Nina Matthews even if she wasn’t a kid and let’s say she was a grown adult. Many people don’t have the option to say no to a toxic work environment due to living wages. The fact the person you replied to is so far up their ass about it is stupid. But yeah I get you

There is absolutely nothing wrong with her not speaking to her dance coach, if she felt it was toxic then she did the right thing....nobody needs to stay in a toxic relationship so why is everyone so upset over what is so right?
that’s what i don’t get either. but i also think that it’s bc she was portrayed as abby’s favorite and people would expect for her to not have as bad of a time like some others did, like Nia. but that also doesn’t mean that she wasn’t dealing with a toxic environment so it’s confusing when i see people say that maddie is making bs
I think it’s because she was Abby’s favorite and Abby would moved heaven and earth for her and was a strong force behind her career and then after she took off and she kinda turned her back on Abby but I can also see all the pressure that was on her to be the best could’ve ruined the experience
As a young child ( which she was ) at the time she started with Abby. She had no idea was toxic was. If , as she got older, she stated to feel that way she couldve quit. If she was so unhappy at the studio., her mom should've taken her out. Also, I believe a lot of it was staged for drama so people would watch it. I don't think it was as bad as it was portrayed. No doubt Abby was tough, but you don't reach your potential any other way. Maddie has made it big, and I am glad for her,she is a great dancer. But to never speak to the person that got you there is just rude, mean and disrespectful. I don't mean she has to be buddies with her, but to act like Abby never existed is just something you just don't do.
There's a lot of people that shame Maddie for not talking to Abby anymore, but can we really blame her? Like the pressure that Abby always put on Maddie was insane not to mention that Abby always told Maddie that her friends didn't care about her and she had to listen to Abby constantly dragging them down
....and she put so much pressure on Maddie to win that Maddie was literally having breakdowns every time she lost or messed up. People forget about that part. Jojo and Nia are literally the only two that are still cool with Abby and honestly it's b/c Nia is nice and Jojo was a Hollywood kid AND her mom was a dance teacher...Jojo was used to the pressure.
People forget Maddie was only 8 when she began filming for the show, she had an incredible amount of pressure put on her. She was on a national T.V show which went famous world wide, and she had Abby demanding she win competition after competition. I personally think the girl is a queen 🙏❤️
@@caseyjennings7420 Oh yea...she's amazing. I think (on the show) a lot of people assumed that b/c she won all the time that she had it easier than the other girls, but she really didn't. I wouldn't wanna be one of Abby's faves hahah...let me just fly under the radar....don't pay me any type of attention 🤣
Jojo said it herself, she entered as a fan. It's a different experience, bc as a big fan u accept anything knowing how it could help you and your career. The other girls grew up there, they didn't ask to be that successful, so they weren't ok with the poor treatment they were getting.
That b.s all the girls were there to be famous and dance on broadway 🎭 the girls weren’t dancing because of extracurricular activity. When the show boomed and some of the girls like Brooke and Paige wanted more opportunities! @@genesisone7450 Are you a child? Yelling at someone and insulting them isn’t the only form of abuse. Open up a psychology textbook and look up “emotional manipulation”, “gaslighting”, and “emotional grooming.”
@Genesis OG Dance Mom fans will remember that it was always Melissa undermining the other girls’ chance at solo routines and trying to kiss up to Abby that always led to Maddie being panicked. Abby treated the other girls, especially Nia, horribly. And in turn, the girls in their adolescent pettiness treated Jojo and the other new girls in later seasons horribly. The environment wasn’t only toxic because of Abby. The moms were nasty and undermined children to get more showtime.
Okay yes she was a fan but why did Jojo mom allowed her to enter? I once ask my mom at that time when in radio station mention about casting kids with no acting or singing experience to become a star my mom said ABSOLUTELY NOT! you will tank me later. I got so mad at her now that I am 30 I thank her after watching so many UA-camrs talking about the toxic environment in child start like Disney and nickelodeon.
I’m so happy because Abby is finally getting everything that she has always deserved. She went to jail, her students are not talking to her, she is not getting any of the credit. As it should be. You don’t get to traumatize and abuse children and still be able to take credit for their success. She did way more damage than she did good. I feel like Maddie was the icing on the cake to publicly announce that she was in a toxic environment, and to say that she never wants to have a relationship with Abby. All of the other girls were very clearly abused but for Maddie it was a little bit more covered up because of the favoritism. I’m so glad that she spoke out as well.
i totally agree, but i i partially also blame their parents - like they KNEW what was going on and knowingly kept their kids in that environment .... very questionable
@@aishaabdulaziz4572 Yeah I think there was this whole lawsuit against the parents if they tried to leave the show they were going to have to pay like thousands to millions if they broke their contract. I don’t think it was as easy as it looked. I also don’t think that any of the original parents or kids really knew what they had coming until they were in the thick of it. I really have a problem though with the minis and the next generation of kids that started there, like you knew what the hell you were getting into? Why are you crying? Lol
@ChickenNugget abby was a big narcissist she swore it was her that made the kids! NO abby you destroyed them, abused them. She literally groomed Maddie and then got jealous and threw her away once she became more famous than her.
Maddie represented the child Abby wishes she had. When Melissa played her by saying she "shared" her girls with Abby, Abby took that seriously. Melissa did that so her children would receive preferential treatment and once they were elevated she snatched them out of there and didn't look back. Abby is acting like a person whose child was taken. She needs to realize the role she played and move on. Maddie is not hers. For Abby's mentality and dignity she needs to leave those young ladies alone and stop acting like they owe her something.
Tbh it’s probably because maddie spent So many years of her life on it whereas jojo was only there for like 2 years , she didn’t get effected that much and after a year she opened her youtube channel which allowed her to grow apart from dance moms , definitely not the same situation
@@Tarikkb Let's be honest...Maddie's mother walked once she had used Abbie up. Melissa would have sold hers and their souls all to the devil to make those kids famous.

