I was wondering why the fear of falling was associated with hands, then I realized they weren’t hands reaching out to grab, they were hands reaching out to push
Game: "Mari is dead." Me: "Oh...that's pretty sad." Game: "She died falling down stairs after a fight with Sunny, and it's implied that he pushed her off, even if it was an accident." Me: "Shit. Maybe that's why Sunny is so traum-" Game: "And then Basil helped Sunny hang her corpse to make it look like suicide, and the one-eyed ghost thingy you see through the game is the image of Mari's eye peeking through her hair burned into Sunny's brain due to guilt." Me: "Wha-" Game: "And the trauma was so bad that Sunny locked himself away from the world for the last 4 year, never to speak with his friends again." Me: "Wait..." Game: "That left Basil alone with his own trauma and guilt, which got so bad that it pushed him to the verge of suicide." Me: "Please..." Game: "Speaking of guilt, Sunny's friends were forever filled with guilt because they didn't see the signs of Mari's suicidal thoughts and feel like they did nothing to help her, and that destroyed their lives pretty bad. Like Aubrey felt abandoned by everyone and became a delinquent and Hero gave up on his dream of becoming a chef." Me: "Stop..."
i don't think basil literally took pictures of the events of mari's death this is a personal interpretation, but the photos felt more representative of their memories if anything
@@mateuszludkowski4700 WOAH CALM DOWN JAMAL, although it makes basil have this darker side to him, to be fair he was only a child. They were all children. Watching mari die by the hands of his friend must’ve been traumatizing. No one was thinking straight.
It was her fault. He only wanted to spend time with her and playing violin was the only way. But it was too hard for him and quit. Then when Mari saw, she get angry with him and try to grab him but he pushed her and she fell down the stairs. He didn’t mean to push her that hard. It was her fault for not noticing that her brother needed her.
@@sylvsworld7419 i think it wasn’t, she maybe didn’t take the hint that sunny was really stressed out, and was probably more confused because The Whole group payed for that 🎻
@@sylvsworld7419 yeah, she is chill for most of the game, so i don´t think it was a discussion that bad, the only different thing would be that.... the sister got killed XD From my point of view, it was only an accident there is no one to blame
My vision : spoiler! Be careful! Mari was someone kind and all but she also was someone too perfectionist, with the recital she surely put some pressure on Sunny's shoulders, it wasn't on purpose, she maybe didn't realize it. After all, Mari was someone rather confident, she maybe not though about the fact that her brother was not as tough as her. Sunny is obviously someone shy and easily anxious ( by the way, when he got a violin for his birthday, his thoughts wasn't a burst of happiness, but anxiety because he didn't wanted to disappoint anyone) Sunny should have tell that the pressure of the recital was too hard but again, he was maybe afraid of disappoint everyone. But at some point the pressure was too much and he snapped, throwing his violin through the stair and breaking it. Mari got mad at him and began to yell at him, she maybe should have being more patient and she should have tried to understand more quietly why he did that. But she was angry because she bought this violin with all their friends, and the recital was near so she clearly was mad for understandable reasons. Maybe because Sunny didn't answered, she tried to grab him for make sure that he listened to her but Sunny reflex was to push her away. Unfortunately they was close to the stair and she made a deadly fall. Basil who was here, witnessed the scene and was shocked by it ( As he is Sunny best friend, he was surely here for encouraging Sunny before the recital, we saw on one photo that he seem to wear a clean white jacket, he was dressed for the recital.) At the beginning, Sunny didn't believe that his sister was dead and he just took her for put her in her bed. On one photo, he smile, maybe because he is reassuring himself like '' it's ok, that's nothing, that's just a little fall '' But, arrived in the bedroom he realized that she didn't breathed anymore, she probably died by breaking her neck so it was already too late. He was so shocked that he made a catatonia crisis ( we saw that Basil try to shake him but he seem... Kinda absent, it seem normal to be so much shocked by the sudden death of someone that you just get paralyzed with horror and denial, especially in this case because he was the one who pushed her. ) Basil panicked ( he was 12 years old, he just saw his best friend, the person he seem to like the most in the world, committed accidental murder, Mari was already dead, he couldn't save her) so on the spot he was unable to think logically so the first thing he though about was to hang her in the garden for framing the accident into suicide ( because he didn't accepted that his best friend could have done that, because he was afraid for him to be hated, punished when he know that he didn't did it on purpose, he was a child, maybe on the moment he just... Panicked like a child, fearing to be send in jail, fearing that anyone knew what Sunny did. ) Sunny didn't mean to kill her of course, he loved her, he would never have done something like that on purpose. Obviously, we can see how much he blame himself during '' SunnyvsOmori'' he loved her and think he deserve to die too for being the cause of her death. ( By the way, as we saw them fighting in front of the stair, it could have being him who fell, it was purely an accident, but a accident that will ruin his life, him and Basil.) And for Basil, he didn't mean to do something bad or evil or whatever. He was just afraid, shocked, panicked, he was a child and he wasn't prepared at what he have witnessed. He's already someone overly shy and fragile, he just didn't knew what to do. And as Sunny was surely catatonic, as they were alone in the house, he was alone for dealing with what happened so he acted in pure instinct. And we know that latter, with a fresh view on what happened, he knew himself that he didn't acted the better way, this is why he feel so guilty and spend his time to apologize. He was victim of the circumstances and of his lack of composure. So framing her death into suicide was obviously bad because they should have say that it was an accident. But they were children and it happened so brutality that they just panicked. This is my version, I didn't assume it to be Canon but it seem rather logical to me I think they deserve forgiveness, they already pay what happened, even if their friends forgive them, theirs lives will never be the same without Mari, they will never find the same happiness that they had before. Just because of a dumb accident, it's so sad because the game insist very much on how pure and happy theirs friendship was when they were all together. I think this sad reality it's enough paiement for them. I was so moved by this game that I felt the urge of writing this block text xD sorry Btw sorry for the possible mispealing, English is not my native language Edit : so yeah this is canon now. Someone founded some files were the photos of the truth are accompanied by quote who describe what happened. It was an accident, Sunny did get paralyzed by horror and Basil panicked. '' Something '' is the sight they had by looking back at Mary's corpse. Her eye was open and seemed to look at them.
