As a former Renfro Valley entertainer I've heard many names mentioned over the years but I don't have any recollection of the name Aunt Mandy Bailey. Would love to have some information on her.

There's a story in the Lexington paper from when the movie came out in 1966 that says she was "an 84-year-old five string 'banjer-picker' and singer who occasionally throws in a few dance steps authentic of the folk culture of the Appalachians". It mentions she was one of the "Feudin' Baileys", but the only place I've found that phrase anywhere at all is in the big newspaper ad that ran in different papers when the movie was released. I'm guessing the group she appeared with in the film (Old Joe Clark, Clarence Walls, Ralph Marcum) must have been called the Feudin' Baileys, but probably after the fact - maybe in attempt to capitalize on the perceived popularity of feuding hillbillies. There is nothing in the movie, or the credits, that mention the 'Feudin' Baileys. The article also mentions that the dress Aunt Mandy wears in the movie was made by her 92-year-old sister, who stayed up nearly all night finishing it so she could wear it for the filming the next day. That's about all I know at this point.
I really like that 'Five Miles to Town' if you're the same guy.

This song actually has its roots in England from the late 1700’s and was often referred to as “ The Cruel Ship’s Carpenter” or “ The Gosport Tragedy” . Wonderful version here though!
