The sense of orchestration Biber had always leave me speechless. The earliest proper modern orchestra is usually considered the one the Duke of Mantua assembled for the first performance of Monteverdi's "L'Orfeo", which had been commissioned by the Duke himself, and yet just half a Century after Biber yet had a perfect grasp on how to use the different families of instruments, just like in a 19th Century "romantic" symphony orchestra.