Wow. This was an excellent interpretation of what happened! It’s completely understandable that Sunny and Basil panicked and didn’t know what to do, and what they did was not with malicious intentions. What a tragedy, it was just an accident that scarred them for life. I like to imagine that in the future by telling the truth and getting some therapy and tons of support they will heal. Maybe not completely forgive themselves but at least not plagued by their demons.
>Sunny is obviously someone shy and easily anxious ( by the way, when he got a violin for his birthday, his thoughts wasn't a burst of happiness, but anxiety because he didn't wanted to disappoint anyone) I can feel this on a spiritual level
I think this is exactly what happened. We can clearly see it in those photos. THIS or we all misinterpret it - and it's actually just a metaphor how they feel guilty for her death because Sunny broke his violin on this important day because he wanted to play with basil and she ran off to kill herself.
@drennme 2019 Her neck broke during the fall probably. That's why hanging was the best idea in their mind. She probably also was bleeding from her nose or mouth or whatever. You can see a lot of loose fingers during this game, I have a feeling that someone got injured with the violin, or am I missing something? My main thought is still that she simply killed herself because of her perfectionism and the pure pressure and Sunny and Basil thought that they are at fault or something. That the whole point was that it's not our fault if people kill themself and that people will suffer A LOT if their beloved one dies.
before i found out about the truth behind mari's death, i thought it was an actual suicide, like i had the feeling that behind all that kindness and happiness she was secretly dealing with depression or anxiety but kept bottling up her emotions and ended up killing herself, but the actual "truth" is more convincing, but still, poor sunny and basil...
I liked the way it was. Depression became cliche after Doki Doki. And it was an indie game without random 4th wall breaks, so for me it was 10/10 just for this
@@denpagirl08 they didn’t necessarily help cover it up, but it’s implied that they both found out what happened. However there are also arguments that the dialogue implying this can be instead linked to his parents grief over not wanting “to lose” Sunny to his shut-in tendencies or (as all these come from figments in sunny’s mind/black space) that theyre him projecting his guilt onto them, imagining what they might say if they did know all the details. There was a Reddit post about datamining for captions on the Truth photo album, finding that it described Mari’s body as being not too messed up, only scratched a little - meaning no outward signs of dying from blunt force trauma, meaning it’s more plausible that her dying from strangulation wld b accepted/not investigated. At the end of the day, it can be argued either way, but them helping cover it up is purely a theory, even if they did find out.
@@nicola7021 I personally prefer the idea that his parents really don't know the truth. OMOCAT really made it look like it was the perfect crime, and the whole idea of SUNNY and BASIL being traumatized by having to keep that secret isn't as powerful if his parents knew.
