  • Writer and filmmaker Margaret M. MacDonald is a passionate storyteller; an auteur whose narratives take her audience into other worlds, created and crafted which a vivid density. Her background in visual design has imbued her writing style with unique and beautiful detail. Her landscapes and cities are richly detailed; her human characters, even more so.
Her latest triumph is THE PHOENIX EFFECT Series, a vast romantic adventure that unfolds against her most rapturous futuristic worlds yet. In Part I: The Reuniting, we meet Lia and Arin, two socially and philosophically opposed young people whose destinies are dictated by their love for each other; in Part II: Regenerations, with worlds teetering on the brink of war, the fates of Arin and Lia come into sharp focus.
In 2024, the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival is honoured to have Margaret M. MacDonald on board as a judge in the inaugural Unproduced Screenplay Competition. In the midst of her jury duties, she sat down with festival director Simon Foster to talk about the PHOENIX EFFECT saga, working within the genre space, and the highs and lows of the lonely world of novel writing.