As someone who watched Maddie’s journey through Dance Moms for years… I can understand why she wouldn’t want to talk to her anymore. Abby did do a lot to help boost her career but I imagine it took a toll on her because Abby treated Maddie like the golden child and it was evident to the other kids/moms. It’s not Maddies fault but constantly being put on a pedestal in front of your peers can’t have been good for any of them. Glad to see Maddie is doing well!
Yeah but think about the time where Maddie cried because she didn’t get the solo, she can handle the pressure and if she didn’t like it she wouldn’t cry.
@@tianagreen1362 the difference was that Abby often manipulated Maddie. She was rude to all the kids but the second Maddie did something (or her mom really) she would punish maddy for weeks on end, she would tell her she loved her and then proceed to say maddy betrayed and disappointed her, and she’d cry infront of her. And she would do all of this to a 8-10 year old. It wasn’t that she didn’t like the spotlight it was that Abby would use maddy being “better” than the other girls to manipulate and punish her 10x harder anytime she made a mistake.
Parental pressure played a huge part as well. Both Melissa & Abby had her on a pedestal constantly bragging about how great she was then when she didn’t meet the expectations they had, she was subjected to reprimands or shunned. Tbh there was a lot of abusive behaviors (mental & emotional) that some of the girls endured during the show. Best thing was when a few moms pulled their kids from the show and the entertainment industry completely and allowed them to be regular kids/teens. Looking at their social media now as young adults/adults, after keeping a low profile for several years, I t’s easy to see which ones led more stable, normal teen lives & which ones continued (to be pressured ) to perform after leaving the show & the effect it had on them.
@@jhennd literally so true. She was very manipulative and maybe she thought she was doing what was best for her kid but she was forcing a child to have a maturity that is unreasonable for someone of that age and then blowing up at Maddie she couldn’t handle extreme levels of pressure and trauma. And even with her kids having to deal with her baggage she also let Abby tell Maddie traumatizing things because “it would make her a better dancer” or it would get her favoritism.
@@Lialikesfrogs07 what about the time she slipped and forgot her song Abby didn’t care but when all the others slipped or forgot she punished them over and over again
For the people that judge Maddie. Ask yourself... would you rather Maddie continue not speaking to Chloe, her sister, and other former dance friends in order to keep her relationship with Abby? Or would you rather her leave the woman that clearly manipulated her and used her as a weapon towards everyone... thus making her relationship with her sister stronger than ever, and being allowed to reconnect with the friends she had to give up on the show. Because you can't have both honey... Abby wouldn't allow Maddie to have those relationships because she controlled her so much that Maddie didn't even want to go ice skating with her team out of fear she would injure herself and Abby would be mad. She knows where she came from, but imagine being super close with someone that abused others.. you WILL go through some abuse in private. Freaking Maddie danced out of fear sometimes. Even saying "Abby's going to kill me" when she forgot her routine. Tell me why would she be sooo fearful if Abby was super nice.

