its almost like i have waited 30+ years to hear their best songs, it like christmas, on the fourth of july, at McDonalds, as the acid kicks in, you tell me my happy meal is free
Great song! I thought I'd heard all the the demos and b-sides. This is really cool should have made it onto an album. "Turn around" is another one that should have gone on an album.
+Cliki the Pixie I never actually played the Interstate games much... I briefly played I76. but not '82. The cool thing about these Devo songs is that they WEREN'T specifically written and recorded for the game. They are in fact unused demo songs from the 1982 Devo album "Oh no, it's Devo" The fact that the band realistically played along with the game's concept of an alternate universe's 1982, and rerecorded these unused songs specifically for the game is pretty mind-blowing. These are songs that easily actually could have (and should have, in my opinion) ended up on that album. The original 1982, rough demo versions of these songs can be found on the Devo box set "Recombo DNA"
I think some of the lyrics were taken off of this song and put into patterns, but they have two different meanings. Patterns, in a musical sense, was originally One Dumb Thing. This song, though, somehow evolved into Luv Luv, of all things, the demo of Luv Luv (labeled "faster version") is basically this song but with luv luv being the chorus instead of faster and faster.
oh, does anyone know if this song is based on anything in particular? I get basically it's dark and I'm guessing it's a framed man who has to kill himself as part of a whole thing, probably to vindicate his name and/or friends/loved ones. Anybody got anything for me?
Benjamin Carlson yeah I’m pretty sure it’s about a man who’s killed someone and is about to kill them self before remembering all that has led up to that moment. In the flashback he is going through the process of getting rid of the evidence and is at the same time contemplating what life will be like behind bars when he realizes that’s actual hell. so he then decides it’d be better for him to just kill himself instead of enduring the agony that might Come from his decision. But I also feel like the song can be interpreted in another way as well. Like someone who can’t keep up with the rate at which everything is changing (hence the title Faster and Faster) and is fed up with all the lies and bullshit they see on tv and around them that they then feel that the world is a place they no longer want to live in so they do themselves in. But because they realize that would be an incredibly pathetic reason to do so. he writes down a fake confession and sets up this elaborate scene to make it seem like he killed himself for a real reason. Idk though I just don’t understand the whole meaning behind “Faster” and why it’s used the way it is. it kinda conflicts with the story of someone who has just murdered another and has to save face and then kill them self. Like wouldn’t you think you’d want things to perhaps move slower and savor the last cigarette before dying? Or is it that things are moving faster and faster as they go through the whole process? Idk maybe I’m just reading too much into and missing the bigger picture but regardless I love this fucking song and hopefully your account is still active so you can see this.
LET'S TALK, TELL ME ALL ABOUT IT - want to listen to that song SO I CAN COMMENT HOW GREAT IT IS. i probably won't since it's not in the related vids .........BUT i 'wood' luv 2 because it helped me get through a HARD time in my LIFEy~!
@gold2221 gotta do it in two or three comments, but here you go: faster faster faster faster in this hour of darkness just before I say goodbye smoke a teflon cigarette I chew my cyanide chlorette write down a fake confession and I send it off to you... (faster) you did it...
@gold2221 now the tears run from my eyes but it seems like there's no running from the lies my poor heart, my poor heart plays tricks on my mind faster! in this hour of darkness just before I say goodbye faster! smoke a teflon cigarette I chew my cyanide chlorette faster! write down a fake confession and I send it off to you... in this hour of darkness everything's turned gray now it's time for all good things to pass away don't ask me why why why we all must go go go go go! faster etc...

It was recorded when they were making Oh, No! It’s DEVO. It’s a shame it didn’t make it onto the album and went unreleased for so long, cause there are a few songs this could have easily replaced, such as Deep Sleep.
The amount of hidden gem tracks this band made is criminal.
Ah yes from "Interstate 82" which was 'Boogie Baby!'. With this song playing it'll be STEP ON IT TAURUS!!!
Interstate '82 for ever in my hearth
its almost like i have waited 30+ years to hear their best songs, it like christmas, on the fourth of july, at McDonalds, as the acid kicks in, you tell me my happy meal is free
Interstate 82 brought me here. I stayed for the music and the quality.
Ah, I remember the first time I ever heard this track, playing Interstate '82, trying to rescue Groove Champion from a mine rigged to blow.
The first time I heard this song is when I was 4 years old and play interstate 82 .been so long 19 now in it just hearing this just Wow
Great song! I thought I'd heard all the the demos and b-sides. This is really cool should have made it onto an album. "Turn around" is another one that should have gone on an album.
Thanks for posting. Been looking for this for ahwile
Interstate 82...
when I heard that song while playing...I didn't want to have it ending again
@gold2221 yes it is. it's from a devo compilation called "recombo DNA"
@splitbabyniblet: I think it's "Cloret", not "Chlorette". Clorets are a brand of gum, not sure if they were sold in the US though, which is surprising
"they tortured me with the cable TV..."
Cable TV is fucking evil. It gave me an electrick shock of ~300V yesterday...
This was in interstate 82 yus? I liked this level! though I think it resonable to hate it....such a fun song regardless! :)

wow! this is fuckin awesome! Never heard it b4.
I’m convinced this song was produced with coffee, preworkout, and Nintendo.
I say the lyrics aloud every time my 2000 Honda Insight hits a hill..
This is something you listen to in a 70's Ford van
You sing about commiting suicide everytime your honda hits a hill? Interesting..
I like the Demo as well!
A little DR DETROIT ish
A Cloret had a liquid center which burst into your mouth when you bit down on it, like Hiter's cyanide capsule.
I got the New Traditionalists off of Amazon Music and this song is prolly my fave. Also like Modern Life a lot. Devo is so great and SO underrated.
Benjamin Carlson both those song werent actually on the orginal cut of the album oddly enough it ends after enough said
it was a breath mint from the early 80's. it's actually spelled "cloret" or "clorets."
why did they remove this song from their channel and spotify??
Does anyone know what the lyrics mean
I'm Glad WB put this on a re-release, but WHY THE FUCK is it on Nu-Tra? This is an Oh No era song.
this sounds like it eventually evolved into "patterns"

@gold2221 oh, so I just added the lyrics to the description of the video, so they're all in order instead of all over the place...
They used parts of this song in their other song Luv Luv
@splitbabyniblet Ooh thank you! :)
Is this song actually called 'Faster and Faster'?
@splitbabyniblet Okay thanks, are there any lyrics to this song anywhere? I've searched for them but the ones that came up where not the right lyrics.
@MoffeAnimal I kept looking for it too, and finally decided to just upload it myself....
@lhlover52 why can't you torrent it?
Wow.
@DeadbrainLives welcome...
@gold2221 gotta do it in two or three comments, but here you go:

smoke a teflon cigarette
I chew my cyanide chlorette

@gold2221 now the tears run from my eyes
but it seems like there's no running
from the lies
my poor heart, my poor heart
plays tricks on my mind
faster!

just before I say goodbye
faster!
smoke a teflon cigarette
I chew my cyanide chlorette
faster!
write down a fake confession
and I send it off to you...
in this hour of darkness
everything's turned gray
now it's time for all good things

in this hour of darkness
everything's turned gray
now it's time for all good things
to pass away
don't ask me why why why
we all must go go go go go!

@gold2221 by the way, I transcribed those lyrics myself...
