The United States Naval Academy (USNA) is located in Annapolis, Maryland, and is one of the most prestigious institutions for training officers for the United States Navy and Marine Corps.
Founding: The Naval Academy was established in 1845 by Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft. It was founded on the site of the former Fort Severn, which dates back to the American Revolution.
Mission: The mission of the Naval Academy is to develop midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor, and loyalty. It's essentially a four-year undergraduate college, but with a rigorous military training program integrated into the curriculum.