im actually so happy that maddie and nia are neighbors. as children, nia was definetly the odd one out. and then the longer they danced together the more like sisters they all became. so i love even in adulthood, you know that feeling when you graduate high school and you never see those people again, i love that nia and maddie actually live their lives beside each other. that makes me literally so happy, because watching the show, i knew nia struggled. but its amazing to see how as adults they live right by each other.
I can see why JoJo still appreciates the show despite Abby's abuse. The show was already a hit and Abby championed for her to join the cast after encountering her on a competition show spin-off (Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition.) JoJo and her mom both realized that they could use being on the hit show as a platform to launch her brand, etc. and they did, successfully. So no matter how their experience was, they have to give credit for Abby for including JoJo and her mom because they literally would be unknowns if they hadn't gotten the exposure to introduce the world to her bows, style, etc. As for Maddie, Abby wants to claim her championing her got her noticed by Sia and therefore she would have never had the opportunity without "Dance Moms." Which is true. But it's Maddie taking the opportunity and knocking it out of the park that got her the world's attention and made Sia want to keep collaborating with her. So it's mitigating her talent by constantly saying "Oh, I'm only here because I was on a reality show that Sia watched." Maybe that's how she got noticed but that's not how she became a star and yes, Abby's training helped her to be a stickler for perfection but she still was disciplined and passionate enough to excel under her guidance. Abby wants to say "Without me..." and Maddie's talent is evident regardless of who she coached with. So she can only give her so much credit.
According to Abby, they gave her free acting classes and free privates and the producers didn’t want Maddie to do the sia thing, Abby was the one who fought for it and made it happen. When I watched abbys response it made a little bit more sense cause she wasn’t saying oh I made her famous, she just felt like Maddie should acknowledge ALL her teachers.
@@Shophiamondar2 I work in film/TV and cast for movies/TV. When Abby gets people from Pennsylvania to give her acting classes, she's 1) focusing strictly on facial expression for the sake of dance and 2) they're not people who know film/TV. Maddie just has that "it" factor and it's how she was able to carry an entire music video to the scope of getting a billion views. As for the producers not wanting Maddie to do it, she doesn't need them nor Abby's permission to take on the gig. It sounds like Abby is just trying to justify she changed Maddie's life when, in reality, Sia notoriously loves watching reality TV and writes songs about the shows (like "Pretty Hurts" by Beyonce was based on watching "Toddlers & Tiaras") so yes, she became aware of Maddie through "Dance Moms" but not because of Abby but because the choreographer she uses (Ryan Heffington) was able to identify how talented Maddie was based on her performances.
@@ManpreetSingh-fw1lu Well, whatever the case, JoJo was using "Dance Moms" as a platform to launch her brand and no matter how horrible the experience was at times, she's appreciative because it was all a means to an end. And Abby accepted her enough to include her as part of the team and not harass her to get her to leave a la Chloe/Christi. But I don't know where you got this information. Abby has had to include people against her will and she seems to turn on them immediately. With JoJo, she seemed friendly to her in her early episodes, calling her "JoJo with the Bow Bow," etc.
Some of you don't understand that she can be greatful and still choose not to talk to her. An example would be Britney spears. Her parents put her into acting and singing at a young age. Her parents were extremely toxic and she does not need to talk to them just because they brought her into this world. No one should have to put up with abuse.
Fr. It's so toxic that Abby herself drags the narrative along that they're "ungrateful". It's a spiteful, toxic view on the experience. Funny that Maddie (the child) matured faster than such a bitter lady.
So true. It’s called establishing boundaries. Knowing what’s good and what’s not for yourself and making a mature decision is nothing to whine about from fans
Man I used to love watching this show when I was younger and I related heavily to Maddie the always being put on a pedestal by those close to her the being stuck with being mature, professional and keeping a good face so people don't realize your drowning inside to just wanting to be a kid and hang out with friends without all the pressure and severe anxiety. With adults who are supposed to be nurturers sometimes feel like monsters one of them was my grandma she was like Abby in the sense of actions not personality especially when thinking she did nothing wrong. She used to dress me up in the most grown and expensive outfits put me in the sexiest shoes and the most expensive newest perfume and even tried to buy me diamonds and scheduled appointments to get my ears pierced, now when your younger what girl wouldn't love that! But my parents my mom especially made it clear that I shouldn't be wearing clothes or using perfume or owning a pair of diamonds when I was only 6 in some ways I agreed but I was little and I loved receiving gifts especially when its jewelry, what I didn't realize was that she was disrespecting my parents wishes I heard their rules I brought them back to her and she would say its ok we just won't tell them or you can't show them I remember the "if I buy this for you you need to hide it" a mantra she used MANY times when we hung out so much so that she would make me repeat it "when you go home what are you doing with this? "I'm hiding it". From 5-to 14 it all got to be too much that I had frequent panic attacks when it was brought up from my teachers to friends at school to at home by my siblings and parents and I never wanted to lie I HATED it but it got so overwhelming I didn't know whether she was telling the truth or lying I trusted her. When I told my parents because they found one of the items one day I broke down and apologized they told me it wasn't my fault but they told me that she was the one in the wrong and why it was wrong and that I only need listen to them not her. I was fortunate enough to have adults in my life to tell me that I only have to listen to my parents NOT ALL ADULTS. So I said thank you but gave my grandma the stuff back and told her I'm not ready for it yet, she sighed but seemed to respect it saying she would put it up for when I was older and could enjoy them like I should. The thing with the relationship with my grandma is she could only respect decisions to a certain extent especially mine because she thought she knew what was best for me and when I started speaking up or so I thought telling her certain things that I was not comfortable with like her setting me up for things I never asked for or never wanted she would do it anyway cutting me off saying I would love it or it would be perfect for me even though my mother father and I demanded that she cancel them. She started to set me up for sports because she said I was young and athletic and I loved to run swim play volleyball etc and modelling because she thought I had beauty ,personality and posture. I just loved to take pictures for fun just goofing around being a kid trying on different stuff because I liked it I didn't want to be forced in front of a camera because she declared I'm perfect for it I wasn't comfortable but she would take that as that was something I should be doing for a living to be that I should want to be famous or a name or be rich saying that I had talent and looks and that I and my parents were wasting my potential see the thing was, even if she thought she was right it wasn't up to her it was simply NOT HER PLACE but she never even begun to understand that nor the emotional trauma she put me through for all those years. As those years went by every time she got close to me again she would keep trying saying that I didn't know what I was giving up bargaining with my parents saying that I was letting my life be mediocre I finally had enough other thing that I went through in the life including dealing with her puppeteering I finally had had enough I responded saying that my life is what I choose to make it not you I confronted her that night for the first time ever saying that I wasn't scared of her anymore and that I love her but she had to stop this obsession because I knew she loved me but when she acted like this it was obsession not love and I at 14 had finally figured out and understood the difference. I ended it by saying this is my life I will take control of how I am going to live it either be apart of it or stay out she semi apologized and said she didn't want to lose her granddaughter I told her I loved her but she needed to let go and let me live my life my way. Now we are on okay terms I will always love her and I occasionally see her she does still say certain things here and there with undertone meaning but she knows I will not have it and I will cut her out if I need to she listened and we proceeded to hang out and have a good time but I still keep her at a distance because I know all the damage she has done. I have forgiven her but I will not forget that she almost made me lose my spirit and I will always protect it. I am saying this because I am happy now though I am still figuring out who I am I am content. I was really happy to come across this video and see that Maddie like me learned that its ok to be grateful for the things a certain person taught and encouraged in you while also realizing you were in a toxic environment/relationship and to cut that person off/ or distance yourself and finding peace in that, that is beautiful and oh so worth it and I want every girl or boy who have gone through this to know that your not alone and it is ok and not awful to push people like this away because they will do more harm then good and you always want to keep your spirit that belongs to you and you alone and NO ONE can take it from you. That being said I hope everyone has a blessed day😊
Abby Miller, a grown woman, told an 8 year old kid, Maddie, "none of your friends are happy for you, everyone is jealous of you, better get used to losing your friends, its lonely at the top" she broke up Maddies friendships which were none of her business, and yelled at Maddies mum, undermined and berated her in front of Maddie. Maddie and the girls would cry in the dressing rooms because they were scared of the shouting matches that would break out between Abby and the mums who were trying to fiercely defend and protect their kids from her awful behaviour. And Maddie, like a lot of the other girls, suffered panic attacks from the fear of failure and forgetting routines on stage because the pressure was too much, and whats worse is that they were trapped in contracts which disabled the mums from walking out for the sake of their childrens mental health and safety. Pushing a child to do better is one thing, which Abby Miller is good at, but she did also abuse Maddie and the other girls emotionally and verbally to varying degrees. Heck, I wouldn't have ANY interest in keeping contact with a woman who did that to me throughout my childhood, even if that woman helped me succeed. Sounds like Abby can't let go. You teach someone everything you can and then let them go, teaching is a thankless job, you just move onto the next student and get on with it, she keeps b!tching about these girls for being ungrateful, they're not ungrateful, they just don't want to talk to you anymore, which is their right. Get over it! And Jojo loves to invalidate everyone else's experiences on the show. Abby threw a chair next to Paige ffs, she made no effort to build that kids confidence and did everything the shatter it, then sent her onstage, Paige forgot her routine and then the poor girl got screamed at for it in front of her friends and the mums, and then got screamed at even more for showing any emotion at all. Its a kids dance competition, not the god damn army. And people keep using the statement "it was all for tv anyway so it doesn't matter" when you're a kid and you see your mum shouting and crying at a woman who won't stop taunting her child, I'm sure that feels very real to them, so don't gimme that crap.
Good for you Maddy...that stuff was outta control. All the yelling was a bit shocking. 😬 I don't think adults should be allowed to yell at kids the way that you were yelled at, or bossed around. I'm glad you're speaking out about it. Very very brave dude.

