    It’s awesome that you can give life to stale and freezer burned foods!

    Thank you for all your videos. I have a freeze dryer from 2017 and the bottom rack does not get hot,

    I think this is a bad idea. The feeeze drier and pump are a closed system. The water has no where to go except into the pump and oil. Possibly causing rust and corrosion. Better to run a fd cycle. It would be a short run anyway.

      That's why I did the math. The moisture in the food is just about the same as the air in the freeze dryer when you shut the door at 28% humidity. The system really isn't closed. The vapor pulled from the chamber is compressed by the vanes in the pump and released into the gas ballast. Any water vapor hits the ballast plate and turns to condensate. some of the moisture will go in with the oil but most is forced up into the oil mist filter and out of the pump.

      Good answer. That is if you have a Premier Pump. As i understand it, it would still possibly cause problems for those running the Standard Pump. Is that right?

      Vacuum pump were made for HVAC work before freeze dryers came into the picture. When a vacuum is pulled on a AC system the pump is dealing with moisture, oils, and other contaminants. The pumps are pretty durable units...even the standard pump.

    I'm thinking about buying a freeze dryer as soon as we have room. I watch a lot of your videos and would like to support your channel. Do you have affiliate links that can be used for you to get a commission when I buy a freeze dryer?

    Can also do this with a dehydrator.

    • @Philat4800feet

      Or the oven, but these two choices will continue to cook the food to remove the moisture.

    If the cones and the crackers are on the same tray, how do you know what was lost?

    • @Philat4800feet
      @Philat4800feet 3 місяці тому

      They were weighed separately before being placed on the trays

    So if I bought several boxes and did this with fresh crackers then sealed with a desiccant pack would the stay fresh for years?

      Add oxygen absorbers too. You need to remove any oxygen to keep any oils from oxidizing (going rancid).

    Do you do the updates on your freeze dryer? I haven’t done an update yet because I’m scared it won’t work correctly? It’s almost 3 yrs old

      I downloaded the newest program but didn't like it, so I reverted back to 5.0.24. I think that's the best so far.

      How good are you with an ohm meter? Is the problem connections or a bad heating pad? If a bad pad I wonder if HR has replacements?

    Interesting, I assume the same would be true for stale breakfast cereal and croutons. Probably not so much for stale "fresh" bread though.

      Not to good for breads or cookies with chocolate chips, figs newtons, and chewy ingredients.

    Anyone ever try to freeze dry yeast?

    • @Philat4800feet
      @Philat4800feet 3 місяці тому

      Dry yeast will freeze dry well. Wet yeast has a high kill rate.