yknow, it makes it a little sadder when you think about how it's more likely that when mari fell it wasnt hitting the ground that killed her, it might have actually been hitting her head on the edge of the violin
I think you’re right. We did see the end of the finger board sticking up and stuff, so a piece probably lodged itself into the side of her head. It was most likely a slow and painful death for her but she couldn’t say anything ;-;
@@megamike15 that's actually what i thought for a while, but i read somewhere that sunny panicked when he realised she wasnt breathing, so idk, but there's still a chance of it having happened and thats so sad
THE DETAILS: 0:39 You heard some scoffing from behind the wall, but paid it no notice. You were in no mood to focus. You were overcame. You were sick of everything. You know it wasn't a big deal, but you couldn't control yourself. 0:44 Your precious violin lay shattered at the bottom of the staircase. You threw it in a rage. Your fingers were shaking in pain... practicing over and over... but you still make mistakes after mistakes. This was all a bad idea. 0:49 MARI was yelling at you. You couldn't understand what she was saying. She didn't understand you at all... She didn't understand that you just weren't good enough. The only thing you hold onto was your anger. This pain... was it her fault? 0:54 MARI blocked your path. She says that she isn't finished talking. She tells you not to run away... but why not? You did this all for her! Why was she yelling at you? You didn't understand... 1:01 You lose all sense and push her down the staircase. 1:06 You watched MARI crush on top of your broken violin. The sound wakes you up to nothing but silence. You called out to her, but she doesn't answer. Your heart sinks into your stomach. 1:08 It happened in an instant. You didn't mean to do that. Well, you did mean to push her, didn't you? It was an accident, right? You're not sure. You tremble your way down the staircase. 1:11 You call her name, but she doesn't answer. You sweep the bits of wood from her body. Nothing but scratches. You turn her around and see her face. She looks asleep... but then, why isn't she answering? 1:14 You pick up Mari and drag her up the stairs. She feels lighter than you think. She just needs to lie down in a bed... She just needs some rest... 1:20 Your heart beats out of your chest. Your head feels fuzzy. You lose vision. You push the door to the bedroom open, and make your way to her bed. She's going to be okay, right? This is just a dream, right? 1:22 You call her name over and over, but she doesn't answer. You watch the light from the window cast a shadow over her face. She's expressionless. You sink your fingers into her arm, and break down into tears. 1:27 You want to scream for help, but you're afraid... you mumble to yourself... what if they ask what happened? There's no way you can tell them the truth. Who would be able to forgive him? Who would believe... that it was... an accident? 1:29 A whisper comes from behind you, but you ignore it. A cry comes from behind you, but you ignore it. You cover your face with your arms. This isn't real. None of this real. Why won't you wake up? 1:33 Everything appears dark. The shadows slither around you. You don't understand what is happening... Your head starts to feel fuzzy... You sink into a crevice in your mind... an empty white room. 1:36 Your shoulders feel heavy. A familiar voice whispers something unspeakable. Your eyes widen. It tells you to follow its lead. It says... it's the only way out... It says... that everything will be okay. 1:57 You pick up MARI's body and lift it down the staircase. She feels lighter than you think. You feel multiple eyes shift their gaze to you. You keep your eyes toward the ground. 2:01 You hear the sliding of a familiar door. A voice tells you to walk. A gist of wind enters the room as the light outside engulfs you. You keep your eyes toward the ground. 2:03 As you face forward, you listen to the crunching of the grass and feel the coolness of the wind. You hear the leaves in the trees riffle as the sun begins to set... but you try to ignore it. It's all just a dream... 2:07 You lay down MARI’s body and look up for the first time. Small rays of light shine through the cracks in the leaves. You relish in its beauty and savor the moment. You think... even if this is all real, if you keep looking at the leaves, that... everything will be okay. 2:09 You hear pacing, the crunching of the grass sifting back and forth. You think you see a figure pick something off the ground, but you’re not sure. You keep staring at the leaves overhead. Everything will be okay... You think... Everything will be okay. 2:10 You hear shuffling. You hear dragging... and creaking... and pulling. Something is happening, but you refuse to look away from the leaves. Your head feels fuzzy again. You bite your tongue and attempt to wake up one last time, but it’s no use... You’re still here. 2:11 As you and BASIL step into the house, you look back towards the trees and see it. The light engulfs it as it sways in the wind... For a moment, you feel at peace. You hate yourself for feeling this way. Is that all, then? Is everything going to be okay now? 2:13 You feel a cold hand clutch yours. You try to jerk away, but it squeezes back; unwilling to let you go. The hand drags you backward. You look up and see your best friend for the first time... BASIL. You see the tears falling from his tired eyes as he looks ahead. You suddenly realize that none of this is a dream. All of this is real. 2:15 Suddenly, BASIL stops. You look up at his eyes... but this time, they’re wide awake, staring at Something. You turn your eyes toward it as well, though you wish you didn’t. An eye meets yours. Your heart sinks into your stomach. You shouldn’t have looked back... You just... shouldn’t... have looked...
Me before this segment: I really just want these kids to get along Me after this: SHIIIIII OKAY. YES ACCIDENTS EXIST BUT THIS AIN'T HOW YOU DO IT MAN. THIS AIN'T HOW YOU DEAL WITH THIS.
I feel like the reason these memories are represented as photos is because the “images” of that day was engraved into Basil’s mind so deeply that they became as solid as photos you can revisit. He said he took photos because he wanted to preserve the good memories. But the bad memories are preserved in his mind too, whether he likes it or not. The way they are preserved are in the exact same way the good memories are preserved, just not physical but with the same function. He revisists those memories over and over again, like looking at a photo album...