Maddie is also grateful but traumatized. She was there since the beginning and started very young. Jojo showed up when the show was almost over. She was older and much more aware of what the show was all about.
She is grateful for what the SHOW did for her... it gave her a career, but she doesn't have to be grateful to Abby because if you were in their shoes... with having to endure/survive a toxic and mentally/emotionally abusive teacher, especially at such a young age... as much as Abby did teach them you do not get to tell others to be grateful for the mistreatment they received when they were literal children.
Abby will always try to take credit for Maddies' success, that's just who she is. The fact is that Maddie has been a stand out star from the beginning. Abby saw that and pounced, knowing that one day she'll "get credit". Maddie is a straight badass and is far above Abby in every way, professionally and personally.
That's bc Abby had every right to Maddie. Abby made Maddie. Abby hated Chloe bc she was better than Maddie naturally. Abby had to create Maddie by giving her extra practice, teaching her solos before everyone else, and bribing the judges. Chloe won without any extra practice, less time to learn her routines, and while Abby tried to talk the judges into deducting points. So yes, Abby had ownership over everything Maddie became and nothing over any of the other girls. No help from Abby and no extra privates and producers backing you either. She just had pure talent and Abby HATED that.
The Maddie haters thriving on here lmao. (Not to the OG comment). Abby did not “make” Maddie. She offered her more training and treated her more kindly, yes, but Abby on her own didn’t do anything. It was the tv show, the platform, that got Maddie noticed by Sia, and it’s because of Sia that she reached the fame she has today. Abby had NO connection with Sia. Sia reached out privately to Maddie. Without the tv show, none of the kids would’ve gotten the fame they did. Name one person who got as big as Maddie did before the show from Abby’s studio. Nobody. Before the show, Brooke was the favorite, not Maddie. Kelly even admitted that. And even then, Maddie was beating the girls, Chloe included, left and right. This was before the “super secret lessons” and favoritism. So clearly, Maddie would’ve made it even without them if a literal 7 year old had an undefeated year. Chloe was better than Maddie naturally, but natural talent is nothing without the work put into it. Chloe had more natural talent than Maddie even before the show. She had the perfect body. But who came out on top in more competitions - Maddie. If you don’t believe me, LoomerE has a video with official scoresheets. Maddie beat/placed higher than Chloe around 20 times before the show, while Chloe did around 3. Maddie was always the harder worker. Maddie didn’t plateau in the later seasons, Abby’s training just wasn’t challenging her anymore. Then she started training with real, professional choreographers like Brian Friedman and this world renowned choreographer complimented her on her own spark and what she did to the number. This “spark” is something no teacher can teach.
She's angry at the wrong person. Her mother signed her up for the show & kept her there week after week. If the environment was so toxic, it was her mother's responsibility to remove her from it.
EXACTLY. At the end of the day, non of this was an issue when she was touring and being favored over everyone. Her mother said nothing. I understand Abby being over the top by making the environment toxic but WHO drove them their everyday? It is crazy how they won’t even call her for being sick no I stand by that. Because at the end of the day she invested In These kids. A little call to say get well is NOTHING hard to do.
Y’all are ridiculous. Yes, Melissa is partially to blame, but at the end of the day, a bully is a bully and that’s that. If someone comes up to you and hands you their child and you beat the child, and they bring the child back, are you all of a sudden free of guilt?
@@fantasyaldc8802 no quite frankly Melissa is to blame if it was that toxic of an environment she could have pulled her but she didn't want to pull her kids from that because she wanted every opportunity that came from that show. She wanted to try and be like Kris Jenner and she's not even a fit to hold Kris Jenner's purse
@@dancer4life273 It was mostly Abby’s fault for making it that toxic of an environment. If literal 9 year olds are having panic attacks, crying themselves to sleep at night because they think Abby hates them, and don’t want to come to class because their passion and love has been beaten out of them, then that’s an issue on the teacher. The teacher gets paid to teach and treat their students well, not cause anxiety and other mental health issues.
@@dancer4life273 can we not pick sides.. not all situations are pointing fingers to only one person. this is the case where both the parents AND abby were in the wrong. the parents for allowing their children to continue in such a toxic environment, and abby for being super mean on the show. there’s a fine line between strict and mean, and abby crossed it. any logical person would know that the way abby behaved was very harmful to a child mentally; the things she would do and say in front of them was so not appropriate, and even if it was for a reality tv show or not, that DOESN’T make it okay. as for the parents, it was their responsibility to do their job and to protect their kids from these kinds of environments but they chose not to because of the idea that their daughters would become stars.
Maddie’s feelings are absolutely valid. She acknowledges Abby Lee’s role in her fame and success, but she also has the maturity to recognize that Abby Lee is a toxic individual who has harmed her growth. I applaud her for keeping her distance.
My personal experience with psycho people is that they don't do the bad treatment to EVERYONE. So when the badly treated trying to talk to someone the one receiving good treatment will just brush it off, saying it is not true and accusing of making stories. So the person receiving bad treatment will start to doubt themselves and spiral deeper into depression. Probably not related to this story cuz I don't know this show and what is considered toxic.
Maddie's looking for free publicity for her fabletics collection and her movie projects. Time for her to grow up dance moms has been over for years and she's been off the show longer than that. I hope Abby and Collins entertainment sues her for defamation
@@dancer4life273 yeah it’s a good thing you have no idea how the law works. The last thing Abby wants is for the truth to come out. By the way, you have to be a sick person to go after Maddie who isn’t even old enough to drink. Get a life Abby, we see you!

