I think that Desmond didn't know he could defeat the voice at first,.. taking the dagger and moving it to his throat was involuntary, but he overcame it at the end. I think I see that in Travis Fimmel's expressions through the scene. Wonderful performance! He's a being that has been conditioned to resist these things, but until tested, he doesn't know if he will succeed (it's not like his makers have a spare Bene Gesseret Reverend Mother to hand when doing their prototype testing!).
Also, I think that like he isn't knowingly deceiving the truthsaying earlier. His conditioning is to believe, and he just believes (as both BGs say). The problem is that the BGs don't ask the right questions,.. like in many shows where doing that would kill the story, For example, questions asked of the Aes Sedai in Wheel of time, which always seem to fortuitously permit a true but duplicitous response!. It's the whole Spice Agony Wheel of Fortune Vague Mom call plot device again (respect for that lovely Abu rant!!).

How does Valya know Desmond has a blade in the final scene (he never once showed it)
She'd look pretty silly if he said, "I'm sorry Reverend Mother, I only have this banana,... can you work with that?"

His body language gave him away as he entered the room. Opened his arms welcomingly, then slowly stepped forward, shook his arms oddly like he does that all the time, then placed his hands into his pockets abnormally. If you think about it for a second, most people just put their hands in their pockets normally, but maybe he was nervous maybe it's just the actor giving the viewer the answer to his question.
Or it could be that since his attire and profession are that of a soldier, she could have reasonably assumed he was armed. Maybe the way his hands were positioned in his coat? A lot can be guessed at but I'm sorta glad they didn't try to explain it.

@@Unworshipediety My best guess is that in the world of Dune, everybody carries blades (because of the existance of the shields). It's like underwear for us (yes I see you "commandos" out there, but you aint us, you're abominations)

Does the suspensor prison cell also suspend bodily functions?
Because, if not, that's gonna be one stinky-ass meeting between Desmond and the Emperor/Empress later!

How did he act across the galaxy,.. the tech has a trigger containing entangled particles. If one flips, so does the other, instantaneoulsy, regardless of distance. (and yes, I know entangled particles can't be "controlled" like this because information cannot be transfered faster than light, but,..deez writers ain't afeared of angry physics nerds and flying pocket protectors!!)

Could be some form of nanotech and if so, I think there may be a plant in the Sisterhood's ranks on Wallach IX. That theory may relate and apply to the Bene Tlelaxiu if Hart and his accomplice are Gholas or Face Dancers in service possibly to Ixians... Complicated maybe, but I'm thinking of the wheels within wheels within plans and plots of Duniverse politics and Hart's line in ep 1 about some in the Imperium questioning the abandonment of machines, as a rushed judgment in the wake of the Butlerian Jihad. And before you ask, Quinn isn't the only Dune fan who sussed it out... The clues in the dialogue and what Hart did, I followed carefully and it suddenly became apparent after watching "The Hidden Hand" a couple more times. As well Acolyte Jen in "Two Wolves" by her oblique comment on the nature of "Sisterhood above all, but not Sisters . . ", well, that makes her #1 on the suspect list for Hart's co-conspirator on Wallach IX.

I think your take on this show abu is just a product of today’s world of impatience. Two episodes into a show you’re saying it’s not loving enough. That’s unrealistic expectation. Sure some great shows like arcane pull that off. But not everything is as well made as arcane. I just think k this is a lazy way of saying you don’t like the show. You podcast folks just do t have time for a show to move at a medium or slower pace. Which is just shocking. The way we as a tv show watching culture have become so impatient is just tragic. By your words I think k you’d be a great employee of Netflix who immediately cancels any show that doesn’t hit them within the first five minutes of an episode. Just go back and listen to your complaints. They are u readable and irrational for a show that’s 2 hours into its first season. Is there knowledge out there that says this is the only season? I don’t think so. But because of people like you and most other podcasters there is a good chance we don’t get a second season because of lazy lazy lazy complaints like “I’m not emotionally invested”. Come on. The other host said it perfect. He is having fun. Sure things are clunky at times, but it’s fun. Just a big time L take from someone I really like listening to.

Season 2 has not been greenlit and will very likely be contingent on the critical and commercial success of the first season. They have only 6 episodes to work with right now, to prove to HBO that the can make a hit show. It's not unrealistic to expect a show that is 1/3 of the way through it's season to hook me and be better.
It's also not my job to only praise the show and be dishonest about my thoughts and feelings. I'm not arrogant enough to think my opinion will sway the bigwigs at HBO.
You said it yourself: Arcane did better. Last of Us did better. Many shows have done better by the time they reach the 1/3 point of their first seasons. My opinion is that this show also needs to do better.
