    This case - maybe in 39mm- with the dial of the SNXS and a better bracelet would be the ultimate affordable everyday watch.

    I have an SNKL23 (Black version of this) with a black leather strap and add-on butterfly clasp and I'm literally living the dream off of this entry-level watch that looks like a thousand dollar watch! (got it for $75)
    It has its handsome look along with its day-date complication and lume, there's nothing more I could ask for!
    You can't hand-wind it but you can just hold the whole thing and spin it around, though mine was advanced half a minute after a week.

      A couple of years ago I got a Seiko 5 1971 with extra model names Actus SS (no idea what that means) on my domestic auction site for small money. It's a bit complicated to set day/date (you actually push the crown in slow or fast to set day/date, which is tedious). I've no idea when it was last serviced, but it works fine.

    The best looking Seiko 5 is in my slim wrist right now. It's a small 34mm watch with a date/day black dial and stainless bracelet. It also has both civilian and military time. It still looks new after wearing it almost daily for 27 years.

    I got a Seiko SNKL41 for my first automatic a week or so ago. I'm glad I got this one for as cheap as I did, $61.88 for a used, like new one with all the things it came with. runs +2 seconds per day, and I put an old old but nice leather strap that probably costs more than this did, and I love it

  • @VF5

    Own this watch for 2 weeks now. I cannot believe it, but as someone who is a stickler for accuracy, this watch runs at +.5 to 1 sec per day. Since the day I received the watch until now, it is 10 seconds ahead of the official time in my computer.

    I own multiple watches , including a very nice Rolex DateJust with the Tuxedo dial, but after watching this video I tracked down this Seiko and purchased it and I'm not disappointed..the watch as you stated, punches way above its price. I did put it on a leather strap ( although the bracelet looks good on the watch, it is a little jangly ) which dresses up the watch very nicely. Hard to believe how dressy it looks on wrist and definitely has a great Seiko vibe much like the SARB or Grand Seiko...without the price tag. Great video. Cheers M.

    Nice watch. I have many vintage Seiko 5. The new Seiko 5 are not in the same class. Here are my top 5 keepers;
    1. 7619 7060 25 jewels Sportsmatic. 170 Usd. This one is nicer than the Datejust. It's not 36 nor 39. It's in-between - 37.5, nice vintage sports size. It has a zaratsu polished bezel inside and protected by the glass. The hands and indices are also zaratsu polished. They still glitters after 5o years.
    2. 7619 9060 25 jewels sportsmatic . 150 Usd. This one has a diver's indices, like the vintage 62Mas, only nicer. The hands are also lumed.
    3. 5126 6030 23 jewels Rally Diver. 430 Usd. Comes in a really cool bracelet.
    4. 6119 8410 - 21 jewels casual. 135 Usd. 37mm. Pastel marine blue dial. Very unique and comfortable bracelet. 1st link is 18mm ( internal lug width ). 2nd link is 24mm ( external lug width ). Then it taper down to 16mm at the clasp. A piece of art.
    5. 6139 7010 Speedmaster - This is probably the rarest of the 6139. It was assigned to the Japanese Air Force. Of my one dozen vintage Seiko chronographs, this is the only one with applied Arabic indices.