@@ellemarr7234 by the way if Abby was so toxic why did Melissa sign Guardianship to her when Melissa just had to get away with her boyfriend? Why did they stay at the studio if it was so toxic?
I'm just happy that Maddie is happy and stable now. She doesn't need to hear her name being talked about by adults every one minute and she's not hurting or stressing because of Abby anymore
I completely forgot about that show. A lot of people seem to be having conflicting opinions here. They were all kids and it’s completely fine if the majority of them don’t want to have a relationship with someone that caused them trauma. While I do also think all the adults in this situation are to blame, I don’t think it’s Maddie’s or any of the girls fault for having negative emotions towards their instructor. I barely saw any of the show when it was on the air because I couldn’t believe this woman could treat children like that, let alone be comfortable with it being aired. Show biz Or not, if my kid was in a dance school and their instructor yelled and berated them like that and then me for sticking up for my kid, we’d be out of there so quick. You don’t have to tear someone down so you can rebuild them. That’s a really toxic way of teaching.
I agree, except for the part when you said all the moms are to blame. The earlier moms like Christi and Holly and others didn’t realize what the show would exactly bring.
@@berrisfueller6221 Yes, they originally signed up for a 6-week documentary and then somehow the producers legally entrapped them for a 6-year show. To be unable to leave was likely tr**matizing in and of itself. It's one thing for JoJo, Kalani, etc's families to willingly sign up for that (although I don't think the parents should have done that to their children), but to only sign up for such a small period of time and then be, in a way, k*dnapped for years was SO awful.
How many times must we relive this drama with them. They should blame their mother who was desperate and would’ve sold them up a river if it gave them fame and fortune
There wasn't a "Dance Mom" show. It was Abby dance studio and people was interested in her first and the girls. But it was both the girls and Abby who made dance moms bigger.
Jojo is a businesswoman. She always wanted to be in the entertain business and she took the hits to get to where she is. She knew dance moms would launch her and it did give her great experiences. I’m sure Abby has made peace with the moms never speaking to her and the girls as well. She is living out the rest of her life now, she can’t worry about one chapter of it.
The bottom line is her mother allowed her to be in a toxic environment from a young age. Shame on any parent who exposes their child for monetary gain/fame. Sad!
the environment wasn't that bad in the begin but it got worse. No one expected it to get worse. They also couldn't just up and leave the show because they had a contract.
exactly! Those moms were just as toxic. Christie and Kelly were the only two who finally decided to put their kids first. The others wanted their kids to be famous and blamed Abby instead of themselves for their poor parenting.
Actually, because Melissa's family were OGs, they originally signed up for a 6-week documentary and then somehow the producers legally entrapped them for a 6-year show. (Again, this only applies to the OGs, including Cathy and Vivi. Abby was also tricked and entrapped, but with a slightly different contract.) To be unable to leave like that was likely tr**matizing in and of itself. It's one thing for JoJo, Kalani, etc's families to willingly sign up for that (although I don't think the parents should have done that to their children), but to only sign up for such a small period of time and then be, in a way, k*dnapped for years was SO awful. Melissa did do other things that seemed fame-hungry, but I just wanted to clarify that her getting her kids on the show was not her choice.
Everyone who watched the show knows it was toxic... When it comes to maddy, I'm surprised because she was the one who was treated the best ,and her family was privileged compared to the other kids.
Having money doesn’t necessarily mean you have a great home life it’s been said that their father was very neglectful and their mother was having an affair with her boss who was possibly also married at the time that’s not exactly a great upbringing for a child.
Everything is not what it seems, don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Obsession is not healthy. And that’s not being treated the best, that’s called manipulation.
That’s why you don’t pick favorites. That’s the thanks abbey gets for making her a star⭐️ and giving her the opportunity. Jo jo is super humble and will never forget where she came from
Abby didn’t make her a star or give her any opportunity lmfao. *Producers* casting her on Dance Moms gave her the platform and chose things like who got solos every week, and Abby wasn’t even her actual teacher (or supposed to be on the show at all in the first place). She was the dance studio owner, while people like Gianna, Mark and Matt etc. were working with & correcting her and demonstrating. She doesn’t talk to her now because she’s out of that environment can clearly see the effects of her abuse, grooming and manipulation at the hands of Abby? She’s not going to pretend to like a woman who contributed to her PTSD and having consistent anxiety breaks and attacks. Maddie has thanked Dance Moms and her training (and even Abby herself, which she doesn’t need to) literally several times.. She’s never “forgotten where she’s came from” pls.
I am so happy that these girls stay in touch and have such a close relationship with each other even though Abby tried to pin them against each other so often
Abby was mean and racist to Nia. To this day, I don’t care for Nia’a mom. She did not protect her daughter. Nia, cried a lot from Abby’s insults. The other moms, said nothing as well.
@@JoyOgbatue but she still stayed and brought Nia back to the studio because of the "bigger picture". Nothing should be bigger than making sure your daughter is not subjected to racist comments and treatment. I had to stop watching the show because Abby was beyond cruel to those girls, especially Nia.
I feel like Maddie (Abby’s favorite) refusing to talk to Abby and keeping contact with Nia is the only thing thing has the potential to hold Abby accountable for her actions. But of course Abby is using this to victimize herself instead of taking any accountability for the harm she causes.
@@cayndii30 it’s called having to be in a 6 six season contract, duh? 🙄 That’s why they couldn’t leave the show. Like really? Have you ever watched the show?
Her mother allegedly took a legal deal to avoid any investigations into her contributions to the federal indictment Abby was facing. Also, she didn’t need to use Abby anymore. Maddie had, “Made it.” Wake up, people… if they were as rich as they always bragged about on the show (from a wealthy step daddy), why didn’t he just contribute to the legal fees to break the contract? Because the money and fame was worth more at the time than principals and beliefs they now claim to have. Get with it.
Funny because they never claimed they were “rich” on the show. Melissa even admitted to having to work Front desk to pay for privates. Seems you all like to make stuff up.
@@fantasyaldc8802 They aren't Melissa married a rich guy. In the first season she even says my boyfriend knows how much I spend on dance because he signs the checks. I think it was the season two Christmas special that Abby gifted Melissa a certificate to a match maker and made a comment about Melissa needing a millionaire boyfriend. Melissa responded to that by saying I don't need one I already have a millionaire HUSBAND. You also see Melissa driving a brand new Audi after they got married. Melissa only worked at the front desk to PAY for her girls dance in the very beginning why she kept working it after he was paying leads me to believe it was just another way for her to kiss up to Abby and assign her daughters privates first.
@@fantasyaldc8802 Melissa was in charge of the books. Funny how payments prior to dance moms made it it to creditors for the bankruptcy but after the show started some how got misplaced.
To be fair: The SHOW got them to where they are, Abby was the dance teacher who taught them the steps and from there the show was what sky rocketed. Abby was INCREDIBLY manipulative to the girls on the show, so i can understand why a majority of them are distancing themselves. They all know where they came from, but they also know where they are most at peace with themselves and that can be away from Abby
And Abby didn’t even teach them 😭 None of them interacted with her much pre-show, cause their ACTUAL teachers (Gianna, Mark, Matt, etc.) were demonstrating the steps and teaching them moves and skills, then correcting them, while Abby was the dance studio owner. On the show, the girls knew most of their solos before the season even started, and they were essentially just polishing them and making sure had them memorized.
Cheryl Burke, from the "Dancing With The Stars" dancing competition TV show, did try to help out the "Dance Moms" in it's final season, as a coach, before the show finally got cancelled in 2019. For Abby, it was either: Maddie, Maddie's sister (Mc)Kenzie (Ziegler) or Chloe (Lukasiak); or any replacement who could become the next "Maddie." I did feel bad for Nia (with her doctor mom, Holly) and Kaya "Black Patsy" (a Dance Mom) and Asia (Monet) Ray, three of the few African-American figures on the show; Lexine (Maxine (Cantoria)'s daughter; an Asian girl) and Tua (Shayna (Tevaga)'s daughter): the latter two was from Season 1): Patsy was feisty; she was nicknamed after Patsy Ramsey (the wacky Dance Mom of the late child pageant star, JonBenet Ramsey); I liked the long-time ongoing rivalry between Abby (ALDC) and Cathy (Candy Apples); the Candy Apples had broken up in Season 5 to become Jeanette's BDA.
People in the comments really don't understand the entertainment industry is pressure enduring and stressful, Abby while dramatic was being normal in terms of her job. It isn't an easy job and this is how they push for quality and bring the best out of people
@Josh Johnston It's the mums, they should've known what's best for their child at that age, all the mom's thrived off of the money they all received and the fame they were getting which attracted further business for the girls. They were just children Abby set their careers but it's the parents that should say what's enough and obviously Maddies mum and many others didn't.
Kinda yes I agree but also what adults don't realize is that they are so little and children are sensitive so if they are too hard on them then the heartbreak can stay with them for the longest time
I disagree she wasn’t pushing for the best of them she was pushing for wins which is why so many of Maddy‘s routines contained the same elements and they weren’t really challenged with new technique only at perfecting technique they’ve done for years. They needed a teacher that cared more about their progress than their number of wins which is something Maddy mentioned.
Melissa played the industry game and played it well. Nothing wrong with the girls distancing themselves from Abby. They paid for her classes and she was an amazing teacher but could be extremely toxic, constantly pitting them against each other. They don't owe her anything. On the flip side it's also nice that Jojo continues to have a relationship with her.
@@02loud The rest of the mums paid too for classes. Thats the thing. Abby make sure Maddie was always given first pick when it came to opportunities, solos etc