i really thought mari was gonna be like a sans-type character, where it turns out she’s aware that its all a game and stuff because i thought it was extremely suspicious that she never left the blanket and she would teleport.. and i honestly wish i was right, because this was much much worse :( she deserved better
@AeroMob the game files actually have captions for the photos shown in the video! one of them says "your shoulders feel heavy. A familiar voice whispers something unspeakable. Your eyes widen. It tells you to follow its lead. It says... it’s the only way out... it says that everything will be okay." the captions take place from Sunny's POV so Basil is the familiar voice
The worst part is that your parents are hinted to knowing the Truth that you and Basil were responsible as later on your father says he doesn't have a son when he cuts down the tree. The only reason you weren't reported was probably your parents also covering up as later on your mom calls you 'her one and only' hoping not to lose her son. I would also like to mention that Basil in my opinion was a victim who became suicidal in guilt just by witnessing you (His best friend) kill your sister by accident and he helps you carry her and tried to cover your actions and in turn also became traumatized. Even after the incident he still covered for you as it was later reveled that you scribbled on the photos and he was taking the blame for you and being bullied by Aubrey. He also showed many signs that he needed you with him to help with his fear and guilt but the player is forced to run away. This happens until the end in which you confront him on that night because he was going to kill himself because after that night he would be alone with the Something since Sunny the only other person would be leaving. In the fight he even mentions the thing possessing him causing him to scribble the photos and this could be the Trauma taking over. But in the end Basil was with you, helped you and tried to take in all the blame. To end this in the bright note in the good ending Basil and Omori smiled since they over come that monster and told their friends but knowing your friends it is unlikely that they would hate you and if they do the only person who would cover you and be with you would be Basil
Obviously Sunny's parents knew what happened, they aren't stupid, they noticed the mess Mari was made, the blood, the broken violin, her messy hair, even the dirty and cut clothes. They maybe changed her clothes and cleaned her a little before the police or ambulance came. They lost a child, they wouldn't let go another for an accident. And yes, this happens irl, like the case of Jonbenet Ramsey, the most famous (and probable) theory of her death: her brother kill her by accident and their parents covered it.
Well, anyone would notice the bruises she had when she "hanged" herself. Her suicide wouldn't add up for anyone. Well, it's either what you mentioned (I don't really remember having any interaction with our father in the game though) or that the people that were responsible for the investigation of her death are bunch of idiots lol.
I don't think these were photos basil took, I think these were his memories. On 1:29 you see he's looking at his hands which would make it hard for him to take a picture like that in reality pfft plus! Not remembering the whole thing in details and just parts of it is a pretty normal thing- but to make it so sunny could also see and remember, these memories became pictures? That's my theory for now.. Edit: also on 1:41 too, pretty sure there are more moments like that
I remember seeing a comment that went like “imagine waking up and you see your friend hanging out” And i thought, ffs! You spoiled it for me! So the entire playthrough i was thinking, yep, suicide, gotcha Yeah....suicide Suicide...right What is happening What’s there to see? She hung herself ... ... ..no way No freaking way NO FREAKING WA-
I saw a comment that was litterally this: Sunny: kilss her sister, friends forgive him I kill my sister, mom: I forgive you, 1 min later hello police? So yeah, you are lucky
Lmao, I went into the game half blind due to intentionally spoiling myself (I watched the endings before actually watching complete gameplay), but it was still pretty interesting seeing everything come together. Finally understanding the constant fear battles taking place on stairs, why Basil was always nervous around Sunny, hands, and Something. I'm quite lucky that the endings themselves didn't give really give away the truth of the situation, so I got to experience the realization myself.
I made like a quick assumption that mari fell down the stairs from how the photo when the horror first came in was the stairs and basil saying the name mari before that and i asked my friend abt it. She asked me if i read that from the comments which kinda solidified that assumption and throughout the game i was rlly confused because the game seems to imply that mari died by hanging herself, but then what was the stairs all about?? needless to say it was the correct assumption all along
I was in denial after this whole sequence. Like... I couldn't believe that SUNNY would accidentally kill his sister and then BASIL would help him cover it up. This scene gave me so much dread and made me sick.
The both of them helped each other hang Mari tho... then again they were just children that probably doesn't know what to do in these type of situations. And yes what the fuck.
Feels like they should have built up Basil having a darker side a bit more. Before Mari's death I mean, seemed kind of eyebrow raising that Basil of all people came up with the idea at age 12 too
@@acryl3626 I think Basil came up with the idea of suicide because he might be suicidal himself. He vents a lot to Sunny and mentions how he feels like he's burdening him and is overly dependent on Sunny and seems like he cares more about others than himself like he's less important and it feels like he has low self esteem at times. So, I feel like he probably thought that he'll use something he has thought of before to protect someone he cares about. And he was also in a situtation where he was already feeling pressured and scared.
I already spoiled myself with this a long time ago, when I did not plan to buy the game and wanted to know more about SOMETHING. Even so, this moment left me shocked and terrified, the last photo of MARI looking at you and transforming into SOMETHING confirms that this creature is all the guilt that SUNNY feels after that heartbreaking moment, that's why OMORI always comes back to the WHITE SPACE after that SOMETHING catch him. Just scary, raw and sad. Edit: Now i realise, SOMETHING was MARI's hair and her right eye. That's terrifying. I want to know what the heck was thinking BASIL with the idea of hang her corpse like she comitted suicide. But I know that they couldn't say that SUNNY killed her, they really didn't know what to do in a situation like that. The fact that everything can happen in a good or bad way, without us controlling the situation is really scary, for me I think.
Basil is a child and is extremely attached to Sunny, so it’s understandable he panicked and made up such a rash and horrible idea. People don’t think very clearly in bad situations.
