    I just purchase the 12" starter kit tonight and as you know, can't wait to get it. So I am on youtube absorbing as much info as possible. I will be following your channel for future updates. Thank you for the video!

      Hope you enjoy it! It really is fun. I have more lathe videos coming and in fact will be doing another project on it this weekend... I'd love some pics of your first project on it! captainpaul@cox.net

      @@pauly7218 Mine just got delivered today. Still making room in my shop for it. Have not been able to prepare for the arrival of the lathe due to the fires, power outages, etc. in my area. Things are looking a lot better now than they were last week. Tell your neighbor to take a break with that leaf blower. lol Positive thoughts your way!

    Very cool. Look forward to following your work with the lathe. I had an operational toy lathe as a kid. Made some nice candle holders. Can’t see that kind of “toy” in any store now. It’s a wonder I have both eyes and all 10 fingers still. Have fun with it.

    Paul, well done on your lathe purchase. My advice to You is to enroll in the school of you tube, and research all your wood turning options and needs, so you can optimise your enjoyment of our hobby. I recommend first learn about sharpening your tools, and also mini tools designed specifically for fine turning like pens and rings etc. You tube has great wood turning tutorial videos, which cover all aspects of our hobby. I have been turning for nearly a year and am self taught by watching videos on you tube. I also have a mini lathe and am about to buy a full sized one, too. Cheers from Australia.

      Who is your favorite UA-camr for Wood turning?

    • @ronbeckhaus7326
      @ronbeckhaus7326 4 роки тому

      Paul, the guy I got most of my basic turning instruction is Mike Waldt. He has some really good beginners instructional vids covering turning techniques, tool uses and maintenance, finishing, sanding and some basic projects. The key point is practice. Good luck with it. Once you watch Mike and any others who pop up under a wood turning for beginners you tube search, you will quickly get the idea. Even if you don't have a project in mind, stick a piece of 3 X 3 offcut of a generic Scottish timber between centres and practice first bu roughing it down to round (use about 700rpm) on your low speed pulley system. Then up the rpm to about 1100 or so and get comfortable with the tool. You will also realise you will need more chisels then you currently have. You guys in thu USA have Harbor Freight, who sell budget lathe tools in sets or singly for reasonable prices. Martin Saban-smith is also good as is the Wyoming Wood Turner. Have fun, mate.

    If you never figured it out, the two little plastic pieces screw into the back, one to each end, are to wrap the cord around.

    That spring knob thing that's supposed to hold the door closed. The easiest way - the only way - to install it is as follows: Stand the lathe on end on its right side with motor up. You will need someone to help you hold it this way so it doesn't tumble. Then unscrew the two rubber feet and you will be able to move away the plastic access panel. Using small vice grips, put the rod down though the hole, put the spring over the rod from the inside, push up the spring inside with your fingers and apply the vice grips to hold the spring under tension. Then it's rather easy to slide on the washer and then install the nut as far as you are able with your fingers. Release the vice grips, reinstall the plate and feet, and return the lathe to it's proper position. That's it. After I did this, I think you could add a second washer on the outside but it still works.

    I suspect there’s something in the user manual about those parts you’re not sure about. Unfortunately, you have to wade through the 16 pages of warnings, like “Don’t use this tool while sleeping” and “Don’t use this tool in the bathtub.”

    the 3 pieces you could figure out what they are, two of the pieces mount on the back to wrap the cord. the third piece is for the lower door latch.

      isnt it a dual use, door latch for bottom pully and also the push rod to change the belt line up and also to remove the head by pushing through the face plate to push out.. I admit not my first lathe, but I do not have this lathe yet, its on its way, which is why I am here.. I bought the harbor frieght version and it burned the 3 rd motor up so im going to this model.. about the same price point.. but I have the stand and extension coming as well..

    Can't believe how quiet it is Paul, seems almost silent. When you were checking the speeds, I didn't realise you had turned it on.😁 Like you, I haven't used one since high school but I do subscribe to a couple of woodturning channels. From watching them, one thing I would recommend is a polishing compound called "Yorkshire Grit". It brings up an amazing shine on wood but I don't know if it's available in the U.S. I'm looking forward to seeing you learn it's capabilities, and *yours* of course.👍
    Cheers for now,
    Dougie.

    I just purchased and received the same lathe. The two plastic parts you couldn't figure out are for cord management. You should have 4 screws and washers. They mount to the back of the bed to wrap up the power cord I guess in case you want to transport it. Did you ever figure out what the knob with the spring on it is for. I can't figure that one out. Like I said, just got mine today and am out here trying to hunt down what this thing is for and found your video.

      Paul Youdelis that knob bolt is for the little door on the left of the lathe... the spring and nut go inside, the the knob holds the door shut! Figured it out the other night... kind of a weird lock for the door!