I'm a huge fan of the show. (Ironically I am watching it again right now as I type) I don't think I really understood the pressure and stress on everyone until I watched dance moms uncovered. I hope one day all the girls will be able to maybe message Abby. But I think as young adults they are finding who they are, & I'm sure there is trauma to work through on all parts. I just hope eventually they will be ok with just saying hi or visiting Abby. She did alot for them. Although I have mixed feelings because of the way Abby was especially in later seasons. They all did something right, because they are definitely stars, but was it completely worth all of it. I don't know
good for her. she owes her nothing. if anything, abby ought to be thanking maddie for carrying that show on her back. what an absolutely horrible, horrible person. I had a bitch for a dance teacher too and I had to leave the studio once she began harassing me and my family. between abby and the weird relationship with sia, i'm pleasantly surprised by how well maddie has turned out.
Thank you for this comment. They were fine living in the toxic environment to make money and gain fame. To each his own. They don't have to talk to her anymore. But let's not ignore that these parent put their children in this environment and kept them there when all of us were screaming at the TV saying "GET OUT OF THERE!!!".
The parents were in a contract not the kids ! And who’s fault was that???? Not Abby’s who’s signed the contract ? And I don’t care ! If a woman was abusing my kids and you had evidence of abuse Any judges would have let them out easily if there was child abuse ! This is all fake PR Bullshit
having that much pressure to be perfect at only 8 yrs old is not ok, they made that kid do multiple dances every week, they tired her out, abby literally screamed at maddie and guilt tripped her all bcuz she didn’t show up to dance one day , that’s horrible
People praise jojo for still being friends with abby But it's literally so obvious abby only wanted something to do with jojo when she became famous Abby in a podcast INFRONT OF ALL the girls said she loved jojo but didn't want her there She was also very mean to jojo and jeslyn many times Honestly it's toxic that jojo still accosiates with abby so much after all she did to her and the girls I get having respect but I think jojo should keep her distance as abby has clearly not changed her ways. People keep trying to justifying abbys teaching methods but there's a difference between constructive criticism and tough love Compared to being straight up disrespectful
This show was disgusting. The producers should be ashamed of themselves. The amount of abuse was so appalling just watching commercials made me sick to my stomach. I don’t know what people “liked” about this show, or why they would want to support and encourage young girls being emotionally and mentally traumatized- but they did. I’m glad Abby got her karma. I’ve learned the longer it takes for karma to catch up with you, the harsher she is. So prison, a wheelchair, losing her “girls” and bankruptcy, then being attacked by the public is all well deserved, but she’s owed much more, and it’s coming. The mom’s were also repulsive. The way they treated their daughters, allowed this treatment to continue etc was sickening. It was never about their kids, it was about them. I know about the contract. I’d pay millions for my daughter not to be subjected to this treatment. There were also ways around it, anyone familiar with the legal system knows that. They wanted their daughters to become “stars” and it was worth the damage it did to their girls, sick. If the girls ever read this- I hope every one of you are doing well and you’re happy with yourself. Whether you have fame or not doesn’t matter, as long as you have peace within you. This wasn’t normal and no one, especially a child, should have to endure such horrific abuse. I hope you realize Abby is a sick woman and people like her abuse other people to make up for their own insecurities, and to feel some sense of power. It had nothing to do with you. Take all the time you need to heal. Love yourself, always. 💕

