How did you clean and prepare the gourd? I have one that I grew several years ago. Its dusty and has been sitting in the carport all this time. It fell and broken open but looks ready to become a small bird house. Assuming I should prime it first for outdoors use right? Then paint it a pretty color using... acrylics? I have plenty of acrylics on hand. Thank you.
Robin McBride I have a video on how to clean gourds. I don’t prime mine usually because I don’t put them outside. You’ll have to look up how to treat gourds that are going to be in the weather.
I don’t recommend putting a painted gourd outside. Also, if a gourd is painted before it’s fully cured, the paint will get pushed off the gourd while the drying process continues. I have never used Thompson’s Water Sealer on any of my projects so I can’t recommend that product.
I am sorry that happened to you. I painted a gourd that wasn’t completely dried during my earlier years of painting and the paint bubbled off the gourd and wrinkled up.
Thank you. Enjoyed watching. I have some ridged gourds that I wanted to paint. I was just going to paint them, not do drawings, because ty r not smooth.
What a cool idea to use the end of brush or pencil or skewer to create designs, I was using sponges, which wasn't consistent. Your teaching skills are wonderful!!! I am the type of student that needs to understand why I should do something and IF I do, how to fix my mistake. I grew my gourds last year, gave them the winter to dry out. I am NOT a painter, so I purchased stencils in hopes that they'd work, they don't work. But the designs I made with the sponges were better than expected, but still stink. I'm so happy to find your channel with your creative ideas perhaps I can make something nice. I did realize by spray painting the gourds first gave me a canvas for design ideas. God Bless!
I’m so glad I was able to help you. One thing you should remember is, when you dry your own gourds is if the gourd feels cool to the touch even if it’s very light, it is not dry yet and if you paint a cool gourd all of the paint will ripple up and fall off the gourd while it continues to dry..
kiss lips don't look like lips to me?
That's cool 👍 I like to leave them natural and Woodburn designs on them 👍
A lot of people like to do that. I have never burned a gourd though.
Thanks for step by step instructions.
Amazing work ❤❤❤
Ellerinize sağlık çok güzel yapıyorsunuz keşke anlattıklarınızıda anlaya bilseydim 😔

Thank you! You do beautiful work!
Thank you! That was very helpful!
Can I use water color to paint the gourds?
You can try but gourds are not porous like paper so the paint might run right off.
Thanks for sharing!
