I have the Mk1 706. That and my Yaesu 897D are my two main radios, and I love them; don't need anything much else, except my only nod to digital, a C4 fusion FTM-7250D. I really do enjoy your videos!
I can tell you from personal experience the Toyota Prado is an excellent vehicle. I spend most of my working life driving these around the Australian outback, they never go wrong. The only thing that's ever failed is headlamp bulbs.
Can't beat some proper cooking when you're camping. I've no idea why people think they've got to slum it with cans of all day breakfast and lacklustre burgers. I like that tent! I've got a little 2p Vango, but I have to sit cross legged on the floor and slump a bit to play with the radio.
Things just have to be organized. Dont worry Carl your not alone with that. I have purchased that very same 20m antenna. Gonna try it out this weekend. Another great vid. Cheers 🙂

For your next vehicle you should look at a Mitsubishi Delica, L400 early 2000 model. Extremely capable 4X4, but in 7/8 seater MPV style, Whip the rear seats out and you can make a very compact camper, with bed :) I'm just planning a layout for my Radio Waggon :) for 4 season use, inc heater. My plan is to use a Radio with removable head so I can use whilst driving, then unplug for use out of the vehicle.
Icom 7100! Mount it in the vehicle fixed with antennas wired up, then the remote head is just one long cable to throw to the front, rear, tent, canopy, park bench, etc.
I bought an awning for my jeep and hoping to setup up under that this summer. I made some sides for it to close it in to provide a wind break. It came with one side but I wanted all sides closed in to sleep like your thinking of doing. Very nice Carl you will get this vehicle all setup I'm sure 73s Don
In my 110 i have 2 x 110ah batteries via a split charge system. One 50amp anderson socket by the rear seats and externally, one socket front and rear. An extension lead into the tent into a ciggie socket and 2xusb sockets provides power for charging phones etc. Forgot to add, my FT857 also has anderson plug so i can plug in for power in either socket. Good luck
Interesting how you extend the mast before erecting it. I attach mine to my stand or a post if available. then attach the wire to the top, then extend the mast sections one by one. I usually run as an inverted vee with the centre of the wire at the top of the mast.
Mate, you need a tent which has a floor incorporated in it to stop the rising damp!!!!! Nice video and scenery. Sorry mate, but confirms why I no longer go camping.
Hi Carl I also have a mk1 706. Have you got a remote head connection cable? I would get two....One for the vehicle - radio in box....Remote head where you need it. 2nd cable in box with radio for when you are in tent etc. 73 m0tfy
It came to the point where I either invested loads into the LR or cut my losses and try a vehicle that hopefully spends less time in the garage. The chassis was going to need more work and that means paying someone

I'd need a floor in that tepee/tent if I was POTA, you always got the car as a great back up though 🙂