I have always loved the Zieglers! Especially Maddie. I have always adored her. However, no matter what happened in the past with Abby and her family, there was absolutely NO excuse for Maddie not contacting Abby when she was in the Hospital with Cancer and almost passed away. Maddie did not even text or send her a card, much less call or visit. I think that is horrible. Abby still loves Maddie like she was her own child and Abby made certain to open doors for Maddie to become the celeb and millionaire she is now. That lack of judgement on Maddie's part really disappointed me. I am sure Maddie's agents told Maddie it is not in her best interest to associate with Abby any longer. But, I think when Maddie gets older and looks back on things with 20/20 hindsight she will regret her lack of actions. Especially when Abby passes. Maddie will feel so much regret. I still love Maddie but I wish Maddie would reach out to Abby before it is too late.
Abby was straight up abusive to her students in that show. There’s no reason for any of these girls to have to defend their decision to cut her out of their life. Coaches don’t have to demean and degrade their students in order for them to succeed. Can’t imagine how much psychological damage being on that show did to all of those girls in the long term.
Back in the day they used to say Simon Cowell was a mean person but look how many people made it because of him Abby Lee is no different if it wasn't on tv nobody would even heard about these kids they all should be thanking her for their careers

@@doggylover108 Well yes she wasnt perfect and Abby should be apologizing to her students about her behaivor some situations were nasty, but producers were the ones who provoked situations.
Abby was abusive. Maddie owes her nothing and I'm glad she left, went no-contact, and feels zero guilt. Anyone else's two cents on how they think she should have handled it is completely irrelevant.
Without the show they would be just little girls from Pittsburgh. They would have been average students except for Chloe and Nia cuz they were straight a students
all the girls were kind of destroyed by Abby and they didn't want to dance anymore when they left the show but I'm happy for Maddie for saying what's right
There are so many horrendous moments of Abby’s that in my book she’s right up there with the worst people in history given a platform but that moment when Mackenzie is struggling to pull out the red carpet and Abby just sits there laughing at her cemented my mindset that if there is a hell, Abby will be there; could it have been they edited it out that way perhaps but all her actions from the way she tormented Chloe with her belittling (and all of them) to how she always made herself the victim throughout the show lead me to think otherwise from her. May all those kids and anyone that crosses her path be able to wash their hands of her!
She was a child. So I’m not understanding all this back and forth between her and her dance coach. Where were her parents? Why did her mom allow her child to stay in a toxic situation?
Jojo said it very well that she doesn't forget where she came from and to me that makes her the most humble and respectful towards Abby. I've always respected Jojo and she in my opinion has come out on top of the rest of the girls.
I definitely think it's okay for her to make the decision to never talk to Abby Lee Miller again. It was obvious from the show that Abby didn't give a sh*t about the mental wellbeing of any of her students and could be downright cruel and abusive at times. I do wonder how Maddie feels towards her parents. Melissa is almost as guilty as Abby in all of this. She repeatedly put Maddie and Mackenzie in this situation and kept them around Abby until they didn't need Abby anymore. I can't think of any good parent who would willingly subject their children to that kind of bullying for fame.
Everyone knew Abby was toxic towards Maddie and all the other girls. People downplay it by saying that she is a "skillful" choreographer when she is so large in size, doesnt dance hires other choreographers probably pays them but wants to own the title of being the "dance instructor".
Maddie and her mom never thought it was toxic the whole time Abby made Maddie her number 1 girl and she had done no wrong. Several of those girl were good and weren’t given a chance that Maddie was. No of these girls were actually top notch and even Maddie was shown that when Asia Monet game to the studio. You can bet Maddie was glad that asiA wasn’t in her age group because Maddie wasn’t in Asia’s league. Obviously Maddie has forgotten where she has come from. Yes Abby was rough, my child wouldn’t of danced under her, but Maddie really didn’t suffer what the other girls did
A lot of the girls and moms don’t talk to Abby anymore but they’re still friends with each other to this day. That’s a happy ending if you ask me 🤷🏾♀️

People are upset because Maddie is a little snot who has forgotten where she came from.
Probably because people feel her and sia have a toxic relationship she went from one to the other
As a young child ( which she was ) at the time she started with Abby.

And so does Sia.

Abby said on a podcast INFRONT OF JOJO that she loved her but didn't want her there in dance moms
Abby didn’t want jojo. The producers fought for her knowing how the audience reacted to her. Abby actually fought against her multiple times.

