I'm just getting ready to buy my first metal detector so thank you for your guidance. And just like you I often wonder if I'm normal for the things I like and enjoy. You enjoying standing under that tree raining leaves is more normal than what most people are chasing and considering "normal".
@@Sasquatch_123 hi there thanks very much for your comments. What detector are you going to buy? There is nothing quite like being out in the countryside and in all the elements, if this makes us weird, then so be it 😆
@@TheDukesOfDerbyshire not sure why my previous two replies didn't go through but I'm thinking of getting Vanquish 540 pro, it should be enough for what I need . But I'm also experiencing thoughts like " is this normal for a 39 yo woman to be walking in the fields with metal detector, digging in dirt and getting excited about old metal". Not the usual expected for my demographic group but I'm ready to embrace my true self and make my long time dream come true, no matter what others may think.
When I lived in the frozen depths of Ottawa in Canada, as a photographer, I LOVED being out in the snowy fields and forests in winter. It's a whole 'nother world that people who stay inside will never experience or appreciate. Who cares about the lack of treasure, Gareth, you were out doing what you love in beautiful scenery. Hard to ask for more.
Hi Neil, I love this comment and love the thought of Canada in winter time. In fact I have booked flights to Canada, myself, partner and daughter will be flying to Calgary in June, then spending 2 weeks driving round the Canadian Rockies. And as an outdoor enthusiast with a love for amazing scenery, I could not be more excited about this trip!! Thanks as always for tuning in, catch you on another one. G
There are so many people trying to do what you do on UA-cam, but your video editing, your B roll and the way you come across combine together perfectly, keep it up.
Hi Andy, thanks so much for watching and also for your awesome comments. Yes I notice all the other channels out there trying to replicate what I do, but some don't realise how much extra work it is. Each one of these videos, or projects as I call them takes me best part of 10 hours to create. It is hard work, but I enjoy doing it and in my own unique style (although not so unique anymore)
Can't fault your efforts & dedication G. Getting out there & cutting through the perma frost for our pleasure.! I was hoping you'd be greatly rewarded.!!What a terrifically edited video. Always appreciated. Bless 👊
Hey Nick thanks for watching mate, apologies on the slow reply. Takes me a good while to reply to everyone. Those were some awesome conditions, no reward, but I had a very very nice reward last Saturday which you will see in the next couple weeks. Hally New Year to you
I've grown up in the countryside. The cold doesn't phase me, but getting wet,- footed is annoying. I love winter, with the colours, frozen spiderwebs, the crunch underfoot. Great video. Happy Xmas to you Gareth & family
Hi mate, oh yes not pleasant trudging around all day with wet feet. Luckily I have a very expensive pair of boots which keep my feet bone dry, warm and comfortable all day. Thanks for tuning in and for supporting my channel through 2023, hope to see you in 2024. Sorry for the slow reply, takes me an eternity to reply to everyone. Have a great week. G
Brilliant watch. Love the bag seal and key lock plate thingy. Our lass said it's very normal to stand and have leaves falling all around, next time try to catch a few 😂 Beautiful winter setting 👍
Hi guys, thank you for the channel visit, this was an awesome video to make, I already forget how cold it was at the beginning of the morning. Standing under that tree in complete silence other than the fluttering leaves was pure bliss.. Thanks so much for watching. G
Hey Phil, Happy New Year, apologies for the slow reply, I am 3 weeks behind on replies to all my good viewers comments. I'll get there though. I wish you gold fortunes in 2024
Hi mate, that was a real pleasant experience standing under that tree. I bet I was there for about 20 minutes, checking my phone, filming stuff, detecting etc. A moment I won't forget. Thanks for watching, apologies for the slow reply. G
You are blessed with surroundings that help you to make the most amazing B-roll mate! You pull these together so well. You & Henry both click-baiting this weekend 😂 hope Mila is getting nice & excited! Love to you all x
