the entire neck.
Love your series, you have touched on many iconic bands that I've loved over the years. Have you ever thought about Lucas Harwood from King Gizzard? Some interesting stuff including microtonal bass!

5:52 the bass riff of "The National Anthem" was written and performed by Thom Yorke

I love your channel and what you’re doing for the bass guitar community

Thank you! Been looking forward to this one and it didn't disappoint. Keep up the great work, each one of these episodes is brilliant.
Excellent insight once again Mr bello

One of the best electric bass channels out there.
For The National Anthem, it's actually Thom playing bass on the record with a pick. Besides that, fantastic vid!

👏👏👏 and Bauhaus of course. Where would She's in Parties be without that quite simple but incredibly hypnotic bass line?

These videos are fascinating. Thank you, Paul, from North Carolina! Dont stop a-Rockin! ❤
Ho sempre amato le linee di basso dei radiohead. Top

He did really nice playing in Jigsaw falling into place .
Mark O’Toole from Frankie Goes To Hollywood! A super underrated bassist!
great video!
could you make one of Chris Slorach (METZ) or Cameron Picton (black midi)?
Love these videos, I would love to know more about the bass player for CAKE I know they’ve had a few but an overall analysis would be great, thanks.
Please do Stuart Zender from Jamiroquai. Love this series.
Can you do "How to play like Jesse F. Keeler of Death From Above 1979"?
Would be awesome. Loving this series so far.
This is great. You should do a video on Mat Osman - Suede! Doesn't get the stand out praise he deserves
Btw, stand out praise to you Paul 💙 really enjoying your channel 👏👏👏
Great video. Can you maybe do a video on Nikolai Fraiture from the Strokes?
This might be a weird suggestion but it would be awesome if you would do Johnny Greenwood's bass playing with The Smile and Junun.
National Anthem was Yorke.
Troy sanders video would be awesome
Hwo do u play like John deacon