Honestly when the pictures were put together, it never occurred to me that Basil helped Sunny cover up Mari's real cause of death. The one picture of Basil just made me assume that he just watched Sunny hang Mari himself, but in reality it was Basil that suggested they cover it up. It just messes me up so badly. Like, these kids are twelve years old. Instead of just saying it was an honest accident, that Sunny never meant to do it, they just jumped straight into going to hang her body and make it look like a suicide. Everyone in this entire damn game needs to go to therapy.
lets be real, if u were a 12 y/old on that situation, the last thing u would do is admitting that u killed your sister. a 12 year old would be afraid of the consquences of their actions, so i understand why they did that. (even if it wasnt the best choice) sorry for my shitty english lol
To be fair, Sunny was 12, and the only thing on his mind was probably "My sister is dead because of me. Nobody will believe me if I say it was an accident. I'm going to jail. Everyone is going to hate me."
I just finished this and my jaw was on the fucking floor SPOILER WARNING when they played the pictures in order. At first i thought "what, are they gonna pull a zombie Mari out of their ass?" and then they play me like a damn fiddle
“Every time something goes wrong you turn around and place the blame on SOMETHING else. In denial, you simply resort to looking for another, more convenient ‘truth’ in order to make yourself feel better.” “Leaving behind in an instant the so-called ‘truth’ you once embraced.” “Should someone like that be able to decide what is ‘truth’?” “Should someone like you even have the right to decide?”
I just want to mention how absolutely brilliant the design of “something” is. It’s easy to remember because of its simple shape. It follows you throughout the whole gameplay until the end. After learning about the truth and realization, the image can just haunt the player’s even in their dreams because of how much it can burn into the brain
I'm STILL not over the shock of learning what "something" is. More than Sunny pushing her down the stairs it's THAT final revelation, at the end that mind-fucked me.
Kind of already knew what Mari's death was going to be when they introduced the hangman and said she was dead in the real world. SPOILER WARNING! Edit: Oh my God nevermind, I understand what Sunny and Basil did now that I've played the game myself.
This gets scarier knowing I’m later moving to a 2-story house with a long staircase. *Knowing that I’m older than my brother and the last time we visited that house we pretended to dramatically fall down the steps.*
I will never forget the day on my first ever reaction on the truth. The build up to it was incredible, and every question, thoughts and things I believed in was completely turned on its head. I won’t ever forget that day cause that very moment was so powerful, as soon we see that dammed photo of her falling down the stairs, it hit like a truck for me and I was just absolutely flabbergasted for like a solid 10mins. And I remember walking through the field and passing those gates just speechless, thinking about everything I thought I knew just thrown away, just the thought of the amount of guilt Sunny must have had felt just impossible to fathom. Omori is one of those games where I would do anything to experience it for the first time again, because games that are able to achieve such long lasting feelings and thoughts are just so inspiring and just so enduring.
Love that everyone is seeing all these little details and even getting the descriptions of the pictures. I think there’s one we’re missing though. That we see in the video. The something we see throughout the game has one eye right? And eyes are pervasive everywhere in this game. Singular eye, alone. During this time, Sunny and Basil were handling Mari a lot it seemed- they should have seen her eyes being open if they were. So why is her open eye such a big shock at the end? Cause it opened while they were hanging her or just before. They could have maybe saved her, if they tried.
Maybe it's because they're framing a suicide, intending to hide the truth from everyone, but her eye open indicates "I saw you. I know what you did." They can't ever hide the truth from Mari and so all their guilt comes together into that single moment. Also I agree, if they didn't move the body so fast, maybe she could have been saved. There's a chance the fall only knocked her out and it was the journey up/down the stairs (bad for a head injury) or the hanging that actually killed her.
It was a big shock for me because it showed what the weird ghostly figure we kept seeing was; that oppressive ghost was an image of Mari's corpse the entire time I'm not really sure about this, but I just really don't think she was alive. Her corpse with it's open eyes looked so hateful to me akjsajska and Mari wanted Sunny to forgive himself so I don't get why there would be a disparity But it's so heartbreaking if she was actually alive
Her eye opened after they hanged her. Basil was shocked first and Sunny noticed, when he stared back something was looking at them. They regretted staring back. They should've not done that.
One thing I find interesting is that the "something" Basil sees behind Sunny is basically a simplified version of Mari's hanging corpse...so, what is it that the player sees behind Basil? The odd tendril things?
@@thatoneguyfromhs4944 most likely a different angle of the same. Remember he lifted her from the ground and carried her to the second floor and then down back to the tree. He probably realized how horrifying it was all the process and the hanging watching corpse was the final nail to their sanity. Remember MARI Manifest in their memory in varying different forms, specially in the Hikikomori route... My god it is just terrifying how traumatized they are and exploring Black Space makes it all just worse.
