Sitting home with a glass of beer and watching videos like this (blasting through a great set of headphones, of course) is why I love UA-cam and it's posters. Thanks so much.
I wish Paul would bring the Rickenbacker for his Wings songs. The Hofner is cool and all but it's missing the boom that the Rickenbacker had for the Wings songs.
What a great version of the song! Classic Wings! However, he plays more furiously on the "Wings Over America" version. Still, I love seeing Paul blasting away on this incredibly wild violin-Bealtes-bass.
No, and I agree with others have said here - the Wings tracks need the Rick. I mentioned this somewhere else on UA-cam, but I think the Hofner is a little bit nostalgia and a lotta bit practicality. It's lighter, it's a shorter scale, it's just easier to play...and when you're pushing 71 you can't have that anvil weight around your neck and perform for 3 hours a night. I've played both...and it makes a huge difference.
@CobraJetCat I agree. I love the dry "thud" tone of the Ric for this tune. For most Wings songs now that I think of it. My set list additions would be Magneto & Titanium Man and Medicine Jar for nostalgia sake.
@SouthCoastMass Very well said. I totally agree. The horns in the 70's were a really nice touch. I noticed the missing bass-lines as well, but it's still great to see him play this song again live! Most of all I miss the pure, raw angry tone from Jimmy's SG during the solo...but this version surely holds it's own. Top notch players to say the least. Hopefully Paul will dust off his old Ric bass on their next tour .
Paul needs to ditch the Hofner for the Ric on the wings stuff IMO...Still great to see him doing "Letting Go " again. Now if he will only add "Monkberry Moon Delight" to the set it would be perfect! :)
Gotta have the Rick for this song!! The bass line really made this song & you really can't hear it w/ the Hofner..unless you are standing up against his amp.
The Ric bass is better for the old wings tunes. I miss it here. I also miss Joe English's drumming but Abe is a fine drummer and Joe will not be returning.
@irvan36mm I've never stood up against his amp, but I agree. The Rick is associated, sound and visuals, with this song. But I assume he does it to mix things up. It seems so many of the utube vids show the Hoffner, does he play the Rick that much lately?
It sounds like he was playing the Rick on Only Ma Ma Knows because it has that thunk and clunck sound as opposed to the wonky sound the Hoffner has however I think the Hoffner gives him more options in playing over, under, in between and on top of the lines where as the Rick doesn't. Speaking of bringing back Wing's tunes I really wished he would bring back Soily into the set but getting older especially in his 70s those screamers are just about out of his range much less playing a Rick. McCartney is already solidly established as rocks greatest vocalist IMHO with his ability to sing a beautiful melodic ballad then belt and scream out a rocker, only Paul Rodgers comes close.

One of Paul's most underrated compositions. This has such a '70s feel, but it also doesn't sound dated, which is some feat.
Saw him last weekend in Baltimore. He rocked! He freaking ROCKED!!!
heyy man.. i was at this concert (travelled from australia) and this was the most memorable, well played song of the night, in my opinion.
oooh how we let go that nite!
incredible coverage and sound, thanks a million!

At his age here the Ric is too heavy to haul around his neck. Hofner's weigh nothing....
@@whyyeseyec That's exactly what I was going to say.

Paul McCartney is completely awesome
FABulous, sounding great and looking fabulous. Thanks for posting love this song.
Good to hear from you - you know, I think it's time I watched the Wings "Rockshow" video/DVD again....
All kudos to the man! Great song.
This must have been written to himself.......Mother Nature look to what you've done........ Such a human being so divine!!!
Probably my favourite Macca song ever...!!
great video and sound-thanks for posting!
Paul rocks!

Considering his annual live dvd rate, it wouldn't hurt to man up and release the full Rockshow, all proper-like.

Ahh playing some more of his WINGS stuff.
@plarter by the way thanks, awesome sound!!
He never plays the Rick in concert anymore, too heavy to carry around for 3 hours. Wish he would bring it out for a couple of songs, though.
Well. I've tried Rick. It didn't weigh heavy at all. I think it's more down to the sound preferences
i was there 4 my birthday :)
great.

@ZenDriveSeven WELL SAID!!!!
I had so much fun at the show but the crowd was a little dull though. What a bummer.
Superr !!!!
@SouthCoastMass He has to play that song with a Rickenbacker bass!
@robkal56 I know that he's played the Rick on a few songs on his last couple of albums.

I was at this Miami show and the crowd was weak man. They barely made much noise.
+Macca1969 Me too.. agreed
+Macca1969 This song was a definite highlight on the night though
@beatleluva4eva me too :)
just can't think of a better way to celebrate, can you?
1976 Wings version far better

The Rick is missing...
RIGHT and PROPER Ricken weights just a little bit more than Hoffner
