We had a few 'good' guards where I was. It was just a job to them. Nothing personal. You treat them with respect, and they'll treat you the same. Anyway, I worked in the commissary the last year & 1/2 in and one of the 'good ones' (around Christmas both times) brought in a big bag of Mcdonald's biscuits of various types and said "Dam Mickey Ds messed my order up and gave me too many. Ya'll go in the back and throw those away". For a few minutes we were just a bunch of guys having breakfast. It was a gesture that I'll never forget.

I'm retired from the BOP. I seen a Cuban detainee take 3 cans of mace and 2 bean bag rounds. He never went to his knees, just stood there and said is that all you got? He also had about a 14 inch shank. He weighed about 135 lbs. and was one of the toughest dudes ever. As a CO I would rather deal with someone who had a long sentence than a short timer. I sent less than 7 guys to SHU during my career and then it was over extreme disrespect. Otherwise I handled it differently. Due to the way I carried myself I rarely had issues. I ran into an ex convict a few months ago and he shook my hand and said you treated us like people!

I ran the ER @ a Max Security Prison for many years. I treated my patients by being fair, consistent' keeping my word & with respect when earned. They all knew I didn't play games or favorites. I truthfully was safer with a lot of my inmates/convict's than I was with a multitude of the guards. With the 1s you showed here today, with the exception of the 1 eating all the gas, they were all punks.🤣

I got a family member who’s a correction officer. He said a lot of the mentally ill inmates are the ones that are like wild animals. They are the strongest, it takes a bunch of guys to take them down and even then the inmate is still almost getting back up, or the gas has no affect on them. He said it’s like trying to fight a gorilla with nothing but your fists. It’s like if they have a simpler, more primal brain, then the almost have primal monkey strength too that 5 guys together don’t have.

That guard running his mouth arguing with the inmate needs more experience at his job. You don't whine and bellyache to those you're responsible for. Look the inmate in the eye, treat him like a human being, but don't take no shit from him either. Say it once calm with authority as a warning, then take action if it's not heeded. The inmates know they can rile that dude up.

Ok so I dont know spesifically what they used there, but I assume its CS gas which is the type that tricks your brain into thinking it cant breathe, then makes all orifices burn to the point where you cant see and your nose and mouth just runs uncontrollably. Keep going and you start vomiting and go fetal position.
I happen to have some experience with this, and someone resiting it like this is not a measure of toughness, its genetic. Fairly common too tbh, in military testing it was found that about 1 in 100 is resistant to it, while about 1 in 1000 is completely immune to it. Ive seen guys who have the willpower to walk their ancles into bloody stumps crack in about 8 seconds to CS gas, while others are perfectly fine doing pushups in a room filled with it.

I actually done time in this state. Its New Mexico. The cameras were not allowed near the convicts you talk on that camera you will definitely get stabbed. The dorms was a level 2. In NM level 6 is the highest thats where the mental guy was that was taking the spary. Level 5 is STG gang pods. The guys running there mouth to the c.o if he was in a hard unit he would have had to throw done with that c.o since he didnt he would have got dealt with by his people. N.M really does have some solid guys locked up but honestly 75% doing time there are inmates and thats ok

👍Love your takes. Here's mine. Dude who took 2 and half cans of pepper spray isn't tough just 51/50 psycho. J-Cats feel no pain. Real cons don't hassle staff but get even down the line. Manipulation is the key. The real power in a prison will always be staff. Guns, keys, walls, etc. are unbeatable. This is the way.

Larry, I have a question for you. Did you ever have a panic attack in jail or prison or see another guy have one while you were incarcerated? I get them myself so I was curious. Don't worry, I'm not planning on getting locked up LOL.

@@danejurus69 You are extremely tough. I mean it. I can't imagine having a panic attack in a place like prison and the fact that they threw you in the hole as if you _wanted_ it to happen in the first place.
I hope the hospital treated you with a little bit of decency, but they keep you chained up when you leave the facilities, huh, so it makes you stand out from the people in the free world.
I'm inspired by you that you endured that and lived to tell the tale. Peace ✊🏼

I had a hella panic attack in jail and it was probably the worst one I ever had because when I have them on the street, I go for a walk outside and can usually get them to clear up in under 15 minutes but in a 8x5 box it was extremely difficult to not feel like I wasn't running out of oxygen

These are all state prisons in New Mexico so allot of these fools do time differently. I've done time in the level 3 in Hobbs and iv done time in the B.O.P and the feds has its perks, it's ups and downs and the state prison has its ups and downs. But not doing any time is the best so just try and stay clean and out of trouble no matter were you are

as an ex prison guard, I cant agree with you more, Larry. These inmates are just doing their thing... a bit stupid, but understandable, and most definitely NOT troublemaking above and beyond. This is normal daily "banter", and the guards in some of these situations were bigger troublemakers than the inmates.

Most of hes COs are weak. I dont think any of these guys are still employed any more. The kid in the 2 cans of OC situation got caught with meth charges at the jail he worked at. Ruined his career