Good for Maddie!! She deserves whatever comes her way. The young lady has worked for everything she’s gotten. Abby is just as mean as she was before.
@@ellemarr7234 Abby knows a little more that would be damaging if the truth came out. Abby was right when she stated she trusted the wrong person. Abby has a right to call out her idiotic accuser- but she learned from the best. Her mother. Little FYI, if Maddie's antics start affecting Abby's livelihood she can sue for defamation. Your original comment Maddie hadn't had to work hard to get things most of her projects were connected to Sia, who has been kicked to the curb like they do everyone else when they are done with them.
@@ellemarr7234 by the way if Abby was so toxic why did Melissa sign Guardianship to her when Melissa just had to get away with her boyfriend? Why did they stay at the studio if it was so toxic?
She was handed a lot of things but sure.
Show biz
Or not, if my kid was in a dance school and their instructor yelled and berated them like that and then me for sticking up for my kid, we’d be out of there so quick. You don’t have to tear someone down so you can rebuild them. That’s a really toxic way of teaching.
I agree, except for the part when you said all the moms are to blame. The earlier moms like Christi and Holly and others didn’t realize what the show would exactly bring.
If you wanted to leave you had to pay a MINIMUM of $100,000 and have your child blackballed from the industry
@@berrisfueller6221 Yes, they originally signed up for a 6-week documentary and then somehow the producers legally entrapped them for a 6-year show. To be unable to leave was likely tr**matizing in and of itself. I’m glad Jojo is grateful for Dance Moms, and I’m happy for Maddie fro being strong and not letting anyone pressure her into a toxic relationship.
I can’t believe it…
Maddie’s a actress now..
Kenzie’s a singer..
Their mother must be so fricking proud!
How many times must we relive this drama with them. They should blame their mother who was desperate and would’ve sold them up a river if it gave them fame and fortune
Well said..
I didn't see her blame she just moved on with her life like most people do when they become adults
Can't blame her. Protect your energy queen!
There wasn't a "Dance Mom" show. It was Abby dance studio and people was interested in her first and the girls. But it was both the girls and Abby who made dance moms bigger.
aw that picture of nia and maddie grown up made me smile.
Sad!
This isn't in a hating way but please do your research, in 2011 the ogs auditioned for the show, THEY CHOSE
the environment wasn't that bad in the begin but it got worse.
I bet if she hadn't become famous as such yet and Abby show was still going.. Maddie would still be on the show
Definitely
Honestly I thought about that too but I think maybe she would have moved on like Brooke did and become burnt out.
Maddie was burned out and wanted to leave by Season 4.
@@fantasyaldc8802 yeah I agree I think she would have left or find other opportunities like broad way.
Everyone who watched the show knows it was toxic...
When it comes to maddy, I'm surprised because she was the one who was treated the best ,and her family was privileged compared to the other kids.
It doesn't mean Maddy was compfortable with it.
They were all privileged except Jojo
Having money doesn’t necessarily mean you have a great home life it’s been said that their father was very neglectful and their mother was having an affair with her boss who was possibly also married at the time that’s not exactly a great upbringing for a child.
The producers knew which mom too cuddle up to so to speak cuz I would put their child out in the forefront and of course that was Melissa.
Holly did stand up to Abby when it came to get racist comments towards Nia.
NIA DIDN'T CRY ALOT! AND HOLLY STANDS UP FOR NIA AND THE OTHER KIDS ALL THE TIME!!!!
Maddie had, “Made it.”
Wake up, people… if they were as rich as they always bragged about on the show (from a wealthy step daddy), why didn’t he just contribute to the legal fees to break the contract?
Because the money and fame was worth more at the time than principals and beliefs they now claim to have.
Get with it.
🙌
THIS!!!
Jojo wasn't dismissing Maddy's experience or any of the other girls' experiences. She was simply stating her own.
Kinda yes I agree but also what adults don't realize is that they are so little and children are sensitive so if they are too hard on them then the heartbreak can stay with them for the longest time
Telling children that they’re fat and ugly isn’t normal youre just a sociopath
I disagree she wasn’t pushing for the best of them she was pushing for wins which is why so many of Maddy‘s routines contained the same elements and they weren’t really challenged with new technique only at perfecting technique they’ve done for years. They needed a teacher that cared more about their progress than their number of wins which is something Maddy mentioned.
"Never put all your eggs in one basket" Christi and Kelly were right about Melissa.
💯
Melissa played the industry game and played it well. Nothing wrong with the girls distancing themselves from Abby. They paid for her classes and she was an amazing teacher but could be extremely toxic, constantly pitting them against each other. They don't owe her anything. On the flip side it's also nice that Jojo continues to have a relationship with her.

Thank you for this comment. They were fine living in the toxic environment to make money and gain fame. To each his own. They don't have to talk to her anymore. But it's literally so obvious abby only wanted something to do with jojo when she became famous
Abby in a podcast INFRONT OF ALL the girls said she loved jojo but didn't want her there
She was also very mean to jojo and jeslyn many times
Honestly it's toxic that jojo still accosiates with abby so much after all she did to her and the girls
I get having respect but I think jojo should keep her distance as abby has clearly not changed her ways.
People keep trying to justifying abbys teaching methods but there's a difference between constructive criticism and tough love
Compared to being straight up disrespectful
I also feel if Jojo didn't receive the fame she got Abby wouldn't even acknowledge her anymore
People who are shaming Maddie for not talking to Abby have their own issues with toxicity
I love, love, love Jojo’s hairstyle! 😍
Hi Janet how are you doing?
The fact she felt guilty for leaving the show shows how much trauma she’s been thru.
We always feel guilty for leaving the narcissist, don't we
This show was disgusting.

To be honest Abby treated Maddie like her own child...she loved her😢
Nah
You might need therapy if you think that was normal parental love.

Correction without the show neither of them would have. But tbh Maddie would have because she was cast for Broadway before the show
She was a child.
Yes Abby was rough, my child wouldn’t of danced under her, but Maddie really didn’t suffer what the other girls did
I would love to see a show where they’re trying to figure out and navigate being an adult
