Ignore the negativity below. I will give you a version of the sausage sweet potatoes that I came up with after seeing yours several months ago. (Nothing healthy but tasty and filling) I use frozen sweet potato bites, frozen corn and a kielbasa sausage cut up. I melt 1 stick butter and mix in 1/2 cup brown sugar and pour it over all the ingredients on a greased cookie sheet. I bake 30 min at 400. Every one at my house loves it! I do most of my shopping at Aldi. The sweet potatoes are $2.20, corn is 0.95, sausage is $3.55. I always have butter and brown sugar on hand but 1 stick of butter is $1.07 and Half cup of brown sugar is 0.24. Grand total is $8.01 for the meal itself.
Another tip: always take the time to double-check the prices each shopping trip. I've gone sometimes and the pre-shredded cheese is on sale and CHEAPER than the block cheeses. I love those days, because I get to spend less time AND money! :)
We LOVE breakfast for dinner!!!!! I can't wait to make the Broccoli soup!!!! And because of YOU and Mandyinthemaking, I am using my instant pot more!!! I LOVE my instant pot!!!! I learned to cook rice and a baked potato in it because of you and Mandy!!!! It is so easy peasy!!!!! Thanks for the inspirations you give us!!!!
I can’t begin to thank you enough for recipes like these. My son is moving clear across the country in 30 days to do a college internship for Disney for the next year. I have been using your recipes to teach him how to cook for himself on his own. We already have the French toast and the sausage and sweet potatoes in the oven right now as we speak. He commented how easy it was to make and he’s looking forward to trying them.
Thanks for this Kristen! I love your ideas and they help remind me of meals I’ve forgotten about. I actually use a lot of your soup ideas. Soup goes a looooong way and a $15-$20 soup lasts for several meals working out to less than $5 a meal.

Thanks for sharing Love the recipe ideas at my walmart I get a 2lb bag of cheddar chesse and mozzarella cheese for 5.34 cents which in my opinion is a good deal for my family cause it last me most of the month for different recipes. I actually have everything on hand to make the cheddar broccoli soup all I need is heavy cream. which I may use half and half :)
I find it easier using one tortilla folded in half , easier to fill easier to flip , sausage & sweet potatoes we add red peppers, onions and I add salsas to it once it’s cooked ( we call it hash) and you can put a fried egg on top👨🍳👏♥️🇨🇦
I just want to say that I look forward to the "weekly" recipes in my email! I have not made one yet that I did not like. There are only 2 of us so each one feeds us more than once.😊, love my freezer. The $5 soups were great! Need more summer ideas😊. So, thank you for what you are doing!
I added broccoli soup to my have to make every 2 weeks meal plan. I make it a little different, i use fresh broccoli, fresh carrots and half and half, nutmeg, flour, onion, olive oil. Broccoli and carrots are so super cheap and they do make a great meal. I just cook it on the stove and it takes about 15 minutes with cutting, i usually serve it with a small side salad and in a bread bowl. So delicious! I love doing breakfast for dinner, one of my favs! Must have that is super cheap is grits. Spaghetti is always on the menu here LOL so simple and cheap and easy to make, we add hamburger, onions, bell peppers (if we have them), then just toast some bread and spread garlic butter over it.
Morning, Kristen! I already made comments on this video five days ago but I would like to update with another one…I love, love the sweet potatoes with kielbasa…I made it last night and omg it was delicious!! I had forgotten how good sweet potatoes are cooked this way since I usually cook them whole in the microwave or like a Thanksgiving side dish we all love with brown sugar and marshmallows …BUT for your pricing, I will be making three meals out of that five-ish dollars…last night was one way; this morning with using the kielbasa in my fried rice, again, yummy, and will eat the leftovers again tonight! Yes, I’m only one person but what the hey, it tripled worked!!! (For all you single watchers out there)…🥰🥰

I have leftover buttermilk mashed potatoes and everything else I need to make soup AND a sausage in the freezer and a sweet potato in the crock. Meals for 4 nights done. Thank you.
Hi there, hey regarding knives for your kitchen...I highly recommend Cutco knives. They are expensive but a few really good knives make the biggest difference when prepping food. Its so much fun working with a good knife!
