I love this video. I think one question that you have to ask on the front end is whether your current group structure at your church is focused on community, education, or something else. I think it is important that churches not communicate their groups are focused on one thing, but then structure them to achieve something different.
The virtual communities are another way to connect people together in a non-traditional way.

I so appreciate this video. Small groups are indeed vital to church ministry. In some churches, especially the very large ones, small groups might be the only way for individuals to connect and be part of the larger congregation. However, I also think we cannot restrict ourselves to small groups exclusively in our churches or keep them designed as "holy huddles" and expect the lost or recent converts to join in. We must be "outward" focused. Jesus repeatedly told His followers to "GO."

Get your church involved in supporting or starting a hackerspace...
These are great non-christian community environments that aren't bars.
MeetUp is another great place to check out the rest of the world.

Good presentation of differences in "community". Would like to hear about practical specific ways to change & implement this concept.

I think we can do both small groups, and interact within our city. We have to gather in groups; that's biblical (Hebrews 10:25), just like he gathered to present his message.

It seems that few pastors are willing to embrace the roots of Christianity, trying instead to integrate secular and popular elements in an attempt to enhance their churches. A church is not a building, it's a group of people... Therefore, any space (inside or out) is perfect for worship. The formation of special communities with "leaders" isn't appropriate or necessary (but such things do form profitable enterprises). Small groups, or even single individuals, are perfectly fine! Cheers...

I think the title of this video does not match the message. FYI small groups play a role in church community. It helps with growth and equipping to do the work of ministry everywhere else in daily life. It is difficult living out a faith you know little about. Sunday service does not cut it alone. You need instruction in scripture. Then there is a daily personal devotional. Its about building up to do ministry anywhere and everywhere.

News flash!!! Go and make disciples that's the great commission. Jesus never said to go to church. The word church is ecclesia which means called out ones. You are called to GO OUT and make disciples. Stop playing church people !!!