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I noticed that too, definitely wasn't planned. I genuinely did not know what title to pick and that was the first thing that came to my head. There is amazing scenery everywhere mate if you look from the right angles 😉
Frozen ground is tuff. The worst is the mud when it starts to warm up. I always say you need to get out when you can. You just have to. Another beautifully produced video. Thanks for sharing.
Hi mate, thanks very much for your kind words. Yes, we have to take the chance we get, and this was my chance. Metal detecting comes with all the different weather conditions and climates, the joy of being out in the great outdoors. Thanks for watching. G
Hellooo thanks as always for you kind words and also for watching. That was a cold session!! Hope you and your family had a great Christmas and new year. G
Hi Stuart, thanks for tuning in and watching this one, I am pleased there are others out there who thrive in these conditions. Apologies for the slow reply, catch you on the next one. G
I'm a weirdo too then. Last month I was filming a vid for my UA-cam gardening channel at an old abbey. I felt so blessed because as I was walking towards the abbey the leaves off the trees started fluttering down around me. What a lovely moment and feeling that was!
Hi there, yes brilliant, I am pleased you experienced that same moment of nature that I did. In 42 years I don't recall ever standing under a tree with leaves silently falling from above, it was quite magical. Thanks for watching and thanks for your awesome comment
I try every time I get out to get out between 7:30 and 8:00 am. The earlier the better. Quiet less traffic. Peaceful. There’s some thin winter gloves you can get that I use. Keeps your hands very warm. Sometimes they sweat. And some winter boots. Makes a world of difference. Thanks for sharing.
Hi mate, yeah sooner you get out there, the sooner you get home. I usually take some Sealskinz gloves on days like this but I forgot them. Thermal lined, waterproof and can use touch screens with them: amzn.to/3O4ukIK Thanks for tuning in and hope to see you again. G
You’re welcome. I can understand about forgetting things. Lucky enough I keep all my stuff in a back pack. lol. Learned the hard way. But I use these right here.
Hi John, cheers mate, apologies for slow reply, I am behind on my replies. It was a cold one, but I thrive off those conditions. Hope you are well, catch you again soon. G
Hi there Amanda, haha I am a little bit bonkers, but yeah you are right, I actually love these conditions, they are awesome for making UA-cam films. Apologies for the slow reply, I am weeks and weeks behind at replying to all my lovely viewer comments. See you on the next one. PS Happy New Year
That place looks amazing, even more so in the winter.. I've done 3 hours today in a very sticky field, it was hard work. Managed to find a load of clay pipe, apart from that, i found one pre decimal. An 1873 Victoria penny.... thats it!!! When you find a little bit of silver it makes all the difference... hopefully i can get out again on Sunday.. Hope you can too. 😊
Hi mate, yeah the conditions were awesome, I love making films in those conditions, don't get to experience them very often. Hope you are having great success in the fields this year. Had my first great find at the weekend, a lovely George III shilling in pretty good condition. Catch ya later. G
@TheDukesOfDerbyshire Well done.. George 3rd shilling was the first shilling I ever found.. about a week into detecting.. I thought they'd be coming up all the time. I've only ever found one other lol.. I've not been detecting since before Christmas, too much going on and not had any spare time. Currently in South Africa on holiday. I've just got myself a full set of 2023 South African coins (only 5) but very happy about it.. I will get back to detecting as soon as I'm back.. I miss it so much. Its my one obsession. Good luck with yours 😀 Hope to see more soon 🙏
Hi mate, yes definitely cold and tough conditions to be out there, but amazing conditions for making a UA-cam film. Got to love the UK climate :) Thanks so much for watching. G
Hello, thanks very much for watching this video and for leaving me a comment. That was a cold session!! Hope to see you again on some of my 300 other metal detecting videos. Gareth
Hi Dave, apologies for the slow reply, been super busy and so far behind replying to all the comments. I think most people would pick frost over rain. Hope you had a great Christmas and new year. I hope to have my next episode done by this Friday, take it easy. G