Can we just take a moment to acknowledge how much of a twist this game has. I never would have seen it coming. I knew Mari died, but I didn't know how, I figured it was probably suicide, but man how wrong I was. Sooooo goood
Dude for real this is the best plot twist that I've seen in a videogame, when I saw that part for the first time, it took me like 2 hours to digest that part and my hands were shaking
I was already understanding that there was something wrong with Mari's death when I was playing so when I saw the rope I was like, I feel like this rope is somewhat- Oh...
i guessed that the phantom was supposed to be mari's hair and her open mouth or eye - i did not guess that she didn't actually kill herself. this was truly horrifying and gutpunching man
Sunny: Great now both us can't play at the recital! Mari: THAT'S YOUR VIOLIN! Sunny: No crap! That's why I freaking broke it! Mari: I'm calling-- **CRASH** *audience oooh sound* Basil: I'm getting the rope!
Mari was easily one of my favorite characters her interactions in the dream world with all the characters never failed to put a smile on my fave and then the game just says fuck you shes dead oh fuck you again sunny killed her
i'm still thinking about this part of the game. the way they delivered this twist was so powerful... i love how the photos look so blurry and vague without being too indistinct, the way they build up the tension to whole photo album sequence, etc... it's etched in my mind at this point. it's been a while since a game has impacted me like that, i was literally sobbing. this game highkey a masterpiece wtf
Honestly I can’t believe how good the story is and how the game presents that story. So much so that I actually tried to find flaws within the story. But I honestly can’t find much. I originally questioned Basil’s importance as I argued Mari disappearing in the dream world would’ve worked as well. But honestly Basil Is integral to this scene. No one else, presumably, would’ve thought to hang Mari. Not even Sunny due to how shock and unresponsive he was in the photos. While I argued that Basil either could’ve replaced or been replaced by the other characters, his existence is crucial to this scene alone. Plus I believe Basil was added for Sunny have someone else really close to him, a friend specifically for Sunny. So Sunny isn’t alone in his trauma despite feeling that way. Omocat truly created a game with beautiful artwork and music to accompany a dark story that was constantly disguised by bright colors and music. They really refined the concept since 2014.
I couldnt remember the ending for Omori. So I came and watched it, and remembered why I intentionally forgot. How is it that a game with purely fictional characters can make my stomach have a sinking aching feeling? These characters arent real, so why does it make me so depressed?
The eye that we sees in the last photo is the last thing Omori will ever see of his sister and the guilt creates the figure of the "Something"... But... What if the eye of Mary didn't opened by accident and it was Mary who opened it? What if, maybe, just maybe... She was still alive and regained consciousness just right before choking to death?
From Sunny's fear of stairs and his anger for Basil, I thought that Basil accidentally push Mari down the stairs and Sunny saw them but I never thought such thing like that. Trying to cover their guilt by a suicide cover is too much... even for this game...
Ugh...I fell down the stairs once as a young kid, and I was totally fine, but this scene makes me shiver thinking that I could've actually been seriously hurt or worse.
i like how the game has so many red herrings before this happens like at first i thought she drowned and it was basil's fault as that was a reoccurring thing then you find out she hung herself then you get the reveal of what actually happend.

There's a lady who's sure All that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven When she gets there she knows If the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh And she's buying a stairway to heaven There's a sign on the wall But she wants to be sure 'Cause you know, sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook There's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it makes me wonder There's a feeling I get When I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen Rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon If we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn For those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Oh whoa-whoa-whoa, oh-oh If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May Queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run And there's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Oh, whoa Your head is humming and it won't go In case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one and one is all, yeah To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to heaven
Sunny's actions I could wrap my head around because accidents do happen, but Basil choosing to legit disrespect her dead body like that made my blood go cold.. Not to mention Sunny's dad left their family after, probably thinking the cover up was their son's idea and saying "I have no son" while cutting down the tree Mari was hung on. Sunny blames himself but I'd say it's Basil's actions that are hardest to look past
Well Basil was implied to already b a very neglected child b4 this incident. In a lot of ways, Sunny & his friends were all he had, so of course he’d do anything to help him. Also he refuses to believe it was acc Sunny who pushed her, so in his head they’re completely absolved of responsibility. That deep denial likely helped rationalise covering it up - their only solution & the only way to help his friend.
+ Basil definitely blames himself too - I mean he literally commits suicide in multiple routes lol. I don’t necessarily like Basil but I don’t think it’s fair to blame him more than Sunny
This whole time, I thought Omori was popular because it had a realistic depiction of depression or something like that. Oh how wrong I was. All I can say is… either I’m just really lucky, or the Omori community has been that good at keeping this a secret LOL
I haven’t played it yet so take this with a grain of salt, but based on the broken violin at the bottom of the stairs I think either Mari got mad at Sunny for breaking it or she broke it and he got angry
@Chutayani yee i think the same i mean this is all story but i really want to know which exactly they quarreled about I thought I missed something but it just wasn't explained in the game or there is still some secret for sure
It’s so hard to forgive omori and basil one they could’ve took her to the hospital like it’s a fall down stairs it’s seems very likely she wo up five survived but they were more scared about themselves hung and disrespected her body..... great game tho
She was already dead when she fell down the stairs, she had broken her neck and also had landed on the broken violin. And I'm sure either Sunny and Basil had already checked her breathing. They had dragged Mari to the bed at first so they probably checked then.