Oh, I've started earning the Pampered Chef knife collection. They have two lines, both are great. Because of how much cooking you do, you may want to look at the German-steel line. Very sturdy. I think a lifetime guarantee. And you can buy them as individuals if you don't want the whole set. I do a ton with just the Santoku.
OMG look at those prices! The french bread would be $3 the milk $3, eggs, $3 and that frosting sits around $4. Ground turkey, we call Turkey mince 500g $8. Cheese for that size $6.The sausage would be around $6. This is a good concept, but if you live in Queensland Australia it will be a bit more exy😊 You have inspired me to see how much these would cost me and I do believe it would help with our ridiculous high priced groceries.
I buy Rada knives because my son's marching band sells them as a fundraiser. If you can find a school in your area that has Rada fundraisers, it's a great way to help the school and upgrade your knives. My tip is to buy them one at a time, to spread the cost out a little bit. I had a knife block with bad knives, and I've been replacing them piece by piece. LOL Great and timely video, fyi! :)
Misen has some great knives!!! Several influencers recommend them and I was skeptical but they are really good!!! You can even ship them your knives and they will sharpen for free…just pay the shipping.
I subscribe to this channel and don't expect to read the comments and see one old vulgar woman constantly commenting negative comments here. I so wish you had somehow blocked her at the beginning. Way too many stressers in the past 2 years. This channel has given me some great recipes and money saving ideas which I appreciate. I don't care if the $5 recipe is a $10 recipe, because of the different stores and places, I know its still a good deal. Keep up the good work Kristen, I for one am looking forward to the next video!!!
You are very welcome. We understand that prices vary, but it's still way cheaper and will help those with tight budgets! (NO matter where your live) Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comment.
I love love love ALL your recipes and have tried many of them and I have one of your cookbooks.....but I agree with one of your followers NO MUSIC please...... thank you
I praise the kind hearts that share positive life outlooks. I seek them out. It's is confusing to read such poison comments when you try to join in. Feel free to put yourself out there. You get to work and create the idea, do the work ness, Doing the work she is. A mouth spurring poisoning .... it will come back and strike you back. There is KARMA. Whether you believe that or not.
I just went out and splurged you’re away all my old knives and went to a company called Misen. I bought the whole set of knives as a package deal I well their set of shears and I said I’m cooking tools. I love their products and also bought the 10 inch frying pan 🍳 The knives are guaranteed for life and you can send them back to the company and they will sharpen them for you. If you love to cook there’s nothing like having the proper tools and this company has everything As I said it’s a little pricey but in the long run it’s worth it
Your lucky Utah isn't in Canada Kristen..lol. The prices are comparable...if it was 10 years ago!. Who buys burger buns for .93¢?. $3.79 where I shop. I apologize for venting a little here I realize your video is just an example of what you could do with little money. I think the video was excellent and I'm dying to make some of the recipies. I always love sloppy Joe's.
First, she did say your cost could vary depending on location. Second, Canadian currency isn’t valued the same. $5 USD is about $6.50 CDN. Third, prices do vary widely even in the States from place to place. Fourth, prices are rising very quickly and I have a feeling they have risen some since she taped this. She’s obviously still pregnant in the video and the baby is now a couple of years old. I can tell you that the same exact sausage at the same store chain but in my town is exactly $1 more than her price was. I’m assuming that’s due to a combo of location and time. Fifth, and lastly, if you choose not to buy the inexpensive burger buns, how would that be Kristin’s fault? She simply promised to show some ways that a family COULD eat dinner for around $5. If you choose to change ingredients, then that’s on you. If you were truly needing to stick to the $5 mark, then I guarantee the answer to your question of “Who buys burger buns for $0.93?” would be found in your mirror. ETA: I made a typo - meant to say the baby is a couple of MONTHS old, not years! And I misspoke when I said she was pregnant when making the video. There are portions of other videos cut in (why remake footage when you have some? Smart!) where she was pregnant and I did forget that the baby is in the cart at the beginning. Before the video begins showing her choosing items and their prices which are current for where she lives. The rest of my comment stands.
Hopefully it's still beats the price of eating out. Just trying to help those with our rising food prices. Best of luck to you in Canada. We all need each other and hoping you are doing well!
