What AV do you use and which do you dislike the most?
I use Windows defender
I use either Emsisoft or Eset and I cannot stand Norton or McAfee, both are resource hogs and don't catch anything until you scan using a different utility. Then all of a sudden Norton and McAfee say, "Hey guys, look I found a virus! I'm doing my job now!"....seriously...smh
I use bitdefender as AV and malwarbytes plugin on my browser
The one i dislike the most is Kaspersky
I use ESET Smart Security Premium
I have been using Trend Micro Maximum Security since 2018 now shifting to Eset Premium Security on your suggestion. Bit confused between Eset & Kaspersky. The price difference between both of them in my country is huge. Eset Premium costs 1.7 times of Kaspersky Premium
All of the AV evaluations on UA-cam are sponsored by an internet security company being tested so it adds a level of mistrust on my part. also so many reviewers seem to be using the exact same graphics when doing reviews which also raise a flag in my suspicious mind. I know you are running a business, but it lowers the trust worthy score to some degree regardless of who is doing the review. I do think you seem honest but... I have had zero viruses in over a decade because of my mistrust.
I think everyone should be as critical as you are. Smarter and less trusting users would make the internet a whole lot safer.

Sir did not ESET failed in one of the video-test of PC Security Channnel and he said in his tier list video that ESET is still an improvement over Windows Defender and he placed it in B Tier while Windows Defender was in C Tier.
Yeah but his test was done with most of the features turned off and then blasted the engine with hundreds of samples at the same time. ESET is not designed to use all system resources and possibly crash the system. If you leave ESET features on he wouldnt be able to even run the script that executes the malware.

What are your thoughts on AV-Comparatives and AV-Test websites? I've been a Norton user since the 1980s, and periodically review other options. It seems to be in a tier with all the other top brands consistently, and all of them miss detection at some point. At the same time, I was interested in ESET from things I've heard recently, but it doesn't seem to be as robust in testing as other top tier brands like Norton, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, etc.
Great question. I like AV test websites when they do realistic test. Most of them test ESET but only it's engine and see how it does post execution. This isn't realistic because ESET takes a pre-execution approach so rather than Ransomeware rollback it intercept the encryption. Rather than locking down part of the post execution it intercepts the task call. It utilizes machine learning, intrusion detection, and features such as live grid to prevent execution. To perform the tests where you execute 200 Malware at the same time the tester must disable 75% of ESET's security to just get the test to run. I'm in a discord group of fellow IT UA-camrs and Malware researchers and the biggest pain in testing ESET was that it stopped the test before we could try to infect it. We also test a ton of network attacks and hacks.... Almost always intercepted by it's IDS system and HIPS.

Thank you for reviewing and providing this and I agree Trend micro use to be good, and like you say Malwarebytes great for removal. never been a fan of Norton or McAfee the fact it comes pre installed opens you up to Zero day vulnerabilities, and i have worked on many computers that had issues and had the AV programs

NICO you are DEAD on!! ESET is the absolute best AV. We have used it for years on all Enterprise accounts. About 700 @ this point. We control all Clients updates, deployment and scanning VIA the ESET portal. Best of all it has very low payload. Not sure I would put NORTON anywhere near the top, IMO. They are still a bloatware PIG. Awards? Sure, paid awards, wink, wink... Great stuff NICO!!

I have been using Kaspersky for years and have been pretty happy with it, except that it wont let me turn of the VPN requests. Naturally because of politics they are taking a beating. Congress is talking about banning them in the US so I might have to go to ESET. By the way Scott referred me to your channel.
Fun fact outside of F-Secure, as a person who has 11 devices that need an Antivirus, I've used all of the S-Tier and A-Tier on the list.

I run ESET and it seems to work well. Used to run Norton but their pricing philosophy drove me away
Until that I run Mullvad vpn and NextDNS and Malwarebytes premium to made my computers hopefully work.

B Tier.
It is good on signatures and reputation but not great on post execution, network attack, Ransomeware, etc. Desent anti phish but the A tier and S tier are superior.

