adding off camera flash certainly adds that extra dimension. As a amateur travel photographer I know how difficult it can be a times finding willing subjects and carrying a big soft box would certainly scare a lot of people off. I notice you are setting up your shots and your subjects are willing to pose. I don't think that approach is going to work in Cambodia where it's more about capturing the moment Aside from the obvious courtesy of asking them first do you also pay them for their moments?

What I understood you just visited Varanasi area... It's not even 1% of India... India is much more versatile than one can think... Next time you must visit tribal Villages of North-east India, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Gujrat atleast these places... You'll get to feel the magic... It might not be as beautiful as New Zealand but it's much more enchanting which can only be felt... Trust me it is... Happy Travelling...
