I have my wife's grandfather's old white and red Sears electric saw. It is a power house. It had a 14" bar on it. I put a new 16" Oregon on it. Cuts like butter. I thought the electric saw was going to be a pansy saw... Haha. Cuts as good as my old xl, plus it starts every time.
I love mine. Two notes; They do not like moisture, at all. Don't leave one outside if there's even a risk of frost. And the little plastic plate that secures the tightening mechanism warps into uselessness over time and use. In addition to cutting inside, I use mine outside when I'm working within 100 feet of power. But I also always use a short "sacrificial" cord, anywhere between 6 - 10 feet long, just in case. When cutting a fresh fell or a brush pile, I have momentarily lost sight of a cord, and then OOPS!
I had 2 liters of peanut oil left over from heat treating a tool and use it my chainsaw for bar oil and it works just fine, after i am done with that i am going to try the canola oil. Merry Christmas. : )
Merry Christmas and happy holidays Uncle Cy. Nice little saw for carving and cutting rough cut lumber. There's snow here in upstate New York, so my saws are on sleep mode until April unless an emergency arises. Are those electric saws made by Makita? The Makita gas powered saws are made by Dolmar. I never had either one but Makita is a hell of a tool though. Hope you have longevity with it. Please keep the saw content coming, weather permitted.
I can get bar oil for my saw on foodstamps!!!! That made me laugh so hard! Take that Timber Industry! Lol Thank You Uncle Cy for the informative and entertaining video! Keep up the good work!
Have you thought about a cordless chainsaw, I have had several electric saws from the lower end of the market, and I swear never again. To many issues with cord tangle when working, and the motors have shifted and or burned out quickly.
@@gettintheresafelywithpatf2869 Maybe you should try the uc4051a instead of buying multiple cheaper models? XD (price has increased) ... at this time, it is the second most expensive electric chainsaw with a cord. I'm not sold on cordless chainsaw at all... literally have a battery life of about 7.5 minutes of continuous cutting, so absolutely need extra batteries or waste time. can make this lil Makita run for hours and hours if you have bar oil and sharp chain(s) and 115v. the soft start feature and overload protection make it harder to kill this motor. you basically would have to try hard and or neglect the bar oil completely and sharpening completely to kill this motor asap and even then it will turn off a lot before you could kill it due to making it pull more amps than it should need to and it would still survive the whole first day of abuse. Yeah batteries are "convenient" but only if you are willing to buy a lot them at a "premium" and replace them every few years*, which doesn't seem convenient/ practical unless doing commercial work. this saw is the best bang for your buck Chinesium chainsaw, especially if you don't abuse and neglect its basic needs to the extreme and know where the cord is / dont cut the power cord XD .......derp!
I’m curious to what model saw you would order the quarter pitch for, or if a company makes one specific for this saw, not sure how to tag you specifically so I hope you see this. Thanks !
As it turns out, there is not a 1/4 inch pitch sprocket made for this saw. However I was able to get a 14 inch Quarter tip carving bar that will run 3/8 pitch which is what it comes with so problem solved. There is a 1/4 pitch sprocket made for the 36 Volt Makita battery powered saw. So I will probably end up getting one of those in the future, but for now I will make due with what I have and the 1/4 inch bar and chain that I ordered fit my MS170, MS171, and my G255 which I have 1/4 inch sprockets for.

Tim White I use vegetable oil for bar oil, and in a pinch as a substitute for 2 stroke oil on my older stihl weed walkers, and Japanese chain saw!
Canola oil! Never thought of that. Thanks!