Even though it’s confusing, I’m pretty sure Basil didn’t take pictures of any of these moments. These are Sunny’s memories but for some reason I’m Basil’s point of view? He couldn’t be holding a camera while also lifting Mari and I just don’t think he’d take picture of moments like that.
1:28 You can see both his hands here so, of course these are just figurative representations of the event in sunny's mind. I mean unless he was holding the camera with his mouth but that wouldn't make sense at all
So basically if you didn’t understand let me explain: Sunny broke his violin because he didn’t want to practice anymore over so much pressure. Mary was angry and started talking to Sunny upstairs . Sunny pushed her by accident with anger down the stairs. Sunny goes down the stairs to check on her. Mary dies on the violin downstairs by falling on her head. (So basically there is now blood on his violin) then Sunny takes Mari to the bed and starts crying next to her. Basil and Sunny take her outside. They grab a jump rope and tie it on the treehouse. They hang Mari on it as if she commented suicide. All this black stuff that has been happening is Basil and Sunny’s guilt, the weird shaped black leaf with an eye on it is symbolizing Mary with her hair and her eye looking at them. I hope you understand...
So that's why SUNNY gets so scared when going down the stairs
i never thought about that ! it's clever, ty !
I just realized that rn lol
And that’s why the monster is associated
I was wondering why the fear of falling was associated with hands, then I realized they weren’t hands reaching out to grab, they were hands reaching out to push
Yep, Fear of Heights, Water, and Spiders, due to a spider falling on his shoulder when he was about to jump the lake and almost drowned
Game: "Mari is dead."
Me: "Oh...that's pretty sad."
Game: "She died falling down stairs after a fight with Sunny, and it's implied that he pushed her off, even if it was an accident."
Me: "Shit. Maybe that's why Sunny is so traum-"
Game: "And then Basil helped Sunny hang her corpse to make it look like suicide, and the one-eyed ghost thingy you see through the game is the image of Mari's eye peeking through her hair burned into Sunny's brain due to guilt."
Me: "Wha-"
Game: "And the trauma was so bad that Sunny locked himself away from the world for the last 4 year, never to speak with his friends again."
Me: "Wait..."
Game: "That left Basil alone with his own trauma and guilt, which got so bad that it pushed him to the verge of suicide."
Me: "Please..."
Game: "Speaking of guilt, Sunny's friends were forever filled with guilt because they didn't see the signs of Mari's suicidal thoughts and feel like they did nothing to help her, and that destroyed their lives pretty bad. Like Aubrey felt abandoned by everyone and became a delinquent and Hero gave up on his dream of becoming a chef."

Basil who was here, witnessed the scene and was shocked by it ( As he is Sunny best friend, he was surely here for encouraging Sunny before the recital, we saw on one photo that he seem to wear a clean white jacket, he was dressed for the recital.)
At the beginning, Sunny didn't believe that his sister was dead and he just took her for put her in her bed. On one photo, he smile, maybe because he is reassuring himself like '' it's ok, that's nothing, that's just a little fall ''
But, arrived in the bedroom he realized that she didn't breathed anymore, she probably died by breaking her neck so it was already too late. He was so shocked that he made a catatonia crisis ( we saw that Basil try to shake him but he seem... Kinda absent, it seem normal to be so much shocked by the sudden death of someone that you just get paralyzed with horror and denial, especially in this case because he was the one who pushed her. )
Basil panicked ( he was 12 years old, he just saw his best friend, the person he seem to like the most in the world, committed accidental murder, Mari was already dead, he couldn't save her) so on the spot he was unable to think logically so the first thing he though about was to hang her in the garden for framing the accident into suicide ( because he didn't accepted that his best friend could have done that, because he was afraid for him to be hated, punished when he know that he didn't did it on purpose, he was a child, maybe on the moment he just... Panicked like a child, fearing to be send in jail, fearing that anyone knew what Sunny did. )
Sunny didn't mean to kill her of course, he loved her, he would never have done something like that on purpose. Obviously, we can see how much he blame himself during '' SunnyvsOmori'' he loved her and think he deserve to die too for being the cause of her death.
( By the way, as we saw them fighting in front of the stair, it could have being him who fell, it was purely an accident, but a accident that will ruin his life, him and Basil.)
And for Basil, he didn't mean to do something bad or evil or whatever.
This is my version, I didn't assume it to be Canon but it seem rather logical to me
I think they deserve forgiveness, they already pay what happened, even if their friends forgive them, theirs lives will never be the same without Mari, they will never find the same happiness that they had before. Just because of a dumb accident, it's so sad because the game insist very much on how pure and happy theirs friendship was when they were all together. I think this sad reality it's enough paiement for them.
I was so moved by this game that I felt the urge of writing this block text xD sorry
Btw sorry for the possible mispealing, English is not my native language
Edit : so yeah this is canon now.
