The committee chair is responsible for scheduling the sessions, and it's an age-old trick to deliberately schedule conflicts where Senators have to be in two (or three) places at once. It's part of a wider effort to put on a show for the extreme conservatives. They've moved to almost exclusively demonizing the left instead of at least attempting to look rational to anyone outside of their "devoted" followers. Either they don't see the long term implications (another civil war) or they just don't care about anything except short term gain.

The committee chair is responsible for scheduling the sessions, and it's an age-old trick to deliberately schedule conflicts where Senators have to be in two (or three) places at once. Did you ever consider maybe the ones who haven’t spoken expected to speak today and that they might have been in another meeting and couldn’t speak previously? American elected officials whether in the majority or minority must work together to honor the Constitution.
