- Archaeologists Danny Schmidt and Mary Anna Hartley describe a cellar site excavated in 2008 that was likely from a building destroyed during Bacon's Rebellion in 1676.

Schmidt and Hartley focus mainly on describing the objects that were found on the floor of the cellar, that had either fallen from the floors above or had been left in the cellar prior to the fire. This short film was put together using archival footage.
This is truly wonderful and amazing. I love history of all kinds.
Jamestown is one of my favorites.
Stay safe and keep up the good work. Thank you.
Great video! I love these longer clips. I really should look into that Rebellion. Blows my mind that they burned their own houses down.
As always, another absolutely wonderful video. Thanks for all that you do and share 🌻
My grandfather was involved in bacon's rebellion and was banished to Barbados for seven years. The reason for bacon's rebellion was the govern would not protect the settlers from Indian attacks, which is why it was in the declaration of independence.
This is awesome. I am descended from Col Thomas Hansford who was one of the first executed in the rebellion
My grandfather was Thomas wisdom who was banished to Barbados for seven years.
I descend from his sister, Elizabeth!
I am descended from Capt. Thomas Busby who was involved in the rebellion as well.
My Grandfather was the one shot in the stomach in that Rebellion. His name was Captain Hubbard Hubert Ferrell ( 1645-1676)
Bacon's Rebellion scared the planter class of the Colony. The backcountry farmers and indentured servants both black and white joining together to attack the tidewater gentry alarmed the the ruling class. The rebellion hastened the hardening of racial lines associated with slavery, as a way for the planters and the colony to control some of the poor.
Seems somebody must have been making money with a brick factory. It amazes me that they had brick floors in the tidewater, yet they didnt wic water. Ive seen evidence of this in federalsburg md. In a house built in 1780. Those guys new what they were doing
This is so much cooler of a find than people realize. Bacon’s Rebellion? Legendary.
Praise God for his guidance and all of your energy passion and purse in excavating our history. Jamestown was the portal for every settler coming from the old country for almost a century. Your work is out particular and signal reverence for those of us whom God and our obedient pluck have been permitted to remain in the area since our coming here from the old country. God bless you all again.

My long, distant relative is Nathaniel Bacon. Loved watching this video! Thank you!!
My distant relative is William Drummond. I'm just now learning about all this. It's fascinating.
Enjoyed it, thank you.
The loss of five barrels of goods must have been devastating for the owners, in addition to the loss of their residence. The hardships these people went through are incomprehensible. It kind of feels ike they were pointless victims of capitalism. It's interesting that we can extrapolate so much sociologically and anthropologically from archeology.
My grandfather Captain Hubbard Hubert Ferrell died in that rebellion
"We'll burn our own homes! That'll show em!" If you ever get a chance visit Jamestown. Very Interesting place.
Seems like a reoccurring theme in the US.
Bacon never had property. He was rebelling for that fact. The planters had all the land; the only land available was the sea and the mountain ridges.
Amazing discoveries!😎
From Rhode Island-First state to formally declare it's independence from Britain-Thanks for the post guys! Fabulous!
I am a descendent of Thomas wisdom who sent to Jamaica for punishment for bacons rebellion.
Thank you
geez not even America yet and people can't along.
Or it could have just been a place that burnt down.
Most of the audio seems to be missing. Must be a new thing because no one else has mentioned it?
Why are the bricks not showing scorch or burn marks
So he burned down his own house, but emptied it out first.
Or the place could have just burnt down and he retrieved items after. Why would you leave barrels in there?