Hey Steve. Totally feel ya. To be honest I gotta say that while Ultimate is nice and shiny, not everyone needs it. Most users would be more than happy and totally secure with Essential. ESET is actually cheaper than Norton, McAfee and competitive with Kaspersky and Bitdefender.
@@NicoKnowsTech Hey Nico thanks for your answer. TBH I need Ultimate as I need 5 machines cover, but dont need the VPN as I already have one. I`d like ESET to offer differrent options maybe a `with VPN` and a `without VPN`, but it is what it is. I do want to get covered though, so though Im just going to have to bite the bullet and go for Ultimate I guess. I just hope I can turn their VPN off. @@stevejarvis186 the VPN is a separate app so yes you can choose to use it or not. You can also give it to friends and family members through the ESET Home page.
I have a better solution for you. Choose ESET Home Premium but click the + sign to add more devices before adding to cart or checking out. Ultimate just comes with more to start with.

Depends. If you are adventurous and go searching for software in places other than the major sources: Microsoft, Steam, Adobe, etc. then you may want something more hardened to more complex threats.
Again no nanoantivirus (with license to be used in a working environment for free) in the comparison list? Webroot has to be the worst to uninstall . Keeps up in worstness with Norton. After using 3rd party uninstallers, managed to delete program data leftovers and program files. Talked 3 timed with the tech support afterwwards and used their removal utilities nut still remnants in registry.
Nano-AV has a small market share of 50,000 users. Despite the fact that I think it is impressive, it wouldn't be a well-performing video on a platform such as UA-cam at least on this channel. I will keep an eye on it.
@@NicoKnowsTech Having a small share doesn t say anything at all. Xiaomi had a small share in mobile pie somewhere in time and look at her now. What it matters for an A/V is the detection rate. You could rate it yourself. I was an Avira (for a/v) and comodo (firewall) user for over 10+ years. Avira 's advertisements and add-ons made me look for another A/V and nano filled that gap. Also comodo started adding services without notifying the user and Maleware Byte's Windows Firewall Control did the click to me. I found this combo pretty satisfying and I am not a plain user. i m in IT industry 20+ years.

As a current Norton subscriber (not renewing) I trust nothing you say after your appraisal of the product. It's been like having a needy spam virus on my machine always vying for my wallets attention. Your drastic change in opinion from just one article is super weird and suspicious.
Yeah, I don't really care for Norton to be honest. Was basing it solely on recent tests. I expect in 6 months Norton will return to obscurity.

WTF i hate norton it is always poping up everything and never leaving me alone and is so annoying i want it to just do its stuff and go away but it wont even when i tell it to it is garbage cash grab feels like one of those free to play games with all the pop ups

@@NicoKnowsTech Much better. Personaly i had Eset 6 years. Is good but poor on ransomware. I had also avast avg also but short time. Avira is also good much more false positives. Bitdefender a huge pc resources much more comparing in real time on same machine but perfect for removal viruses. And kaspersky is much better than others and also better and quick reaction on threads and lighter also. So clear winner. Kaspersky is from 927 tests/ review on TOP 3 in 84% also first places 680x. Bitdefender 430x, Avast 276x, Eset 260x, Trend Micro 247x, Avira 231x, AVG 191x, GData 171x, and there mc afee and other american crap. Also look at AV-comparatives tests. SE Labs antimlaware winner is Kaspersky. Kaspersky said year 2023 was record of awards :)
@mptraxx5317 interesting take on ESET. In our tests the Ransomeware shield was super effective unless the user disables ESET to run something they think is legit.
@@NicoKnowsTech His best times are long behind him. Také a kaspersky for test 🙂. If you see web malwaretips there many users of av. He never let a virus into the computer. He saved me many times. Behavioral and heurestic is superb also with cloud detection and system watcher no ransomware doesn't have a chance. Eset was good in version 3 (2007-2008 year maybe).
