@@xslsd This song holds a lot of meaning to Ronnie Van Zant's daughter. And since she's married to the guitarist of Shinedown, it was chosen for a special reason beyond just covering a song because the band liked the original. Having their little girl in the video holding up a picture of her grandfather (Ronnie) means more than just a kid in a video holding up some random picture of someone too. So it's more than just a cover to me. To each their own.

I grew up with Brent, the lead singer.. he had that voice in 7th grade
In my opinion Brent Smith (Lead Singer) is one of the all time greatest singers/vocalist in human history. Shinedown has so many great tracks it's a must to do a deep dive into Shinedown.

not many can cover an original and make their own and still pay such homage to the original band but Shinedown has nailed this one! I have both on my play list to this day
the lead singer is Brent Smith, he has an incredible voice. Shinedown has some amazing songs, please check out some of their other music 45, Enemies, Bully, Monster, and others. Lynyrd Skynyrd is the original singer. From what I read the little girl is the guitarist's daughter and the picture is of Ronnie Van Zant and a member of Lynyrd Skynrd.

Brent Smith definitely has some pipes on him. I recommend “Monsters,” “Heroes,” “Outcast,” “DEVIL,” “Fly from the Inside,” “How Did You Love” and “Atlas Falls.”

Brent Smith has a voice very few possess. I had the opportunity to see him do a rooftop acoustic performance, and his voice hit like nothing I've ever heard in that environment.

So the band grew up in the same town as Lynyrd Skynyrd, the original band, and they got their start in the bar owned by Ronnie van zants wife, the original lead guitarist was also married to ronnies daughter. In the video the little girl is the granddaughter and she’s holding a pic of her grandpa, the hat the guitarist is wearing was also ronnies. After the lead guitarist left the band, shinedown didn’t preform the song for a long time but eventually they decided that they would give the fans what they wanted and I’ve seen the 3 times and every time they start thuu it s song the crowd goes wild. Shinedown is amazing, the lead singer and guitarist also have an acoustic side project Cale Zach and Meyers where they do acoustic covers and recently had some acoustic originals also. Brent smith also does a song with apocalyptica called not strong enough, it’s amazing!! But if you decide to listen to it, make sure you get the version with Brent smith on vocals because the other version isn’t nearly as good.
Brent Smith is no joke. He's one of those singers that actually sounds better live than he does on an album. But Shinedown has been my favorite band for many years now...definitely check out their catalog, literally everything they've ever made is pure gold.
They are both great but the amount of emotion that Brent Smith brings to this song melts my soul Everytime I hear it!

Shinedown has made sure that Ronnie Van Zants widow gets the royalties from them preforming this song. Also Brent Smith the founder of Shinedown has an absolutely amazing voice, he can sing anything. I highly recommend that if you haven’t listened to Shinedown please do they are the complete package. The little girl is Ronnie Van Zants granddaughter.

I agree, gotta go for Lynyrd Skynyrd for the respect, however this is such a great remake of the song. I saw Shine Down live and they are more my music, where Lynyrd Skynyrd is my mom’s and aunt’s music. But that’s how I grew to love the classics and love today’s rock too!

This was the song I chose for me and my mom to dance to at my wedding. Being a long time Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, I wanted this song, but went with this version. I wanted it different and this nailed it.

Both Bands are from here in Jacksonville Fl, Shinedown did an absolute brilliant job covering this song and the only people right to do it with the connections from marriage to same city. I personally prefer this version to over the original with no disrespect to Ronnie.
I have always been a huge fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd and this is my favorite song of theirs but after Shinedown came and played for us in Iraq honestly i think I have to take Shinedown but what i love the most is they kept it true to the original but they bumped up the fuel on the heavy notes and connected a classic to a generation 30 years later.

I came from a Classic Rock playing home but Shinedown just put so much so in it and wins it hands down for me. Lynyrd has lots of good songs.

This is my favorite rock band to see live.. I actually saw them again this passed Monday. Brent Smith is album quality live. This song brings down the house when they do it live. Goosebumps every single time. And All the suggestions are great but something I'll suggest is the side project work of Smith and Myers. They do a lot of covers. Their cover of unchained melody is beautiful.
