The first video of yours that I have ever seen -- and it is this! 😞. SO sorry. As someone who has spent a lifetime in farming, nursery and greenhouse work, it is a real punch in the gut to discover one morning that a crop has been destroyed
@@briansplantlife thank you for your kind words, and sorry that your 1st encounter with Renny’s channel is a devastating video. I have come to accept the situation and move on, so all is good. I will end up with lots of leaf props in the next few years. 😊
Hi Renny- So sorry to see this and knowing you have to go through the cleanup process. Thank God this was the overflow greenhouse. You have some of the most beautiful Haworthia I know of. If you need help sorting -I’m retired. Will work for plants 😊 I hate squirrel’s!! There are more than ever before in my area too. We need more predators or cats or something.
I have a small wood near my house and many squirrels live there. I have never seen any around my house. I have a cat who likes hunting. Now I am thinking that the cat keeps squirrels away. I am so sorry for your loss. It’s devastating to look at all the mess they made.
I've had squirrel problems this year too - the regular squirrels and also ground squirrels. They like to "taste test" a bunch of my cacti and succulents and really messed up several. But the scale of your damage is insane especially when I know all those plants are for commercial purposes. It will take some real inner strength to deal with all of that damage. Sending good vibes from New Mexico!
Thank you for the good vibes. I learned many lessons from this experience, the most important being- always keep spare plants somewhere else. Also regretted that I didn't take full action when I first noticed animal break-in. Measures taken too late due because I thought I was dealing with rabbits.
I am very sorry about what happened. My heart breaks when I see so many destroyed plants😢. The only thing I can think of is that a dog or cat could scare away the squirrels. I encourage you not to give up and to think that there is still a lot to fight for. Best regards.
@@doctorzlo200 thank you for sending heart warming support. I will make the best of the situation and grow more beautiful plants to replace the lost ones. 😊
Oh my goodness, I am so sorry. I understand what you're experiencing. I had the same thing happen to my garden. Everything was fine one day; the next day, the groundhogs and deer destroyed my cabbage, kale, and collards. I had a lot of them also. I had a similar experience this year, also. This fall, I am entirely wildlife-proofing my garden beds. It will be a lot of work to add the extra equipment to keep them out; however, it will be worth the effort.
@@MyOutdoorWildlife I am sorry for your defeat as well. I know these animals were only trying to survive, but when they ate up all of our painstaking grown plants, it is so hard not to despise them. I too will go all out to up my defense.
Thank you for your kind words. I experience panic attack when I first saw it. Didn't know what to do; even forgot to cry. I only started taking video 2 days later, after I managed to accept reality and was geared to clean up. It will take many years to grow those leaves back to plants again, but that day will come.
Thank you for your sympathy Gerhard. It is very sad indeed, but luckily the squirrel attack this greenhouse first. This is where I keep all my excess spare plants, plants that need dividing, pot bound plants etc. Now that I know they like haworthias, I will protect other greenhouses.
@rennyshaworthia I have seen EdibleAcres (UA-cam channel focusing on sustainable agriculture) protecting their tree seedlings with wooden frames with hardware cloth (which is a metal mesh sheet) stapled on. The mesh is wide enough for watering and sunlight, but narrow and rigid enough to prevent most rodents.
upon review of their more recent air prune box playlist, they aren't even really using wood anymore - it's basically just the hardware cloth bent in to a box shape to prevent ground level predation - your mileage may vary.
@@FlorenceChandotCA I cannot apply the same prevention because I grow these plants in pots on benches. I need access to the plants often. Meshing the bench up is temporary solution.

Heartbreaking!!I saw where there is a motion detection device that sprays water to deter cats, I wonder if that would work?

How about hardware cloth on wood frames?

Maybe chicken wire or something with harder metal
Put food for squirrels outside and make images or models of prey birds and put it near plants