    • @canonyeo4286
      @canonyeo4286 5 років тому

      @@DeanoDrives You are welcomed. I shared the list below with Saleendriver after watching his very nice vintage seiko collection. These are my favorite among my 4-5 dozens Vintage Seiko.;
      1. 4522 7000 - 900 usd. This is a 25 Jewels 5 Hz hi-beat Three Center Hand Manual wind. This is a higher caliber than the KS4502 (400usd) which in turn is higher than the LM5470 (200 usd), which is why the GS is double the price of the KS, and, the KS double that of LM, though all are running at 5Hz. If you have played with manual wind watches, just by looking at the hour and minute hands, you would already know which is a better one. I commented more about this on Upstick's video on the Explorer vs SBGN 001 which were made to disparage Bark and Jack.
      2. 7016 5011 Monaco and 5029 Tank - 1000 usd. Patek made this caliber only in the mid 2000. One would cost you 100K.
      3. 9223 8000 -200 usd. This is a 8 jewels twin quartz. It has a washi dial you see on the new GS. The washi is also engraved on the case and the whole bracelet.
      4. 7A48 Moonface Fishing Master -600 usd. This is a serviceable 15 jewels quartz. Very cool bracelet
      5. 8305 7000 - 350 usd. This is a 30 jewels Seikomatic Clover. It has the clover leaf veins brushed on the case.
      6. 5146 7000 - 350 usd. This a 27 jewels hi-beat Presmatic. It has the same clover leaf brushed finish, but, a sharper case. The hands and indices are zaratzu polished.
      7. 6218 8950 - 170 usd. This is a 30 jewels mechanism which were later upgraded for the GS. It has zaratsu polished hands and indices with the same 62GS case. Have both the SS and gold-filled.
      8. 7619 7000 -150 usd. This is much nicer than the Datejust. The zaratsu polished bezel is internal, protected by the glass. 50 years old and it still glitters. The hand and indices are also zaratsu polished.
      9. 5126 6030 rally diver - 430 usd. This is a super cool sport watch with an equally cool bracelet.
      10. 5216 6030 LM Special - 200usd. This has a facet glass like the KS vanac special which i also own.
      11. Gold feather- 350 usd. Gold filled. At 7.8mm, it's the thinnest watch during its time. A year later dethroned by Citizen Diamond Flake. It has a Star on the dial, symbol for a special watch.
      12. Crown Special - 430 usd. Have both the SS and gold-filled. These also have the star symbol. They came out a year later after the 1st GS, and have the same train.

      I collect vintage Seiko and Citizen too.
      Makes you wonder why anyone would buy a modern watch at all !!
      I bought a Seikomatic P 33 jewels in excellent condition and original bracelet for the same price as this watch your showing !!!

    • @canonyeo4286

      @@apegrasshoplizard You are absolutely right. I have more than four dozens of vintage GS/KS/Seiko. That Seikomatic p-33 that you have is a gem. I have a number of very nice Seikomatic and Presmatic too;
      1. 8306 7000 Seikomatic Clover- This is a 30 jewels caliber. This one has the clover leaf veins finished on the case. The indices are cut to look and sparkle like diamonds. Really difficult to find in mint condition
      2. 6128 8950 Seikomatic Weekdater - This is a 35 jewels caliber. I have both in GF and SS. The hands and indices are zaratsu polished which still glitters. They also have the same case as the 62GS. There's a crown embossed on the back case to show its class. The base is similar to that of the GS.
      3. 5146 7000 Presmatic - This is a 27 jewels Hi-beat caliber. It also has the clover veins on the case.. Have to see these watches in person to see how amazing they are. The indices are zaratsu mirror finished with black infill, and comes with a very fine linen dial. This, too, is really hard to find in mint condition.
      4. 5146 5011 Presmatic - This the same caliber as above. This called the Blanco TV. The indices are all horizontal, zaratsu polished with black infill on one side.
      5. 9223 8000 KQ - In terms of designs and finishing, this my favourite of my seiko collection, which includes more than a dozen new gs. This a 8 jewels twin quartz. The indices are zaratsu polished on the inner half and black infill on the outer half. It has a washi dial, case, and, the whole bracelet. It's like the 5146 7020 Presmatic, which is even more spectacular. I hunted in vain for this piece. It has a hammered case, dial, and, bracelet. We can see this now in the latest GS SBGZ001, but, this one is short of the hammered bracelet. Whoever has this Presmatic is on cloud nine.
      Cheers!

    I have the darker silver-gray dial version, same indented stripes but with golden accents on the indices. (SNKL 19) It may sound tacky, but it is not, because it was done in restrain. The case, even the bracelet are exactly the same, and look like it cost markedly more than it did. It's an elegant and fine watch and I'm quite happy to own it. I recommend this version for those, who find the bright, whitish silver dial version in the review a 'bit too cold.