Hi , what a glorious day to be out for a spot of detecting and for a few hours you did quite well , the detail on that bag seal is wonderful and i love the huge key escutcheon and a couple of other decent finds to , anyway hope all goes well with Santa and well done on another fine episode mate , best wishes and ATB Rob .

Hi Bobby, cheers mate, yeah the leaves silently fluttering to the ground was a real tranquil moment for me, I did not want to leave. I bet I was stood there for at least 25 minutes. Apologies for the slow reply, working my way through replying to everyone is an endless task. Hope you and your family had a Merry Christmas and happy new year. G
Another great vid Gareth - so well made & wonderfully filmed! Couldn't agree more - it's so good to be out in the countryside! Happy Christmas to you and the family!

Great video, enjoyed your adventure Gareth. Superb filming and editing again, great angles and story telling. Get you completely in the falling leaves , magical stuff.

Another great video today. Cold? That’s the season we are in. At least you can get outside for your hobby. I’m jealous! Hoping your weekend is a good one, and the upcoming holidays are great. Hello to Sarah and your lovely daughter. Hello and best wishes to your mom and dad for me. See you on the next. Cheers Gareth ❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🙂🙂🙂👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Hi mate, thanks as always for watching, apologies for the slow reply. I am very behind on my replied. I hope it has dried up down south, but I suspect not, wettest couple months on record I reckon
Hi Gareth. Brilliant video as always. What i will say though is try not to wear the thin rubber gloves you have on in such cold conditions. They do not let your skin breath and hold in the cold. I found this out myself after wearing them on a dig in early December myself. After i removed them and just wore cloth gloves my hands felt much warmer. Keep up the good work, and a huge Merry Christmas to yourself and your family.
Hi Brian, thanks for the recommendation. I was ill prepared on this day, I have much better gloves but forgot them at home like an idiot. A belated happy Christmas and happy new year, thanks for the support catch you again soon. G
Perfectly normal I’d say ,, watching your videos makes me smile just wish I could find the energy and motivation to get out there myself, not been in nearly a year funny how you can go from it being your life to not feeling it at all , maybe soon ay ,, hope you all enjoyed 🎅
Hi mate, I totally understand how you can "not feel it". I must admit there have been times like that for me in the last 12 months particularly. Especially since having a child, I find myself wanting to spend what little free time I get with her rather than being alone in a field. Its a weird one isn't it, just got to find the right balance and do what makes you happiest. Apologies for the slow reply, I am very behind on comments. G
Hi mate, you are absolutely right, the finds might of been sparse and a bit rubbish, but the treasure was been out there, clearing the mind and re-energising in that lovely cold weather, Apologies for the slow reply, I am running behind on replying to everyone. G
Gareth respect to you sir...But the last 25yrs i have spent on and of chasing the art but it never grows tiresome. Just to be in Nature is magical and appreciate....Gareth great video young sir... YBD
Hi mate, thanks for tuning in and watching this wintry episode. Yes, it never grows tiresome especially when you can only get out metal detecting once a week here and there. Work and family dictate my life at the moment, not much time for metal detecting or my UA-cam channel. Thanks again and catch you on the next one. G
Hi Neil apologies for the slow reply. Hope you and your family had a great Christmas and new year. I'm still going, still trying to continue with my channel, but it is very very hard work at the moment due to so much going on. Good luck to you for 2024
Hi Gareth, top tip to keep your hands warm, I use lined building gloves, around £5 from screw fix and I put in hand warmers, 2 packs for £1. my hands toasty warm. Good luck mate, great video again 👍
Hi John, thanks for the tips. Cold hands is something I very rarely suffer with, but man that was a COLD session. I have a pair of Sealskinz gloves, thermal & waterproof, and they allow use of phone screens.. But I forgot them at home haha. Thanks for tuning in and watching. Apologies for the slow reply, I am behind at replying to comments at the moment, but I will catch up. G
Mr.G 👊 superb video. You remind me my country at this time 😉❄️❄️❄️❄️ very snowy and very frosty 🥶. But I love it like you. We are saying... Isn't bad weather, just wrong clothes 😹
Hi mate, thanks as always for tuning in and kind words. I do love the cold weather, the snow, frost and ice, it makes for great UA-cam videos and different videos. Yes 100% agree, if you have the right kit and quality kit, you can be out there in all conditions. Thanks again. G
Gday Gareth. Yep that’s cold but beautiful. Awesome surroundings. Couple more bag seals for the collection. That escutcheon is a ripper. The key would be a stonker. Merry Christmas to you and the family. Take care mate 🦘🦘😁👍
Hi Andrew, the joys of the British climate mean we get a taster of everything. Personally I love it, and because of the endlessly varying conditions and climates, it makes it so much more enjoyable making UA-cam videos. Apologies for the slow reply, and thanks for your email this week. G
Great video Gareth, out tomorrow at the silver field hoping to get some goodies. Struggling for content though at the moment as I wasn’t out last weekend. Hope to see you soon mate, merry Christmas. Paddy
Thanks Paddy, apologies for the slow reply, running behind on replies here. If you are finding yourself short on content, a good idea is to focus more on your channel than on the detecting. For example, aim to film 2 videos in a full day metal detecting. Its something I've been doing recently. Its a lot of work, but it really helps to have plenty of content. Hope you and the Hoopers are well, see you soon. G
Hi Kim, a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from me. Apologies for the slow reply, I am very behind on comments at the moment. Thank you so much for supporting my channel and hope to see you on my next episode. Gareth

