This is interesting. In a piece as complicated in terms of speech rhythm like phrasing as Elektra it is perhaps a good idea to rehearse without the accompaniment for once, to be entirely dependent on the conductor's lead . However , it depends on how the singer learns the musical score and I can understand that if you have learned to listen out for certain instruments for cues it can be disconcerting. A good video clip.

An additional interesting thing though is that it was Rysanek whose pitch was often suspect!
