- We talk to the Doom creator about his newest piece of technology - a lag-free head-mounted display unit, trial it out with DOOM 3 BFG Edition, and discuss what implications the visor could have for the future of the industry.
It's scary when Carmack believes in something so much because it usually ends up in your living room in 2 years. lol
+Nerd Jocky Nerd Jocky 2 years ago!! HAPPY CV1 LAUNCH MONTH!
+Ray OfMinneapolis 4 not 2 years lel ;-)
I've scared even myself with this little piece of foresight. lol Just a testament to Carmack though. To say he's a genius is a severe understatement.
@@RayRift 5 years ago!! HAPPY QUEST LAUNCH MONTH!
@@sekazi mysterious history and prosperous future to us all!
And here we are today with the Oculus Quest less then ten days from release. It's amazing to see how far VR has come since then.
And now we're here a few weeks away from the Quest 2. Exciting times.
@@d0hzer453 And now we are a few weeks away from the Quest 2 Pro (Cambria). Keeps getting better.
@@AntTurner And here we are in the year of Quest 3, possible soon unveiling of Valve Deckard, and less than 1 month from the launch of Playstation VR2...good times indeed!
thanks carmack for getting the ball rolling on this long overdue tech.
UA-cam has brought us all together again , to look at how was VR 7 years ago , and how it is now . Have a nice day
After 8 years what Carmack said in this interview has come true. Oculus Quest 2 has all the features Carmack provides in this video, all of them, including wireless, including low cost.
It is incredible that in just 8 years from that prototype assembled with tape we arrived at Oculus Quest 2.
Thanks Palmer Luckey, thanks Carmack, thanks Oculus VR, thanks Facebook ...
... Palmer you did it
Two weeks away from Oculus Quest 2, I could listen to John talk all day long. Amazing how far we've come in the world of VR, fully wireless console-like experiences for £299.
So many great things in this video:
- "Axes of improvement"
- Interviewer changes his tone post-demo
- Carmack's passion (tm)
- And +1 for duct tape
*iloveitsomuch*
Sitting here with my Samsung gear vr in hand looking for game vids and came accross this. Hard to believe this was only 2.5 years ago. Oculus wasnt even at the Kickstarer stage yet. Amazing progress indeed. This new modern attempt at VR is now backed by some big name companies and serious financing. For those of us who had the opprotunity to strap on a DK1/2 or gear vr know the amazing potential ahead. Looking forward to it.
And now it's 2019. Damn how time has passed
Thanks Carmack, first you worked at ID and revolutionized the gaming market, and now you revolutionize gaming itself. Oh and you brought HLA to us. Thanks a lot.
I always come back to these old VR videos with Carmack and I'm always amazed at how far we've come since this video was made.
8 years, and is still relevant what he says
Hard to believe this was only two years ago. Another year, and we'll have the consumer version ready, 2560x1440p@75Hz, low persistence, positional tracking, the whole 9 yards.
ERMAHGERD!!!
His final words at the end, he was spot on.
I like this interviewer better than the last guy I watched. He gets it and he doesn't pretend to know everything Carmack is saying
So this is the early duct tape demo Rift I've been reading about.
Wild to see 10 years later
The dream of old. Glad Carmack's still on it.
And almost 4 years later almost everything he was talking about came true. Oculus Rift's successful kickstart that really kickstarted VR. Gear VR. Facebook buying Oculus Rift. The only thing that didn't come true (yet) is the rise of Augmented Reality. Truly a visionary
Of all the people trying to push this tech I am so pleased it's Carmack.
Absolute genius personified.
I've been re-reading History of the Future; it talks about how Carmack showed Luckey's prototype at E3 and it made a big splash. It's so interesting to be able to watch these videos and see what actually happened between the lines. It makes me want a documentary version of the story.
7 years later, mobile VR - Oculus Quest, and Doom3 thu streaming from PC. Wow
Dr beef is making doom 3 standalone for quest. Your welcome.