wow that is Extreme Gareth when i find a pair of gloves that keep my fingers warm i will be out to thanks again and best wishes you and the family cheers
Hi James, it was definitlely a cold one! You should try looking at Sealskinz gloves. I got a pair, although I forgot them!! They are not thick and bulky, but are thermal lined, completely waterproof and allow the use of touch screens. Not that expensive either. Have a look here: amzn.to/4aYFs3u Thanks as always for watching. G
I am sure you were getting ice on your moustache, and I bet that coffee was amazing, we always take a flask of nice hot coffee with us. Another fantastic bag seal, that land really is a bag seal hot spot, well cold spot at the moment lol

Hi mate, yeah these are awesome conditions, I love been out there in it, I love metal detecting in it and making UA-cam films in it. Thanks so much for the channel visit
Mate I've got to say this has to be one of favourite videos from you. Yes we all love epic finds, but watching you do what you love is honest and amazing. The winter scenery is polar( the pun 😅) of where I am in the middle if Australia at 45 degrees with 80% humidity working is surreal and as I said just incredible to watch. Wishing you n yours a merry n safe Xmas from me n mine in Australia 🇦🇺
Hi Peter from warm sunny Australia. Thank you so much for your amazing and kind words. As a real metal detecting channel, sometimes the finds I make are rubbish or not so many of. When this happens I lean on the natural beauty of the world to carry a video along and make it marginally entertaining. This winter wonderland was one of those days and I'm so pleased you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it. Thanks again and apologies for the slow reply, I am a few weeks behind at the moment and insist I reply to every comment I receive. A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. G

Hi mate, that's the thing with the UK, we get a bit of everything. Personally, I love it, we get these ice cold winter wonderlands, then we get the warm spring time with all its glorious colours and wildlife. Then the hot summertime, shorts n tshirt detecting, beer in bag haha. Then of course the autumn, my personal favourite time to metal detect. Hi Gareth, iv always watched your videos even though a nox user, the videos ate always great and i look forward to your new one coming out, i have now decided to get a deus 2 as struggling with the weight of my nox, what is your go to program, I was thinking of just starting on sensitive ft and j7st learning all the tones, do you think that would be to much for me as a beginner with the deus 2, many thanks and happy xmas
Hi Sandra, apologies for the slow reply, I am quite behind on comment replies. You got a great machine there, but the Deus 2 is definitely lighter and better build quality. To be honest it is always tough going to a different manufacturer and you have to start again a big learning curve. When I got my Deus2 I started on Program 1 General for quite some time. I toyed with Relic and Deep HC, but when I tried Sensi FT, I fell in love. Definitely my preferred program. Thanks for supporting my channel, let me know how you get on with your soon to be Deus2. G

