This was the first time I, at least, got to experience Mitch truly going off in a song. He completely OWNED that stadium right then. And, did it all with, what looked like, very little effort on his part. You notice how relaxed he was during the entire performance? How just chill and everyday that was for him? Like " I'ma go ahead and blow everyones mind today, I think. No big deal. " What in the unholy FRACK, Mitch?!

The story I’ve read is that they arrived that day. Mitch was tired and had a couple of Red Bulls before the performance. Be sure to notice Mitch’s grin just before it goes dark.

This is my favorite live performance. Thank God for the person that recorded it. I have seen this so many times and I still love it as much as the 1st time. Avi's low notes and Mitch's high notes.... Doesn't get any better than that! I love watching people react to this. Makes me laugh because they have no idea what is about to happen.
Thanks for the great reaction - just as I felt when I first heard this. It drove me crazy not seeing Kevin, because you can hear all the crazy beats he is doing. In the prior song, Kevin was sitting in the middle of the stage playing cello, and they added the latin choral piece at the beginning (at Avi's suggestion), so he would have time to put the cello away. At the end of Avi's solo, Mitch and Scott moved to the center, and Kevin came onstage on the right. It's really too bad that we never even get to see his elbow! There are other recordings of this song that show them all, but this one performance is truly epic.

This is Mitch with jet-lag and Red Bull. A one of a kind performance. The sound system couldn't handle Avi's bass!
Scott and Kirstin doing all the syncopated background parts is hard to do in a studio environment where you can do it over and adjust things electronically in mixing. The difficulty of doing this live is about a 20 on a scale of 1 to 10. Crowd noise, sound delays (just a fact with sound traveling through cords and wi-fi) the adrenaline of being in front of a crowd, and anything else that can happen live, this is a whole other level talent and discipline. If any of them get off track or off beat doing this song it could turn into a train wreck in a hurry. I don't think there are too many people, outside of these special five, that could do this and do it that well.

Yes, it was extremely distorted, for two reasons, it was recorded on a cell phone, but the much bigger and more important thing, is, go back and listen to Avi's solo, he does a little, then he pauses, and comes back in totally sub-harmonic, and with so much force, he blew the speakers. Not the first time he''s done that, and probably won't be the last. But it did mess up the rest of the song. I saw one performance, when he blew the speakers, Scott immediately stopped singing, and was running around the stage yelling, "He blew the speakers, he blew the speakers....." Laughing the whole time. I later found out that he wasn't really laughing, he was pissed about it.
Just a note - neither Avi or Tim Foust use subharmonics. That was just Avi being a bass. The frequencies is what blew the speaker. If he had used subharmonics it wouldn't have been damaged. Avi last year in a quarantine livestream said maybe he would learn how to sing subharmonics someday.

Dude seriously, you're my all time favourite reactor when it comes to Pentatonix, and Mitch especially. I know the "must eat crayons" feeling after watching this video, have to say the actual professionally recorded video for this one, done live, had much better sound, but this one was so well loved because poor Mitch had been dragging due to jet lag, and downed two Red Bulls during the break just one song before this one, and when this one started he just went off!. Never seen Mitch so far into the song like this, but at the same time its my favourite for that very reason. It was distorted partially because it was recorded on a phone and because Avi's bass at the beginning wrecked the mic/sound system! And did you enjoy Avi's overtones & sounds thru it? Amazing Performance! Great Reaction! 💖

If you ever wonder what the difference is between a real bass and a baritone singing down to bass with subharmonics it's the frequencies. Most acapella bands with those singers carry their own sound equipment because the venues can't handle it. There is a video of Tim and Avi blowing speakers at different events and both bands used it for dramatic effect. See Kevin's song Natural Disaster by Pentatonix for example or Homefree on a couple of them. There's a very early badly shot fan video of Pentatonix when Avi hits a low A and it messes up the sound system. Scott gets upset and Kevin chases Avi off the stage 🙂

When I saw this come into my feed...I was shocked that you'd do this one...and actually afraid for you. Go rest and recover.
You crack me up sooo much. That pig helmet or pony or whatever it is, is hysterically funny. Your facial reactions are the best. From watching previous reactions, I understand this was filmed on a cell phone, and Avi's bass thingy damaged the speakers/microphone on the device, which is why it sounds distorted.
The ultimate Mitch-slap! He was absolutely on fire that night (legend has it he had chugged several Red Bulls to battle jet lag while on tour). When he crawled to the front of the stage, I'd wager that about a dozen people in the front row wet themselves.