>Sunny is obviously someone shy and easily anxious ( by the way, when he got a violin for his birthday, his thoughts wasn't a burst of happiness, but anxiety because he didn't wanted to disappoint anyone)
I can feel this on a spiritual level
I think this is exactly what happened. We can clearly see it in those photos. THIS or we all misinterpret it - and it's actually just a metaphor how they feel guilty for her death because Sunny broke his violin on this important day because he wanted to play with basil and she ran off to kill herself.
m.imgur.com/a/YmVaYMq in another comment someone posted the pictures with actual descriptions
Hero, Mel and Aubrey are worse, they thanked they didn’t notice the “depression hints”
@IAmAKebab Likely not. He'll just live like the usual life even when moving. He'll continue the Hikikomori route again and again, likely.
OMOCAT really made it look like it was the perfect crime, and the whole idea of SUNNY and BASIL being traumatized by having to keep that secret isn't as powerful if his parents knew.

the captions take place from Sunny's POV so Basil is the familiar voice
Basil is that one friend everyone needs
@@i_draw_whatever18 um.

Here, your clown mask for believing a comment
i only knew one thing going into omori.
" it was an accident."
so i thought she drowned in the lake or something due to basil.
I saw a comment that was litterally this:
Sunny: kilss her sister, friends forgive him
I kill my sister, mom: I forgive you, 1 min later hello police?
Note to self: Don't argue near stairs.

I was in denial after this whole sequence. Like... I couldn't believe that SUNNY would accidentally kill his sister and then BASIL would help him cover it up. This scene gave me so much dread and made me sick.
I could look past Sunny bc accidents happen but like... Basil decided in cold blood to disrespect her corpse and hang it up the tree.. What the fuck
@@yujibell he didn't want his best friend to get blamed for an accident, he didn't blame Sunny
Boss: I'm going to dress up as a tree and steal basil.
Omori: hmm *familiar*
this scene is one of the most horrifying scenes ive seen in a video game
People don’t think very clearly in bad situations.
they were both 12 dealing with a dead body.
Creepy. The memory of a horrible scene gets twisted into a nightmare phantom embodying the essence of guilt.
I admit i was casually spoil by some things in this game, but this accident murder to frame as a suicie wasn’t what I was expecting
(even if it wasnt the best choice)

The noise Something makes gives me chills *every. single. time.*
is it just me?
No. You ain't alone. It seriously sounds like creepy laughter... And that alone scares me.
This gets scarier knowing I’m later moving to a 2-story house with a long staircase.
*Knowing that I’m older than my brother and the last time we visited that house we pretended to dramatically fall down the steps.*
brUHH THE VIDEO GOT AGE-RESTRICTED
It was a big shock for me because it showed what the weird ghostly figure we kept seeing was; that oppressive ghost was an image of Mari's corpse the entire time
I'm not really sure about this, but I just really don't think she was alive. Her corpse with it's open eyes looked so hateful to me akjsajska and Mari wanted Sunny to forgive himself so I don't get why there would be a disparity
But it's so heartbreaking if she was actually alive
Her eye opened after they hanged her. Basil was shocked first and Sunny noticed, when he stared back something was looking at them. They regretted staring back. They should've not done that.
One thing I find interesting is that the
"something" Basil sees behind Sunny is basically a simplified version of Mari's hanging corpse...so, what is it that the player sees behind Basil?

They aren't bad people. They were just traumatised kids trying to make sense of a terrible situation.
This is YOUR daily dose of internet.
You can see mari's shadow on the noose, even though she's not there...
Stop!

All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know, sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder
There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
Oh whoa-whoa-whoa, oh-oh
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
And there's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder
Oh, whoa
Your head is humming and it won't go
In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow?
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
Man. Basil was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Well I mean... it was also his idea to hang her 😭😭 he didn’t just stumble in & out of the situation innocently
If only Mari was there to support Sunny when he needed it the most
what do you think they could have argued about exactly?
I haven’t played it yet so take this with a grain of salt, but based on the broken violin at the bottom of the stairs I think either Mari got mad at Sunny for breaking it or she broke it and he got angry
@@callisto22 i think that will be to easy and a little pointless

It’s so hard to forgive omori and basil one they could’ve took her to the hospital like it’s a fall down stairs it’s seems very likely she wo up five survived but they were more scared about themselves hung and disrespected her body..... great game tho
She was already dead when she fell down the stairs, she had broken her neck and also had landed on the broken violin. And I'm sure either Sunny and Basil had already checked her breathing. They had dragged Mari to the bed at first so they probably checked then.
instructions unclear
*Why didn't it kill me when I fell on the stairs when I was a 4 year old?*
I was thinking about it too
How mari died she's didn't even bleed
Or I guess her neck got cracked when she fall
She might have been still alive when she fell down the stairs.
Its just that the surprise pushed basil of thinking of making it look like a suicide.
I mean unless he was holding the camera with his mouth but that wouldn't make sense at all
@@Fl0weyTheFlower Right, I can’t believe some ppl think they’re acc photos 😭😭 WHY WLD BASIL DOCUMENT INCRIMINATING EVIDENCE
So basically if you didn’t understand let me explain:
Sunny broke his violin because he didn’t want to practice anymore over so much pressure.