Beautiful winter setting 👍
Hi guys, thank you for the channel visit, this was an awesome video to make, I already forget how cold it was at the beginning of the morning. Standing under that tree in complete silence other than the fluttering leaves was pure bliss.. Thanks so much for watching. G
Thanks for the video. A pleasure to watch. I hope the visit to Santa went well.
Hey Phil, Happy New Year, apologies for the slow reply, I am 3 weeks behind on replies to all my good viewers comments. I'll get there though. I wish you gold fortunes in 2024
Perfectly normal! Thats what trees are for mate! To stand under and see leafs falling. 🥰🙏
You have such beautiful fields over there!
Hi mate, that was a real pleasant experience standing under that tree. I bet I was there for about 20 minutes, checking my phone, filming stuff, detecting etc. A moment I won't forget. Thanks for watching, apologies for the slow reply. G
Let’s go, let’s go treasure and adventure👵💕🇺🇸✌️🌎🎉🌺
Helloo, thanks very much for visiting my channel, hope to see you on my next episode.
You are perfectly normal and perfectly wonderful, Gareth! What a beautiful morning! Merry Christmas!🎄❤️
Hellooo thanks as always for you kind words and also for watching. That was a cold session!! Hope you and your family had a great Christmas and new year. G
Perfectly normal Gareth. I love detecting on cold crisp days too. We’ve got to get out when we can 👍
Hi Stuart, thanks for tuning in and watching this one, I am pleased there are others out there who thrive in these conditions.
Thermal lined, waterproof and can use touch screens with them:
amzn.to/3O4ukIK
Thanks for tuning in and hope to see you again. G
You’re welcome. I can understand about forgetting things. Lucky enough I keep all my stuff in a back pack. lol. Learned the hard way. But I use these right here.
Gareth - you are a brave man!! Lovely video. Take care mate, cheers, John.
Hi John, cheers mate, apologies for slow reply, I am behind on my replies. It was a cold one, but I thrive off those conditions. Hope you are well, catch you again soon. G
Your not bonkers or a weirdo either. Who wouldnt want to be out in the beautiful countryside doing what we love doing. Saving history!!!❤
Good luck with yours 😀
Hope to see more soon 🙏
Nice one braving those conditions but perfect atmosphere and nice finds
Hi mate, yes definitely cold and tough conditions to be out there, but amazing conditions for making a UA-cam film. Got to love the UK climate :) Thanks so much for watching. G
Stunning scenery. you are very brave

Winter wonderland, beautiful. We have all done it ,I personally like frosty marnings in preference to rain.Merry Christmas.
Hi Dave, apologies for the slow reply, been super busy and so far behind replying to all the comments. I think most people would pick frost over rain. Hope you had a great Christmas and new year. I hope to have my next episode done by this Friday, take it easy. G

Hello and greetings, thanks so much for watching this video, it sure was a cold day of exploring. Hope you are well and hope to see you on my next episode.

Great video Gareth lovely scenery tree picture leaves falling great Merry Christmas enjoy family time
Hi Bobby, cheers mate, yeah the leaves silently fluttering to the ground was a real tranquil moment for me, I did not want to leave.
Hey Troy, thanks for watching this one and for your kind words as always. These conditions are amazing to make a UA-cam film, I love it. Apologies for the slow reply, taken me an eternity to work my way through replying to everyone. A belated Happy Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. G
"You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.""........ But with stunning views like that it's no wonder you went out, such a beautiful winter wonderland. Nothing wrong with standing under a tree with the leaves falling, it just has to be done!
Hello, yes definitely bonkers, but those conditions are magical and I love it like that. Thanks as always for watching and for sticking with my channel. Catch you soon. G

Great video, enjoyed your adventure Gareth. Superb filming and editing again, great angles and story telling. Get you completely in the falling leaves , magical stuff.

Absolutely stunning video in that scenery, that's your treasure right there, loved it, your film making skills are 100% buddy, really enjoyed
Keep going buddy, have a wonderful Christmas!!! X
Hi Neil apologies for the slow reply. Hope you and your family had a great Christmas and new year. I'm still going, still trying to continue with my channel, but it is very very hard work at the moment due to so much going on. Good luck to you for 2024
@@TheDukesOfDerbyshire cheers me ansome, yes life does get in the way of life sometimes!!! I know what you mean 👌👍
Hi Gareth, top tip to keep your hands warm, I use lined building gloves, around £5 from screw fix and I put in hand warmers, 2 packs for £1. my hands toasty warm. Good luck mate, great video again 👍
Hand warmers from home and bargain 👌
Hi John, thanks for the tips. Cold hands is something I very rarely suffer with, but man that was a COLD session.

Hi Sandra, apologies for the slow reply, I am quite behind on comment replies. You got a great machine there, but the Deus 2 is definitely lighter and better build quality.