    I have the classic SNKL23 model and have been thinking of getting this one as well, before Seiko decides to get rid of all these affordable fun smaller 5 models with the outdated but reliable 7s26 movement, and focusing on higher priced levels.
    One thing I noticed now in this video (have watched it once before), is that the classic stripes on dial are in relief here which isn't the case with the SNKL23 model. I actually had to check again, but if my vision isn't totally off, the stripes on SNKL23 are elevated and in relief on the SNKL15. Or am I hallucinating lol.
    I totally agree on the 5 logo. It has a half decade history on a classic model that earns respect. The new one which is a kinda hybrid of 5 and S (as in sports, I guess) will never be as timeless as the classic one.

    Nice watch but in this price range I'd personally go quartz (G-Shock or digi Casio/Timex) as I have very little need for dressier timepiece. I may have missed it but what is the lug width?

    I think they share some parts with the orient 3 star, I'm holding my 3 star, and it looks exactly like this one, even the strap is the same

    I agree, the 7S26 is not too bad if you are wearing a piece all the time, with a wound spring and moving in all positions. Sometimes they’re out but you can adjust this yourself. I have the SNXS73 and SNXS79, and as you mention the case is a little awkward with the gaps, but that’s a good thing in a hot climate, a little wrist air flow. I have some old 5 sportsmatics from the ‘60 with similar cases.

    Too big a case. 36mm is better. Plus I like champagne colour dial although silver is good. Please make it smaller then I will buy. My wrist is 6.25inches.

    A good watch isn't just about the dial. Yes, these look nice, but I have the same moveent in another 5, the SNZ. The lack of winding betrays where the costs were cut, and to me is a pain.

    Two other beautiful Seiko 5 you should try to get your hands on (i can't find it anywhere) are the SNKN21 and SNK801.

    I am a not very active pensioner and I have a new Seiko 5 Snxg47k1 which looks lovely and that and the cheap price was why I bought it. I do not trust it however if I have a sleep in the day it stops. I am giving it away. I have a Sea-gull Ocean Star now which is a bigger watch and has a cyclops which is great.
    Never let's me down. The lume goes through the night too.

      Peter Gplus Boo-Hoo so what, they are hardly useful anyway, I guess you’d also sneeze at those non-hack or handwind Pateks or Jaegers.

    • @petergplus6667
      @petergplus6667 5 років тому

      @@d3xmeister If I bought them to use them yes. Some people maybe only stare at their watches but I guess the Seiko buyers aren't one of them. Not in this price range.

    • @d3xmeister
      @d3xmeister 5 років тому

      Peter Gplus Well I paid $75 for my SNKL45 and I’m amazed at how this watch looks feels and works for this price. Millions of miles ahead of any cheap Chinese or no-name brands in that respect. The bracelet while far from being great (folded links and hollow end links it’s surprisingly tough and solid (non-rattly) and super comfortable and no hair pull. It’s different than the ones on the SNKL23 or the one in this video. Hacking and hand-winding are non-issues in my opinion, I never wound an automatic as I never had the need too (plus 30 secs of shaking will give you up to 10 hours on a 7S movement) and setting it right on the second can be achieved without hacking also but still I see it as a non-point since mechanical watches aren’t that accurate anyway, heck, new Rolexes are 2-3 seconds/day

    my seiko 5 died, snk809, swap its wristband with newly bought orient tristar... orient's tristar bracelet is soo thin, not durable, just hit something and one of the bracelet hinge bend. seiko 5 bracelet even the lower end models seems solid and strong

    Very beautifull watch, but i think the SNKL41 looks better to the Grand Seiko than this one (personal tought) !In Seiko 5 line i have the snx 111 and the snkl43 k1(the blue-purple face) !The snkl43 is a 36 mm case beauty, and it looks close to Grand Seiko also !I put them lather straps(brown to snkl43, and black tu snx 111) and it looks stunning !My future purchase i think has to be a Presage SRPB44J1(4R35 mouvement)!It's a bit larger (40mm case), but it's ok !Keep up the good work mister ! I love this channel ! :)