@@Lucinda_Jackson she is NOT pregnant in this video and the baby is not a couple years old! If you watch the video you will see the baby in her infant 👶 seat in the Walmart cart 🛒!!
@@kellymcfalls1458 I did watch the video. Yep, I saw that, but it didn’t stick with me. What did stick were the parts of the video where she was clearly still pregnant (example: 6:32 and 6:10) but I forgot that for videos like this she sometimes reuses footage from older episodes. No sense reinventing the wheel, after all, and the pricing info is actually current. And I meant to type MONTHS not years! LOL I stand corrected on that part. But the main points still stand. All the people attacking her for this were being ridiculous, especially when she showed the prices in the store.
Forget the man Manwich katsup, brown sugar and mustard added to browned, drained ground beef. Ta da! SLOPPY JOES. If you want fancier add onions and bell pepper while cooking the meat
Wow, Kristen clearly stated that these prices are representative of her area’s grocery stores. As adults, we are able to price out ingredients in our own stores. Please be kind to one another.

Misen has some great knives!!! Several influencers recommend them and I was skeptical but they are really good!!! You can even ship them your knives and they will sharpen for free…just pay the shipping.
A lot of recommended Misen! Thanks.
On Canada's west coast a dozen eggs are anywhere from 7-10 dollars. 2 Litres of milk is about 4 dollars...etc.
Oh yes and that store bought icing is about 4 dollars.
Thanks so much
Any time!!
Thank you for the $5 dinner ideas 💡!
You are welcome. Hope it helps with these rising prices.
Rada knives are very good.
Great meals!
It was!
can i download shopping list
I really like Brinner! These are great recipes, makes me hungry! Thanks so much. (Really don’t need the music, sorry)
It is the best invention, I am convinced!
I love love love ALL your recipes and have tried many of them and I have one of your cookbooks.....but I agree with one of your followers NO MUSIC please...... thank you
Use sweet onions they don’t make your eyes water and taste so good
Could use a can of beans and one half lb of meat for your sloppy joes. That helps stretch things.
Well, I am glad you deleted the poisonous comments!!! I so enjoy comments...and your videos!!
@@carolconklin2346 I reported them...
Mercer makes some good knives that won't break the budget. The key to knives - hand wash. Just buy open stock the knives you use on a regular basis.
Also never use the blade to scrape stuff off of a plate. Use the back of the knife.
Mhm! And bench scrapers are *fantastic* tools.
I am so jealous with those prices. Im canadian so each item is pretty much tripled :'(
Mind BLOWN on the peeler hack🤣
Right?!
Mandy in the making uses a fancy knife.
Oooo I think I need that peeler!!! Where is it from?
Pampered chef for good knife
I just went out and splurged you’re away all my old knives and went to a company called Misen. I bought the whole set of knives as a package deal I well their set of shears and I said I’m cooking tools. I love their products and also bought the 10 inch frying pan 🍳
The knives are guaranteed for life and you can send them back to the company and they will sharpen them for you. If you love to cook there’s nothing like having the proper tools and this company has everything
As I said it’s a little pricey but in the long run it’s worth it
If I were investing in a new set of knives, Misen would definitely be my choice!
Lovvvvvvvveeeeeee
Wow! Teenbeat!
Ground sausage is very good with mashed sweet potatoes. Maybe a little cheaper too.
Cutco has great knives. NEVER needs sharpening ever.
Do you have a cook book?
Yes! We have 9!
She did say that the prices may not be the same...she does not control the prices make it work for you not against you
First, she did say your cost could vary depending on location.

I did watch the video.
Great ideas sweetheart thanks for sharing! Best wishes and please stay safe, healthy and happy ❤ 😊 😃 👍🌹❤🇭🇲🦘🙏
Thanks so much!
Hey there, I just made the broccoli cheddar soup its too watery, I used the whipping cream, how do I thicken it up without ruining this recipe?
A cornstarch slurry or potato flakes would both work
@@tinablair2206 Thank you.
Forget the man Manwich katsup, brown sugar and mustard added to browned, drained ground beef. Ta da! SLOPPY JOES. If you want fancier add onions and bell pepper while cooking the meat
