this brings back so much memories no matter i'd probably have to show this around bringing them around again i miss this since then ooh even more of them
So glad this video exists. I'll be reading this story to a child tomorrow and was nervous when I saw the title. I didn't know how to pronounce it! Now, I feel much better.
My sister reads this story to her Kindergarten class. One of the topics she teaches them in the curriculum is about how each child's name is their first gift from their parents. This story is read to teach them that, no matter what, their name is their own and is special, like Chrysanthemum's name.
When I went to Pre-K, this was my favorite book. I was so afraid to go out and make friends, but when Mama reminded me that Chrysanthemum came through, I felt better. I no longer live with her and am now a high school senior, but this brings back good memories. Thank you.
I remember this when I was a kid... My sister-in-law's family all have unique names. I don't know why people would look down on such things, having a different name. Honestly, I'd prefer to give my children unique names so they don't feel like another Billy, Joe, or Jenna. That's how popular names evolve anyway. I liked the message this story gave about loving yourself, including your name. Only now as an adult is it more meaningful.
I feel the same way. I grew up with a name not used by anybody else I knew in person, and I feel that I should give my children unique names if I ever have any children.
Wow. I never knew how much sophisticated vocabulary was in this book. It's a book for little kids, but it doesn't try to dumb down the language. It doesn't insult anybody's intelligence.
When I was little I thought I had a plain ol' normal name that everyone had, but my spelling was different and I used my middle name, too. Now lots of people tell me that they love my name and it is a very pretty name. My little sister felt that she had a boys name and hated it. Now she likes her name. I have a huge list of names that I like that are different, because I like different names so much! All of my kids are going to have names that are a little different.
i remember reading this book in 3rd grade and it was my favorite! i was so determined that when i was older i was going to name my daughter chrysanthemum. deep down i still want to ;]
What kind of little kid uses the word "scarcely?" Seriously, though, I really liked this book when I was little. I think it teaches kids an important lesson about self-confidence.
I used to always read this book when I was younger. and then recently I found out that my middle name is a Japanese name and in english my Japanese's name means Chrysanthemum. What are the odds
It seems this book has been around for a while. I was not familiar with it but can't wait to check it out. Author Crystal Swain-Bates has created some books that I think kids will still be talking about many years from now. "Supermommy" which was just released is an awesome book and "Big Hair Don't Care" is also a good book with images of black kids but is a good book for kids of all races. Check them out
you have a great voice and you read this so well, this is my favorite childrens book, if you have more of kevin henkes books please read and upload them, i let my prek listen to them

My mom and dad read this to me all the time when I was little! I never liked my name growing up and still have problems with it!
If this becomes a cartoon video adaptation, I'd love to voice Victoria and Mrs. Twinkle
