Poet: Deen Khyapa | Performer: Biswanath Das Baul
Biswanath Das Baul was born in 1959 at Jagabandhu Ashram, Khayaer Bani, Bankura. He is the son and disciple of Shri Sanatan Das Baul (from Bankura District, who followed the style of legendary Baul Singer-Practitioner Shri Nitai Khyapa) and Meera Ma. He received his Bairagya Diksha from Sri Manohar Khyapa Baba. He accompanied his father to many spiritual gatherings and festivals from an early age. In 1985, he went to France to sing in the India Festival with his father, on invitation from the Government of India. Since then he has performed in many festivals and spiritual gatherings, in India and abroad. He looks after the Guru ashram and keeps the traditional life style inherited from his father. He accompanies himself with the instruments ektara, duggi, anandalahari, dotara and nupur.
In this video, he sings the poem 'Hridoyo Pinjore Boshe' (Sitting in the cage of my heart) by the poet Deen Khyapa. This is a pure devotional song belonging to the Group of songs titled Mono Shikha, which could be translated as Conversation with the Self. He is accompanied by Lokhon Das Baul on the dotara and Nitai Das on the dubki. This song was performed during an evening session during the Baul Gyan Darpan 2015, organised by Ekathara Kalari in collaboration with Aurodhan Art Gallery, Pondicherry.