@@noahkirkpatrick8912 and its up on side quest hehe
I could listen John Carmack for hours and not get bored at all.
Welp doom 3 vr is here 9 years later lol
Nah, the original doom 3 vr released a while ago but there was no official version until now
Just a few years later, that thing Palmer threw together that John was holding would evolve into something that would go on to be worth two billion dollars.
This is why John Carmack is my idol :) he is a legend even know i still play his classic games ;)
Watching this in 2019, 48 hours away from the Oculus Quest launch. 🚀
One of my best purchases was buying a vr headset. Like playing video games for the first time again
Watching this while holding my Oculus Go. Everything he's said was pretty much prophecy.
You can tell when someone's truly passionate with something if they keep talking about how it isnt great yet.
John Carmack... his other job is literally Rocket Science.
John Carmack is a legend.
Passion, passion, real passion!!!
He want to take us inside the fantasy worlds and he will succeed!!!
the future right there i bet no one imagined that this little demo help fuel the vr revolution :-)
Ah, how I love this man! ! !
The duct tape on the Rift is a bit comical.
John Carmack is his own masterpiece on there.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
omg i am as excited as carmack is! THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME!!!!!
Quest Time.
Creepy how much he predicted! I just got myself a Quest
Wow, 7 years ago vr was crazy and amazing. Now in 2019 we got lots of vr
man, same here, a few months ago i thought i would never code again in my life, and now i'm learning Unity3D, just because of the rift !
Wonder how strafe jumping in this will look like.
I'm currently looking at this in a vritual cinema 10000 feet above ground level, on a huge sky monitor, and writing this comment with virtual hands on a floating keyboard, while i'm comfy on my bed.
What a time to be alive! I am waiting on my Quest 2 pre-order. Really excited to finally try out VR
October 16th or 19th.. The game is only $40. However, I think the VR kit is $500 and exclusive.
Whatever goes on inside John Carmack's brain...stays in John Carmack's brain.
I like how people keep saying imagine "any game that's been out" sorry to one up. But imagine the future games, VR plus game engines like luminus. Now that is what I'm pissing my pants for.
On there!
LOL everyones so ready for this device, its totally the next logical step for gaming...oh my...the future is looking peachy! :)
John Carmack. The Robin Hood of Technology.
The interviewer's arm be like:
_"Give him the mic next time"_
Fucking genius, I am beyond hyped for this device...imagine fallout or skyrim
Ph0be ha.... just played skyrim VR since a month and its great 😄
In every video of this hardware, as soon as the person interviewing puts it on. They giggle like a school girl. That's a damn good sign
He is a machine.
I would shit my pants playing a VR version of Doom 3, hell I'm shitting my pants just thinking about it.
Carmack was right, again
Y creer que todo lo que dijo lo hizo realidad.
La Meta Quest 2 son aquello con lo que soño hace 9 años🔥😬🔥
John D. Carmack
thanks for sharing gamereactorTV
on there
He said, "oh my god!" xD
I need one of these vr headsets :(
i really want to know when DooM 3 Bfg Edition is out for the PC ?
Haha that interviewer freaked out! Hilarious!
Here from JRE interview
can you watch movies with this?
I guess you've never heard of Wernher von Braun.
Wii gun like controller and I buy it at any cost.
And soon Doom 3 comes to Oculus Quest, full mobile as JC foretold:
ua-cam.com/video/b5ByNewN4V4/v-deo.html&t
you need a special room with soft walls for VR, like in mental hospitals lol
i want to buy a vr headset. whats the best one out there ? yes budget matters so give me options :) thanks :)
No man should have all that knowledge:)
John Carmack is god
And he doesn't need to.
El Psy Congroo
I was born to early....
I betrayed John Carmack because i bought the Vive instead. Sorry John :P
Interviewer didn't really talk much or ask questions..
hahahahahaha
this looks shithouse
